“reliable 3D design value”
Pros
Since 2015, Alibre has been a dependable program for my work and it consistently performs well. The permanent license makes it an excellent value and on the rare occasions I've needed help, customer support has been very responsive. I use it for 3D design across in-house machining, outsourced machine work, 3D printing and machine design assemblies.
Cons
Honestly I don't have any major complaints about Alibre. It simply does its job reliably and hasn't caused me any trouble.

“Competitive pricing and smooth updates”
Pros
The pricing is very competitive which was a big plus. Coming from other CAD software, moving over to Alibre felt pretty simple and didn't take much adjustment. Updates install without any hassle and the maintenance package has been worth paying for especially since it's also priced competitively.
Cons
We've been using the system for more than three years now and overall it has performed almost flawlessly. Every now and then it will lock up, probably only two or three times a month at most but a quick restart takes care of it. Other than that, it's been very solid.

“powerful value for 3d design”
Pros
Switching over from AutoCAD and Pro E was surprisingly quick and Alibre Design has been very user-friendly for both 3D modeling and drafting. The pricing is excellent, with options that fit different budgets and needs without sacrificing capability. Customer support has also been outstanding and the learning curve was fast enough that I was productive early on. I've been using it since 2014 for mechanical design, product development and even creating fly-through venue models for a music charity. For the price, it delivers far more capability than you'd expect.
Cons
Honestly I have no real complaints. It does exactly what I need it to do and I haven't run into anything worth criticizing.

“Perpetual license done right”
Pros
After 30 years of using AutoCAD and Inventor, I got tired of watching the price climb year after year especially when some updates barely felt worth the increase. Once the subscription model showed up, that was it for me. I started searching for a CAD program with a perpetual license, came across Alibre Expert Design and decided to give it a shot. The learning curve was fairly short and before long I felt comfortable working in it. The tech support has been outstanding. They respond fast and consistently fix whatever issue comes up. I've even received replies over holiday weekends which is the kind of service I never got from Autodesk. Another big plus is the PDM document manager which has worked very well for me.
Cons
One thing I do miss is the built-in parts library that Autodesk Inventor included out of the box. Every now and then I also run into a constraint that won't behave the way I expect although that usually comes down to user error on my end. Other than that, I really don't have much of a con list.

“fantastic mechanical design package”
Pros
Alibre stands out as one of the best mechanical design packages I've used. The usability, feature set and overall value really feel hard to beat. I still work in other CAD programs too but whenever I have the option, Alibre is the one I choose.
Cons
A couple of additions would make it even better. Mesh editing tools for working with scan data directly in a design file would be really useful and I'd also love to see an integrated CAM plugin like Visualmill built into Alibre.

“excellent value with solid PDM”
Pros
This software packs a lot of capability into a package that feels very competitively priced. Adding PDM gave me one central place to keep all of my design files and part libraries which has been really useful. I also appreciate the ongoing development, with new features and bug fixes continuing to come through as part of an annual maintenance plan that still feels like good value. Meshcam Pro for Alibre gives me an entry-level CAM option that fits my hobby workshop well without being overly expensive. Being able to import PCB STEP files from my PCB design software lets me check fit and interface properly with the mechanical design and the option to color components now makes those models look even more realistic. It's also very helpful that I can create 2D assembly drawings and store them alongside the 3D design files in the PDM.
Cons
Every now and then integrated add-on packages get discontinued or stop working with newer versions which happened before with the integrated CAM package. That did make me hesitant about buying Meshcam Pro for Alibre although it has continued to work with the latest releases.

“Refreshing ownership-first CAD”
Pros
This software is built with users in mind. The pricing covers different budgets, the upgrade paths are user-friendly and it includes almost all the tools you'd expect from the bigger competitors which makes it an obvious choice. It's simple to use, keeps your data out of the cloud and doesn't feed your files into AI training. At a time when subscriptions, online-only platforms, mandatory cloud storage and machine-learning tie-ins are wearing everyone out, Alibre feels like a real breath of fresh air.
Cons
At the moment it's only available on Windows though that sounds temporary. With v29, Alibre plans to remove its Windows dependencies and start looking at support for other operating systems down the road.

“affordable full-featured 3d design”
Pros
Having a perpetual license, a reasonable price and a full set of features makes Alibre Design a really solid option. Creating drawings, extruding parts and building fully functional 3D designs feels very simple.
Cons
usually I run into glitches with radii or chamfers. I can usually get them to work the way I want but most of the time I have to handle them one at a time. The automatically generated threads also don't seem to function quite right.

“customizable purchase model”
Pros
One thing I really appreciate is that it's a one-time software purchase instead of a subscription. It's also highly customizable and most functions can be assigned to whatever buttons or keys work best for you.
Cons
A downside is that STEP/STL files can't be opened for modification directly so I have to use other software to convert them into a file type that works.

“Great 3D modeling workflow”
Pros
After more than 10 years using Alibre, I still really appreciate how capable it is and how simple the interface feels. I rely heavily on the 3D modeling and assembly tools and they help me design and engineer faster and with better accuracy than some other CAD software I've used.
Cons
At times the motion settings in assemblies can get corrupted or disconnected fairly easily which means I have to either rebuild the assembly from scratch or spend a lot of time troubleshooting and fixing the problem.

