“Deceptive billing on a closed account”

Pros

To be very honest I don't have anything positive to say about this company.

Cons

They kept withdrawing processing fees even after we closed the account. When we contacted them they claimed it had never been closed. We had already shut that account down and opened a new one because the original one would not support gift cards. They also confirmed that no credit cards had been processed on that account yet they still continued taking money directly from our bank account. When I spoke with their team I explained that we had not received a single statement for this account in years. They said they could only provide the last 12 months and again assured me the account was closed. I asked for written documentation of that by email. I was then told they would review everything and let me know about reimbursement since no credit card transactions had been processed at all. Then on July 24 I received a collections letter dated July 16 2026 saying we had been sent to collections for $329.95 and that it was due immediately. I called collections and the person I spoke with said the account had not been closed, that he would close it and then transfer me to someone else so I could find out why I received the letter and why I had not heard anything about the review. While talking with this new person and confirming the merchant ID, I was told again that the account was not closed. I told him it absolutely had been closed twice already. He asked who I had spoken with and I told him. Then he asked whether I had a letter. As soon as I said I had the letter he suddenly changed his position and said the account was closed. After that yet another member on the team told me the account was closed and had finally been closed on June 1 2026. I asked why we were being sent to collections in July and beyond that, why they were charging processing fees on an account that had already been closed. They eventually came back on the phone and told me to disregard it because we supposedly did not owe anything. This felt extremely sketchy from start to finish. Please do your research before using this company. I would give 0 stars if I could.

“steep hidden fees”

Pros

Absolutely terrible experience.

Cons

Be very careful with this company. Check every statement closely because they often add unauthorized charges including things like a $499 infrastructure update fee. There are also other charges such as a $200 monthly fee if you do not complete their 5 question survey about protecting credit card holder information. Whenever I tried to get help, they just sent me in circles with no real resolution. They claimed I could dispute the charges and receive a refund but that never actually happens. And if you sign a contract, cancelling comes with another $499 fee. Very unhappy with this company.

“refunds only offered in exchange for a longer contract!”

Pros

Negative experience.

Cons

They failed to set up our charging platform properly even after we contacted them multiple times about the problem. Then they charged us $650 without any notice, explanation or warning. We had to push the dispute even further just to get attention. After that we were told everything had been fixed but none of it was actually corrected and they are still billing us for errors they made themselves. To make it worse they said we might only get a partial refund if we agreed to a longer contract. That feels like outright theft from customers. This company has no integrity at all. BEWARE!

“Surprise fees with no prior notice”

Pros

I don't have anything positive to share about it.

Cons

Avoid Global Payments. I only ended up with them because my previous payment processor was bought out, not because I chose them myself. If I had been shopping around on my own, what I've dealt with here would have made me go in a different direction immediately. After the transition, the experience has been full of surprise fees, weak communication and a major drop in customer service. I was billed PCI compliance fees without any notice that they were coming or any explanation of what I needed to do to prevent them. On top of that, I was hit with an Infrastructure Fee of around $700 that was never disclosed ahead of time. Charges like that are completely unacceptable and make it very hard to trust this company's billing practices. The chargeback process is also much more difficult than it should be. Rather than letting merchants handle disputes online, Global Payments makes customers call a chargeback department that is only open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Since chargebacks come with strict deadlines, limiting support to basic business hours creates unnecessary obstacles for businesses trying to respond on time. More than anything, the lack of transparency is what bothers me. Businesses should not be finding major fees only after they show up on a statement and time-sensitive issues should not depend on waiting for limited phone support. Compared with the processor I originally signed up with before the acquisition, this has meant higher costs, worse service and much less transparency. If you're considering payment processors, I strongly suggest comparing other options before choosing Global Payments. Read the full merchant agreement carefully, ask directly about Infrastructure Fees, PCI compliance charges and chargeback procedures and make sure every fee is confirmed in writing. Based on what I've experienced, I cannot recommend Global Payments. I'm planning to take my complaint to my state's Attorney General office and the FTC because this feels like companies are being taken advantage of. Please be aware.

