codespaces anytime without hassle

Pros

The best part for me is being able to jump into Codespaces whenever I want without running into any trouble at all.

Cons

Honestly... I haven't come across any downsides yet. It has been strong and very useful overall.

had a great experience

Pros

For me, it regularly stands out to me for its strong version control, collaboration tools and the way it serves as a central place for software development. The integration with Git feels smooth, the code review features work well and the community side of the platform is another big plus.

Cons

I already covered most of it above since I really haven't had many negative experiences with the platform.

github for open source collaboration

Pros

Getting started with it is fairly simple because it's the most widely used version control platform and there's a huge amount of content available online. Most open-source projects are hosted there which makes it a natural place to explore, learn and contribute. It's also completely free so anyone can start using it without any barrier specially for open-source contributions.

Cons

One thing that can be confusing for new users is the shift in authentication since commits now rely on tokens instead of passwords. It also feels a bit lightly regulated at times which means it can potentially be misused for the wrong purposes. Also, Github Actions for CI/CD still needs improvement and the more complex YAML syntax can make it harder to work with.

dependable tool

Pros

Coming into it as a complete non-programmer, I was still able to dig into the platform and start figuring out how to share projects and make my own contributions, even as a beginner. I originally began just experimenting with it for personal use and through research plus some trial and error, I realized it has useful tools that can also support my volunteer work and my volunteer team.

Cons

Because it seems relatively unknown outside programming circles, it initially felt intimidating and not very approachable. That may partly be a branding issue. I also felt that while a lot of it is user-friendly, certain parts clearly assume some prior knowledge which can make things challenging at times for someone without a programming background.

helpful for developers

Pros

Working as a developer, it gives me a clear picture of what I want to achieve. Sometimes it even provides exactly what I'm looking for and overall it has been really valuable.

Cons

Getting started with it can feel tiring and not very welcoming. It seems to attract new users but the platform still feels like it favors people who have been using it for a long time. The UI is not very adaptive, the design feels bland and it doesn't fully live up to expectations.

handy code access anywhere

Pros

Uploading repositories through it works really well, giving developers a convenient way to store, manage and access their code from anywhere.

Cons

One downside is that it charges users for private repositories.

Easy to handle

Pros

It lets you create, save, edit, merge and collaborate on files or code which makes teamwork and version handling really convenient.

Cons

There can be bugs and unexpected errors at times and the free plans come with limited security features.

Impressive version control and UI

Pros

This tool is excellent for version control and its user interface feels clean and practical to work with too. I also really appreciate the variable environment support which adds to the overall usefulness of the platform.

Cons

The only thing I'd like to see improved is the paid version pricing since it could be a bit more affordable.

We liked it

Pros

It is one of the best platforms to use for software development in IT. It also has a very strong community where users can share solutions and help each other out.

Cons

A con is that many users are not very responsive. It would be much better if people took more responsibility for replying to the requests they receive.

reliable backups with ample storage

Pros

There's plenty of storage for all of my projects and going back to older versions is fairly simple when I need to recover something.

Cons

What frustrates me is the merge errors that keep happening when I try to push a new update from Unity projects. When that happens, the project can get corrupted and I end up having to download an earlier backup and redo the work all over again.

Had a positive experience

Pros

Among the cloud repositories I've used, this one feels much more organized. It's also very secure for handling Git workflows in a production environment specially when compared with other repositories on the market.

Cons

Honestly I haven't run into any real downsides. I moved over after trying several other vendors and this is the one I ended up sticking with.

A practical tool

Pros

Having access to our company's codebase along with the internal context behind bugs and the Github issues currently in progress has been really helpful.

Cons

I haven't used it often enough yet to come across anything I dislike.

open-source access is fantastic

Pros

One thing I really enjoyed is that I can pretty much get anything that's open source without any hassle.

Cons

The part that needs work is the guidance. When I was trying to deploy a website on Github.io, the instructions felt way too short and hard to follow, to the point where I would have needed someone else to explain them. I'd also love to see support for deploying dynamic projects on Github.io in the future since I use React and cant publish that kind of project there right now.

Commendable collaboration tools

Pros

It really helps teams collaborate without getting in each other's way. Working on projects at the same time feels organized and features like version control, branching and pull requests make the whole development process more efficient.

Cons

Getting started can be a bit challenging for newcomers specially if they're not already familiar with version control. There are a lot of features to take in at first and some of the more advanced tools definitely take time to learn.

Great tool

Pros

Github Desktop has made pushing new versions really simple and the whole platform does exactly what I need it to do. It keeps things simple enough that even someone who isn't very technical can understand how it works. I used to be on a competing product but I ended up choosing it and have stuck with it for the past five years without any reason to move away.

Cons

One annoyance is that it doesn't seem to understand its users very well since the Dashboard keeps showing me content that feels irrelevant.

Free and great

Pros

A big plus is the community, the repository management and the fact that products are readily available, even for free.

Cons

Wasn't really designed as a platform for general users although I wouldn't consider that a real flaw.

Awesome results

Pros

It makes team development much more organized by bringing version control, collaboration and code review into one place. It allows several contributors to work on the same project at the same time which helps the development process stay efficient and well coordinated.

Cons

One downside is how much it depends on having an internet connection. Even though Git can still be used offline some Github-specific features and workflows become limited when you're not connected.
