Helpful support anytime

Pros

Whenever I needed help, customer service was excellent and I could reach someone 24/7.

Cons

The fees felt a bit high and as a small business, every cent really matters.

worst customer support

Pros

Nothing about this company has been positive for me. The staff seem uninformed and completely uninterested in helping businesses.

Cons

A full year went by before we realized the POS system wasn't actually processing credit card payments which meant we never received that money. Because deposits showed up in our bank account as batch totals, we assumed everything was being recorded correctly until a customer complained and by then the payment was already lost.

awful experience with support team

Pros

Customer service is terrible, the fees are ridiculously high and the whole company feels like a rip-off. So I can't point out anything here as a pro.

Cons

The adjustment fees are outrageous, sometimes costing as much as my full monthly bill and customer support has been just as terrible. There is never any clear reason given for the charges and no one explains where these fees are coming from.

Oudated system

Pros

They got me to sign up by offering a free POS but it feels like they can only do that because the software itself is outdated.

Cons

The whole system feels old and because it is outdated, I cannot make important changes in the software when I need to.

Terrible support and payment delays

Pros

Installing it was simple and the sales team was helpful and did what they could to support us after the purchase.

Cons

It has been the worst POS system I could have chosen and there are several reasons why. First, reaching customer service takes 1 to 2 hours which becomes a huge issue when the system breaks during a busy shift. Second, when tips have to be updated because of failures in their system, it takes at least 3 days to receive those funds and in some cases it has taken as long as 3 weeks. On top of that, customer service is either outsourced to Eastern Europe where the reps do not seem to understand the system or they simply blame the customer and call it user error. I would never recommend this system.

It keeps freezing

Pros

I can't find much to praise here. It runs very slowly, feels outdated and the customer service has been terrible.

Cons

Everything about the system feels extremely outdated. It freezes all the time which leaves customers stuck waiting at checkout and some of them end up walking out instead of paying.

no support or callbacks

Pros

Nothing has stood out as a positive yet. If that changes later on, I'll update my review.

Cons

Support has been completely absent. Neither the sales team nor technical support has returned any of my calls.

Shows constant glitched

Pros

The POS does function a good amount of the time but in the restaurant business that is just not good enough because it really needs to be reliable at all times. Most of the outages seem to happen on weekends and I have dealt with everything from failed hard drives to the credit card system going down to printers not connecting properly. There always seems to be a different issue popping up.

Cons

That pretty much sums it up above. This company feels impossible to get away from once you are using them. On top of that, the software feels inconsistent and patchy and there always seems to be some kind of bug causing problems.

Manual setup is required

Pros

There wasn't anything about the software that worked for me.

Cons

From the very beginning, I had to enter everything myself into the system. I ended up doing all the work, including setting up the entire inventory, when that should not have fallen on me. I was also told this would already be completed beforehand but that was not the case.

Includes hidden charges

Pros

Initial cost was low and getting everything set up didn't take us much time.

Cons

There are honestly too many problems for us to name-random outages keep happening, tickets have gone missing, support takes forever to respond, the business practices feel questionable and the recurring extra fees are just ridiculous.

terrible support

Pros

Being able to duplicate existing products was useful although that is a pretty standard feature you would expect in any POS system.

Cons

Customer support was completely nonexistent. The hardest part of selling our business was having to deal with Harbortouch. They would charge our account for things whenever they felt like it and they kept $4,000 of our funds on hold for more than a month because the RMA department failed to update our account.

False promises and no support

Pros

Nothing about it worked well for us; it was a problem from the very beginning.

Cons

This felt very unethical overall. We got no real customer support, several promises turned out to be false and we were overcharged. Whenever issues came up, nobody returned our calls and it really seemed like they had no concern for their customers.

Beware of hidden fees

Pros

Browsing it is fairly simple for me and the software itself isn't hard to use.

Cons

One frustrating part is how much gets left out during the sales pitch. There are quite a few hidden fees and details that are conveniently never mentioned upfront to us.

Still charging after cancellation

Pros

This company feels like a scam and I would strongly advise others to stay away from Harbor Touch. We were told our account would be canceled yet we are still being hit with hefty fees.

Cons

To me, it has been nothing but a scam. I just want the account closed and for them to stop charging these ongoing fees.

Constant freezing with no fix

Pros

In all honesty there's nothing positive I can point to. If the system had worked the way it was supposed to, I might have had something useful to say but it kept freezing every time. Because of that, it's impossible to give any real praise. On top of that, tech support takes more than half an hour to respond and even then the problem never gets fixed. This software is just no good.

Cons

There really aren't any downsides to list separately beyond the fact that the system never worked at all.

Keeps showing glitches

Pros

Back when I used it from 2014 to 2019, I really enjoyed it and the customer service was excellent before Shift4 took over.

Cons

Now it feels far too temperamental. Every upgrade seems to create new issues, it keeps locking my staff out and it still won't separate tabs properly. I have 5 POS stations and 5 SkyTabs and they don't communicate with each other at all. At least 75% of the time, something is glitching and it has cost me thousands in lost sales and customers walking out. On top of that, the support technicians don't seem familiar enough with the software so I end up spending hours on the phone.

Frustrating cancellation policy

Pros

For the past 9 years, the service itself was acceptable. The only unusual issue was that the monthly statements included information, a name and a contact phone number for a different service. I had to keep reminding myself not to call the number listed on the statement whenever I had a question.

Cons

Trying to cancel with Harbortouch has been extremely frustrating because they only allow cancellations once a year. They say that policy is disclosed somewhere but it is not clear or obvious at all. If you miss that date, they keep charging monthly service fees for the entire next year, even if you are no longer using the service. Apparently, even after 9 years as a customer, that still does not earn any flexibility. If my business ever needs to accept credit cards again, I will not use Harbortouch. That is disappointing because before this cancellation issue, I would have had no reason to avoid going back.

overprice product

Pros

After using this software for around six months, I still can't point to anything I genuinely liked about it. In my opinion, there really weren't any standout benefits or positives to mention.

Cons

Running a salon with this software felt unnecessarily confusing from the start. On top of that, customer support couldn't answer many of the questions or concerns I had. The a la carte pricing model also adds up fast so it ends up being very expensive.

August 2021

horrible experience with support team

Pros

The equipment never even came out of the box so I really can't comment on that part.

Cons

Because we ran into a few delays getting our venue open, Shift4 said they would defer the last four months for us but those deferments never happened and the customer service has been completely unacceptable. For the past two months, I've been trying to cancel and return the equipment which is still unopened in the box. They keep billing me and still haven't sent the cancellation forms I need, even after several phone calls. Once the sale was completed, everything went downhill. All I've gotten is the runaround and they won't let me speak with a manager or supervisor. Frustrated doesn't even begin to cover how I feel at this point.
