Stay away from D&B Hoovers!

Pros

Nothing positive to say. They were horrible and wasted a lot of my time.

Cons

The software has been the worst I have ever used! I couldn't even log in and customer support was awful. After waiting 40 minutes I received an email full of misspelled nonsense that didn't solve the problem!

Not satisfied, wouldn't recommend

Pros

There is some good data on sectors that I'm interested in building lists on.

Cons

The support is terrible, with a lot of run around and no one is helpful.

It has been a good help

Pros

I can find single location entities that aren't generally integrated into our internal D&B database. I can also search for individuals as well.

Cons

It would be helpful if I could see the parent companies of single locations that don't show up without having to rely on SP's CAPIQ.

Gives access to in-depth scaled data

Pros

Overall, it's a great tool. I've been using the service for over 9 years especially in the last 3-4 years and it has made a significant difference in the work we do for our clients. The filtering tools allow me to get either very broad or very targeted data sets.

Cons

The credits system is confusing. I can never quite figure out how many contact credits I've used. It would be great to have a simple outline on the download screen to explain what will be used.

Glad to have this tool

Pros

I like the quality of your database and the speed of your research. Other search engines don't compare when it comes to reaction time.

Cons

Occasionally, I'll see the same contact listed for two companies but I consider it just a transition period. Not everyone updates LinkedIn immediately when they switch jobs.

Great software for prospecting

Pros

It's great. I use it daily as part of my prospecting and hunting responsibilities. The snapshot of information I can get for a portfolio of entities, along with a list of affiliated entities, is invaluable.

Cons

While smaller businesses aren't always listed, which is understandable, it would be great to have a way to find that information. Some industries or fields listed are vague or inaccurate and the classification of industries could use a revisit. A prospecting list with contacts would also be a huge bonus.

D&B Hoovers is essential for sales teams

Pros

Its really a very useful sales tool for both me and my sales staff. I can pre screen customer financials and annual revenue, helping guide sales decisions on prospect customers.

Cons

Certain companies can be hard to find and the search function could be optimized better to yield more accurate results.

Good for finding companies and businesses

Pros

I can find companies and contacts for business and it is fantastic. Plus it's user-friendly.

Cons

Some of the information is incorrect. It would be great if the system could offer suggestions for improvement.

It met all my needs

Pros

D&B Hoovers meets my needs. The ease with which I can find customers and related info is really helpful.

Cons

On the family tree view page, it would be better if the left panel didn't take up space so I can see more of the customer details. Also when completing a survey, the 40-character minimum requirement seems unnecessary when I can respond with fewer characters.

It's good, would use it again

Pros

The overall user experience is positive. It's easy to use and build target lists, which is great for my use case. We have a defined market and are not discovering new accounts, so we used it to explore our current TAM and uncover as much as possible. Once that was complete, we didn't use the tool as much. However, there are lots of lists and browsing options, and the great sorting features help find new contacts.

Cons

The export limit of 1000 records is restrictive especially for niche markets. Also, there are only a few SIC codes for my industry.

Useful tool, can get better

Pros

I love the global coverage and that both private and public companies are often included.

Cons

I dislike the "credits" system, where I have to use credits to download family/corporate trees or other contact information. Also the "incomplete information" tag is confusing and doesn't show up on the report, making the data appear unreliable.

Great info curation

Pros

The holistic view of data is really helpful. Most parent-daughter information is accurate, and competitor data is sometimes valuable.

Cons

Every time I log in, I have to re-enter my preferences. For example, I work in Eastern Canada and focus on IT/Risk and Strategic sectors. I always select North America but then I have to refine my preferences each time.

Amazing research abilities

Pros

It's a fantastic resource for sourcing lists of not just the big industry players but also smaller mom-and-pop companies.

Cons

While the learning curve is steep, it's definitely worth the effort.

It provides very useful details

Pros

Overall, it's a dependable source for detailed company summariesfinancials, company codes, background info, and more.

Cons

Some accounts don't have information available and the NAICS codes aren't always accurate, which is crucial for my work. I often have to double-check other online sources to verify the information.