“Enjoyable program to own”
Pros
Coming at this as a hobbyist, I got into it because I have a 3D printer and didn't want to keep depending on other people to make the things I needed. I also really dislike subscription-based software. 3D Atom gives me a program that's enjoyable to use and I actually own my copy which matters a lot to me. The overall process makes sense in my head and the workflow feels natural to work with.
Cons
My only real complaint is with the tutorials I've been able to find. I could really use more detailed walkthroughs and clearer demonstrations of how to use certain features. It's a little hard for me to follow them at times. That said I can still piece together what's being shown and overall I'm still very happy with the product.

“versatile design tool”
Pros
I expected a steep learning curve but Alibre has been surprisingly simple to pick up. We use it every day for general mechanical design, 2D workshop drawings and a growing amount of 3D printing work and it handles all of it without issue. For a small design and manufacturing business, keeping costs under control matters a lot and the licensing options fit that need really well. There are also plenty of helpful how-to videos on YouTube and other places so it's rare to get stuck not knowing how to do something.
Cons
Honestly there's very little to complain about. The only part that gave me trouble was setting up defaults like dimension styles and millimetres and getting those settings to stay in place between drawing sessions.

“Fair pricing and perpetual value”
Pros
Switching over from SolidWorks which I use at work, felt pretty natural because Alibre Design was simple to pick up. The pricing and licensing are especially appealing and out of all the 3D CAD options I considered, it delivered the best value for my hobby projects and small business work. I originally bought Alibre Atom and after using it for a year, I was happy enough with it to move up to Alibre Design Pro. The upgrade was handled very fairly too since I only paid the price difference between Atom and Pro which basically gave me credit for my earlier purchase. The perpetual license is another big plus and I also appreciate that the service update subscription is optional since that keeps ongoing costs under control. All in all, Alibre Design Pro has been a very capable and practical 3D design tool.
Cons
There are still a few minor quirks here and there which is pretty normal for software and I've also had a couple of rare crashes back to the desktop. That said support was quick to respond when I reported a repeatable bug in the Loft dialog. The only downside was that it took some time and several back-and-forth emails before they were able to reproduce the issue on their side. From what I understand, the fix is expected in the next service release. One thing I'd really like to see is some kind of "Finder's Fee" for users who report reproducible bugs. Something like a free year of service updates for each confirmed bug would be a smart incentive and could help Alibre improve the product by encouraging more detailed user feedback.

“flexible exports and quick learning”
Pros
starting was pretty simple and there's always help available when I need it. It matches my needs completely and gives me several file export options which has been really useful. I'd still love to have DXF export included but considering the price point, I understand you can't expect absolutely everything.
Cons
A few of the instructional videos move a bit too quickly and don't explain things in enough depth. It took me quite a while and multiple replays, before I fully understood how to apply constraints.

One thing I really appreciate is that this software is simple and doesn't lock you into a subscription. It's one of the few tools you actually own and it handles pretty much everything you need.
Cons

“Excellent value for model design”
Pros
As a hobbyist I think it delivers outstanding value for the cost. I don't use it every day or depend on it for my income but I do use it to design and build fairly complex models of historically important engines. It gives me the advanced tools I need, while still having a workflow that doesn't force me to relearn a bunch of complicated steps if I haven't opened the software in a while.
Cons
One feature I really appreciate is being able to design my models and then simulate the mechanics to check clearances for crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons and other moving parts. That part is extremely useful. The limitation shows up when assemblies become heavily layered with sub-assemblies because Alibre no longer lets the parts inside those deeper sub-assemblies move the way they should which makes clearance checking more restricted.

“hidden gem with flexible pricing”
Pros
Right from the start, installing it on my machine was simple and the setup process didn't take much effort. The getting-started tutorials are really helpful especially if you're new to 3D modeling. I also appreciate the pricing options: you can go with a subscription or make a one-time purchase and then pay for upgrades only when you need them. Another big plus is that I was able to create my own plugin and connect it closely with Orca Slicer for 3D printing. On top of that, customer support has been fantastic and very quick to respond whenever I've contacted them.
Cons
There honestly isn't much to complain about. It does crash occasionally when I'm adding fillets to a large number of edges and faces but it usually gets back up and running pretty fast. I also wish the user community were larger or that the software was more widely known because it really feels like a hidden gem. It would also be nice if they offered a 2D parametric-only version although for simpler needs I can still get by with a basic sketch.

“Fantastic value and quick learning”
Pros
A few things really make Alibre stand out as a solid option. First you buy the license outright instead of being locked into a monthly or yearly subscription. Another big plus is that the license can be moved between computers so I can use it on my home machine, switch it to my laptop when I travel and then move it back again when I get home. Most importantly, Alibre was very quick to learn. It didn't take long before I was creating models and 3D printing them. The tutorials are excellent and include very helpful examples.
Cons
A more advanced user could probably point out some limitations but for what I need, I haven't run into anything I wasn't able to accomplish.

“Modeling at a fair price”
Pros
Considering the price, this software delivers a seriously impressive amount of power. We rely on it for solid model design and it's also very useful for pulling the X/Y coordinates we need when creating CNC machining programs.
Cons
The built-in and online help system feels too inflexible and tracking down answers to specific problems can take a lot of trial and error along with wasted time. Email support is helpful but it isn't immediate which becomes frustrating when someone is stuck and needs a real-time solution before they can continue working.