“An obvious cash grab”

Pros

There was nothing good about my experience.

Cons

Out of nowhere the company hit my account with a $499 infrastructure fee. Even if the agreement technically says they can add charges, this amount and the reason behind it were completely unreasonable. I've been a customer for years and barely used the service so it felt like an obvious cash grab. After looking into it, I also saw that plenty of other people have run into similar issues and other problems. I strongly recommend staying away from them.

“undisclosed rate increases”

Pros

I am very unhappy about how things went.

Cons

Working with them has been one of the worst experiences we've had with any company. Over the years, they kept raising our rates without ever informing us. Once we finally started auditing the charges after a few years, we discovered we were being billed more than 10% for B2B credit card transactions which is absolutely ridiculous. It honestly makes me sick to think about. This company feels like a scam and I strongly recommend staying far away from them.

“dishonest billing”

Pros

There was nothing worthwhile about this.

Cons

Dealing with this company has been a terrible experience. They kept charging me even after the contract was terminated and the whole situation has been a nightmare. I would not recommend using them at all. From the sales side up, they came across as dishonest and our rep, Thomas Heitmann, was especially untrustworthy. If you're in Michigan, I would strongly suggest staying away.

“outrageous fees and dishonest billing”

Pros

Not one good thing can be said about it.

Cons

If there were an option for zero stars I'd choose that instead. This company feels incredibly dishonest and I'm shocked that brands like Truist Bank and the Atlanta Braves are connected with them. I'll take some responsibility because I wasn't watching my statements closely enough but I was consistently being charged a combined rate of 10-12% plus other absurd fees on customer purchases. Based on my own math, if I had gone with a processor charging more reasonable rates around 2.89% in combined percentages and fees, I likely would have saved $15,000 to $20,000 last year alone and kept that in my profit margin. Instead, they drained that money through excessive rates and fees. I admit I should have caught it sooner but the way they operate feels criminal. I've since switched to GoDaddy and the difference has been huge. They charge customers the 3% processing fee directly so it doesn't come out of my own account. I just let customers know there's a 3% charge added and that fee goes to the processor, not to my business. Because I left Global Payments, I'll probably keep an extra $20,000 this year. I would strongly warn anyone against doing business with them because they come across as completely dishonest.

“Charged over 10% extra for a basic phone payment portal”

Pros

There are no positives to mention.

Cons

This company deserves negative stars. The pricing is incredibly shady and nowhere near transparent. I only had a payment portal on my phone yet I was being charged more than 10% along with random fees between $100 and $500 that were never disclosed when I agreed to the contract. When questioned, they deny it and talk their way around it but there are clearly extra charges they never tell you about upfront. I'd strongly suggest staying away--this was an absolutely terrible experience.

“funds held for more than a week with no explanation”

Pros

I don't have anything positive to mention.

Cons

Dealing with credit processing has been incredibly frustrating. The delay is far too long and having funds held for more than a week with no good reason is completely unacceptable. CIBC says this company is the one holding the money and that alone is enough to make me close my CIBC account.

“Fees doubled overnight”

Pros

They need to be investigated in my opinion. What a terrible experience.

Cons

Out of nowhere, Global doubled my fees by 100%. Yes, literally 100%. This feels outrageous and it's the kind of thing that deserves a class action.

“money withheld without reason”

Pros

Getting involved with them was a huge mistake.

Cons

After being with Global Payments for over a year, we asked to close our account on June 11 because the fees had become too expensive and we discovered many hidden charges. When we requested the closure, they told us there was still a remaining balance because of a few chargebacks in recent months and they had been holding back 20% of all processed revenue. More than a month later, they are still keeping that balance which is over $40,000 and they refuse to release the funds to us. Every time we try to contact them, they either hang up, say they don't know when the money will be sent or claim another department will reach out soon which never happens. It has now escalated to the point where our lawyers are involved and we have also contacted Visa, Mastercard and Amex, while filing a formal complaint against Global Payments as a payment service provider because we consider this fraudulent behavior.

