I find Wave's invoice creation and management tools really easy to use and clearly designed for freelancers and small business owners. I can quickly check the status of my invoices, track incoming payments and send reminders when a payment becomes overdue.

For my part, I find that Wave's accounting capabilities aren't sufficient when I need more advanced accounting functionality.

We began using Wave for our small business because it was free and very user-friendly. Getting our product and service catalog set up and adding client records was easy which makes creating and sending invoices quick and painless. I also find the financial reporting simple to use, there are plenty of filters so I can generate statements and reports tailored to whatever criteria I choose. On top of that, I am able to send monthly bills or statements directly to customers.

Cons

I have found the online payment options frustrating because Wave only supports three gateways, PayPal, Stripe and Square. Being a South African business, none of these are helpful or, in many cases, even available to us so my customers cannot pay invoices automatically when they receive them. That forces us into a clunky manual EFT workaround. To make matters worse, support and the official use of Wave Accounting in South Africa has been discontinued.

Wave Accounting really works well for me, I appreciate its detailed reporting, unlimited expense tracking, invoicing and receipt generation through the app, it's incredibly easy to use.

My only real gripe with the app is that support is billed separately which ends up making it costly any time I need to speak with someone.

Back when the app was open to every country, my experience was far superior, however, now that they've imposed these limitations, it's become terrible.

I am frustrated, it's basically useless. I cannot even bulk import customers from Google Sheets into Wave without problems. When I try to upload around a thousand contacts it will only push about two hundred, then freeze and afterward it starts endlessly duplicating entries with no option to remove them.

I found there's essentially no account security so if I got Covid-19 or had to be rushed to the ER while still logged into Wave, other staff could walk in, access the account, add employees or bump up wages without my approval, on top of that, Wave doesn't provide a direct customer service phone number. That lack of protection and support left me feeling completely stranded and lost.

After I reported fraud on my account, there was no customer service phone number to call, instead I was effectively banned for life. I lost the ability to use direct deposit and Wave wouldn't report or remit payroll withholdings to state agencies or the IRS for me. I was left handling everything myself and I couldn't even receive invoices through the platform.

I have noticed the free tier includes a ton of useful features. Preparing invoices is easy and painless. There's even a mobile app so I can easily send invoices while I am out and about.

Personally, I'd like more flexibility when customizing invoice and quote templates because the current choices feel limited and I want greater creative control over how my documents look.

It also supports the accounting workflows that were designed for medium-sized companies, private users or marketers so I can use those features too. I can take action quickly and begin working simply and easily through a web browser. The service provides more streamlined solutions especially for fast, urgent tasks and generating professional visual invoices plus tracking income and expenses makes monitoring finances much simpler and easier. I think it's a great option for growing e-commerce.

Because it's web-based, I have noticed occasional issues tied to my internet connection speed. That said when those slowdowns happen they're caused by my local network rather than the system itself so the platform isn't at fault.

I have been really happy with how simple and convenient Waveapp is for managing my monthly invoicing. As a self-employed healthcare professional who has to bill the clinics I work at, having Waveapp available on my phone with easy Google sign-in makes getting paid much less stressful today.

One of my clients prefers receiving invoices and paying via PayPal and I still haven't figured out how to connect that payment method directly inside Wave so I end up producing the invoice in both systems as a manual workaround.
