5.0

safety integration

Pros

Having everything integrated in one application really helps accelerate functional safety work. It also makes linking safety analyses with requirements created in DOORS very simple.

Cons

It tends to consume a lot of system memory and can freeze quite often. On top of that, it offers fewer user-friendly options compared with other similar applications.

4.0

Strong safety coverage

Pros

It handles most of the safety activities well and when a change is made in one activity, it can carry through to other related levels and activities too.

Cons

The tool uses a lot of memory and freezes quite often. It also feels less user-friendly compared with the classic analysis tools we've used especially for FMEA/FMEDA work where even basic copy-paste support is missing.

3.0

functional safety in one model

Pros

Medini keeps everything coherently organized within a single model which makes the overall workflow much more manageable. The tool itself is relatively simple to use. That said creating templates to adapt it to our existing process is very difficult and honestly feels nearly impossible without expert support from Ansys. At the moment we also can't really integrate Medini with our other tools except through MS Excel or MS Word export/import and that approach is difficult and quite error-prone.

Cons

Its SysML capabilities are limited when it comes to modeling systems/items and Functional Safety work products in Medini.

Simple icons but limited selection

Pros

Getting started with this software is fairly simple. The icons are clean and simple so even first-time users can understand how things work pretty quickly without much confusion.

Cons

Creating components in the "structure" tab can be difficult. It also feels less useful when I need to select multiple items since I can't choose several components at once with ctrl+shift or by dragging.

4.0

strong traceability across safety stages

Pros

It does a really good job of connecting system architecture and requirements with the safety analyses while keeping clear traceability across the different safety stages.

Cons

The Help feature could definitely use some improvement since searching through it is currently a bit difficult.

Better template customization

Pros

The updated template customization features are a real plus and make the software more flexible to work with.

Cons

It would be much more useful if the parallel workflow were simpler.. for example, being able to view results in real time instead of creating a separate version and merging everything at the end.

helpful onboarding and reliable safety work

Pros

Right after we purchased it, the Ansys team provided a really solid introduction to the tool which made a big difference at the beginning since our team was completely new to it.

Cons

We're currently using the tool for functional safety activities and it has been performing well for that purpose.

Clear reports and shared visibility

Pros

The reporting is very clear so it's much easier to understand the outcomes. It also helps other teams and functions see the contributions and results without much confusion.

Cons

A lighter version would be useful to save time during modeling. It would also be helpful if library development were included.

5.0

powerful reporting and extensibility

Pros

One of the biggest strengths of medini is how flexible it is. Extending the metamodel and improving the modeling workflow with custom scripts is very simple which makes it simple to adapt the tool to almost any safety or security analysis process. The reporting side is also excellent. Its BIRT integration is fantastic and being able to generate reports automatically from start to finish and export them in multiple formats removes a lot of manual effort from the team. The community is another strong point especially the scripting and reporting forums which are very helpful when you want to get more value out of Medini. On top of that, the integration with external tools like SCADE Architect and Simulink makes collaboration between system architects and safety or security engineers much more smooth.

Cons

sometimes it can be difficult to find enough examples for scripting and reporting. More complete documentation in these areas would definitely help especially when it comes to scripted data sources in reporting. That said this is only a small drawback because the support available in the Medini forums is excellent. Still, having that extra documentation would be a welcome improvement.

Accurate fmeda analysis

Pros

The FMEDA sheet works really well for FIT value analysis and has been very useful for this part of the process.

Cons

Support for Java scripts still needs improvement and the document generation could also be better refined.

Outstanding traceability and FTA

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is the traceability feature.. it's excellent, very user-friendly and simple to follow. The FTA functionality is also outstanding and makes organizing, rearranging and updating things much more manageable.

Cons

A shared server setup would make a big difference especially if everyone with access could add comments and make updates in one common place. That way, the full process could be tracked in a single version instead of being scattered across multiple ones. Another frustration is the lack of a convenient sharing option. Right now, work and updates have to be shared by generating an *.mprx file which makes it hard to keep track of which file actually contains the most recent version.

dated interface

Pros

Classes, tutorials and example materials available through the portal are something I really appreciate. They've been useful for learning the product and understanding how to work with it.

Cons

Interface feels pretty old and outdated. I also wish the icons had text labels turned on by default because it's not obvious for new users that they need to enable those themselves.

Buggy overall

Pros

One thing I appreciate is that it integrates with SCADE Architect which is really useful in the workflow. The support service has also been very good and responsive whenever help was needed.

Cons

The software can be quite buggy which affects day-to-day use. Customization also depends heavily on having strong scripting skills so it can be difficult if you are not comfortable with that.

strong traceability and timely support

Pros

High level of traceability between safety artifacts is a huge advantage. Having everything in a single tool is really convenient and the Git integration makes concurrent work much more manageable. Support has also been reliable and responsive whenever needed.

Cons

To get more flexibility and better automation out of the tool, scripting is still necessary. There are also occasional bugs that show up from time to time and the reporting features could definitely use some improvement.

Helpful safety workflow integration

Pros

Having safety analyses connected easily with requirements created in DOORS is one of the strongest parts of this program. It's also very convenient for companies to keep FTA, FMECA, hazard log, safety plan and similar folders together on the same platform.

Cons

We initially expected it to be directly integrated with the fault tree+ program but the process ended up taking much longer than we had anticipated. One thing that could really help is a library built around the EN 5012X standards used in rail systems which would likely speed up adoption of the program in that sector.