“Predatory bait-and-switch pricing”

Pros

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with them. To all potential buyers, stay AWAY

Cons

This should really be a negative rating. Global Payments Inc., 3550 Lenox Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30326, US, has been engaging in predatory bait-and-switch pricing and unauthorized electronic fund transfers. Our dealership's contract was terminated through our head office in Tennessee in October 2023 but Global Payments has continued billing us anyway. Even after our head office reached out on 04/21/2026, they still refused to honor the termination or resolve the issue. The financial damage has been serious, with unauthorized withdrawals totaling $8,041.94 taken from an inactive account between 2024 and 2026. On top of that, they applied a 38% fee increase without any prior notice or updated statements. Despite an internal audit confirming these charges do not match our contract or account activity which was zero transactions, Global Payments has refused to provide a full refund. They have basically treated our business account like an open ATM, taking $8,041.94 for supposed services on an account that had no activity at all. Since they ignored our cease-and-desist letters, we eventually had to ask our bank to block their access in March 2026. After that, Global Payments sent us to collections simply because we stopped them from pulling more money from our checking account. It feels like they are helping themselves to free money from small businesses. We also filed a complaint with the BBB but that turned out to be a waste of time since Global is a paying client and already has more than 200 online complaints. BBB will label a case as resolved or answered as long as the company sends some kind of response or offer even when that offer is insulting or completely inadequate. Once it is marked answered, the case is usually closed even if the customer is still extremely dissatisfied.

“persistent financial scams”

Pros

Frankly I hated my experience with them.

Cons

When I bought my store in January 2023, the first year went fine. Then in June 2024, I got my bill for May and it had jumped by $1,000. They had added data security and risk assessment fees which came out to an extra $0.40 per transaction. I called, they agreed to fix it and refunded those extra charges. Then June 2025 came around and the exact same thing happened again. Once again, they gave the money back. Around August or maybe September, I had a call with someone who assured me it would not happen again. That lasted until June 2026, when those outrageous fees showed up yet again. The email response I received said they would only charge me $0.20 per transaction and would "save" me $750 a month, without mentioning that I'd still be paying $750 more per month for the exact same service. I told them that if this wasn't corrected, I'd have to switch to another company especially since I get calls every week from competitors asking for my business. At this point, I'm leaving for a different provider because getting fooled once is one thing but I ended up falling for it three times.

“Undisclosed extra charges”

Pros

To be honest I don't have anything positive to say about it.

Cons

“charges keep ramping up”

Pros

I am disappointed by this service.

Cons

Global Payments somehow manages to perform below already low expectations. The fees are far too high and nowhere near transparent, with charges quietly increasing over time. Support is slow, uncoordinated and almost never fixes anything without several follow-ups. Instead of feeling like a helpful partner, it feels like an ongoing struggle just to have basic problems taken care of.

“Disturbing and unacceptable conduct”

Pros

Genuinely I have nothing positive to share.

Cons

My experience was deeply disappointing and disrespectful. I was repeatedly contacted through webinars, phone calls and emails in a way that came across as harassment. After having my team review the company's financials along with information related to its employees, I came away believing the organization was exploitative and surrounded by the wrong kind of people. I also feel they crossed serious personal boundaries involving me, my family and even the memory of my late grandmother which made the situation even more upsetting. Things escalated to a point where I believed there were severe consequences tied to their actions, including violations of a court gag order protecting me and my family. I only made it through the training videos and had not even been there a full week yet it already felt like they were acting against me in extreme ways. Overall, I see this company as completely unprofessional, aggressive and harmful and I want nothing to do with it.
