I just place my receipts in an envelope and someone else uploads the images for me. If I need to find a receipt (or business card), I simply log in and can locate it within seconds. Plus, it makes tax preparation a breeze!

I liked Shoeboxed because it was very simple. You just select the category for the item, snap a photo, and it does most of the work for you. You can then create expense reports and upload them into a PDF, QuickBooks, Excel, or .csv format. If you want, you can add a note when you log the item.

The simplicity is probably the biggest advantage of this software. Just forward emails to your dedicated Shoeboxed email address, and that's it. For me, it became a habit. Whenever I pay for something online, I just forward the receipt to Shoeboxed. I like having everything in one place (the Shoeboxed dashboard), easy to view and search. When needed, you can export spreadsheets broken down by category for review or to hand over to the accountant at tax time. I don't have many paper receipts, but when necessary, I just snap a photo in the app, categorize it, and it's done.

Cons

When using the email option, I believe every receipt is reviewed and categorized by a human. This led to frequent mislabeling issues; receipts were often attributed to my company instead of the correct one. I suspect this was due to my email signature being automatically added, so I started removing it before forwarding. It's annoying but it solved the problem. It seems they might be rushing through or not paying enough attention.

The features are impressive. Uploading receipts and managing business cards are the main ones I like. I don't travel much for business, but the feature is still handy when needed.

The only downside for me is the current pricing. Otherwise, the service works well when it's functioning properly.
