Extremely flexible tool

Pros

It is amazing how flexible this tool is. It offers strong data analysis and visualization features. The query tools and connection options are especially powerful when working with different data sources.

Cons

Getting comfortable with it can take quite a bit of time for many users. On top of that, certain capabilities, settings and features are not always easy to locate or use correctly.

Smooth integration with Microsoft tools

Pros

Working with it has been very convenient especially because it connects smoothly with Excel and other Microsoft tools I already use. It lets me turn raw data into clear dashboards and charts without needing too much effort. The interactive reports also make trends and performance much easier to follow and understand.

Cons

Getting started with some features can be a bit challenging especially for beginners who are still learning the platform. It may also slow down when handling very large data files. Also, accessing the full set of features requires a paid plan which might not be ideal for everyone.

Supports data-driven decisions

Pros

It does a really nice job of turning complicated data into clear, interactive visuals that are simple to understand and share with others. The integration with Excel, SharePoint and Microsoft 365 works really well too so connecting and refreshing data feels simple and helps support better, data-driven decisions.

Cons

There's still a bit of a learning curve when you start getting deeper into data modeling and it can help to have some programming knowledge or prior experience. Licensing costs can also start to add up over time.

great data connections

Pros

This software works really well with a wide range of data sources, whether it's APIs, SQL, Excel files or even Access databases. That flexibility makes it a very capable tool for pulling everything together in one place.

Cons

I'm not a fan of having to pay for the Pro version just to share reports although that's pretty much how most tools handle it and it's not too surprising.

Turns reports into attractive data tables

Pros

it can take reports and turn them into visually appealing data tables for end users. It's a solid platform that helps users analyze information effectively, making it much easier to support data-driven decision-making.

Cons

Its biggest challenge is the complexity since building reports really requires training to understand the process properly. The report creation interface can feel confusing if you haven't gone through that learning first so taking advantage of the available training options, from beginner to advanced, is highly recommended.

Our go-to platform for data analysis

Pros

Moving up from Microsoft Excel, this is pretty much the go-to platform in the data analysis space. There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to understanding the platform's language and the way it connects with different data sources but the interface helps a lot. It includes wizards for setting up data sources, creating dashboard gauges and managing access to reports which makes the process easier to follow. The built-in Microsoft feel, the familiar layout and the guidance features make it user-friendly to navigate and use. On top of that, there's a huge amount of support available online through places like Guy in a Cube and Microsoft Learn, including certification paths.

Cons

When it comes to analyzing data sets and turning information into digestible outputs like dashboards for management or insights for operational teams, it does the job really well. That said, it doesn't offer the depth of dedicated analysis platforms such as IBM SPSS although tools like that also demand much stronger analytical and mathematical knowledge. The part that gets frustrating is that some things that seem simple, like arranging a series in the order you want, are less user-friendly than they should be. In many cases, data sets also need to be supplemented with extra information to display things in the desired way and that can make the work take longer than expected at the start.

Better access to hidden data

Pros

It gives us access to data that would otherwise stay buried in a database that only developers can get into.

Cons

setting it up still takes help from a developer and you also need tunnels for access when the data isn't hosted on-premise.

Highly customizable

Pros

There's a lot built into it, with plenty of customization options and overall it feels pretty user friendly. Once you get the hang of how it works, jumping into new projects becomes much more natural.

Cons

One thing to keep in mind is that you really have to stay current with it. Microsoft rolls out updates and changes to options and features very frequently.

Stores a large amount of data

Pros

It handles storing a large amount of information really well which is especially useful when there's a lot of data that needs to be collected and kept organized.

Cons

Getting the information you need can feel a bit challenging the first time you use it and it definitely takes some time to get familiar with how everything works.

Provides solid value

Pros

It gives excellent value overall, with a quick setup process, an interactive interface, solid analysis and reporting capabilities and even useful tools for data cleaning. Pulling in data from different sources is also simple.

Cons

Performance can drag with very large datasets and refreshing data isn't always fast. Writing DAX formulas can be challenging and some of the more advanced features take training to use well.

Helps collect, track and analyze data

Pros

If you're looking for a platform that helps collect, track and analyze data tied to your work processes, this is one of the best options out there. Its tools give you a very high level of control and make data management feel well covered.

Cons

There really isn't any major downside for me to point out since the performance and technical capabilities it offers are quite satisfying. The pricing can be on the higher side but that depends on your budget and how you evaluate the value.

Pros

There's a huge amount you can do with it. It lets you create all kinds of reports and present them in whatever format works best for your needs.

Cons

It takes some time to learn on your own or you may need help from a consultant before you can really take advantage of everything it offers.

Cost-effective solution

Pros

Compared with other Business Intelligence platforms, Power BI stands out as one of the strongest options because it's user-friendly, affordable since the desktop version is free aside from the service and not hard to learn. That makes it a very approachable choice for someone without a technical background who still needs to work with data confidently. The interface is clear and user-friendly, it connects to a huge range of data sources and the Power BI service also helps automate many reports which adds a lot of value.

Cons

Chart customization still feels more limited than what you get in Excel or Tableau and once you start working with multiple datasets, you really need to understand data modeling and how to properly create relationships between tables.

Great for presenting data

Pros

Working with it has been really helpful for analyzing and presenting data. It does an excellent job of turning large amounts of information into clear charts and graphs. That makes it much easier for my team and me to understand what we're looking at and share those findings with other people across the company. It's also a strong option for building dashboards that bring together the key metrics and insights we want everyone to see.

Cons

Getting started was the most difficult part for me. It took some time to figure out how to import data correctly and customize the visual appearance the way I wanted. Better training resources or more helpful tutorials would make the learning process much easier. The interface feels a little outdated and could definitely use a more modern design.

Syncs well with other tools

Pros

Right away, the visual dashboarding stood out to me. It helps both technical and non-technical users turn raw data into interactive, attractive reports without much friction. Another big plus is how well it connects with the other tools we rely on every day.

Cons

It's generally user-friendly but getting comfortable with the more advanced features can still be challenging for beginners.

Tidy interface

Pros

The platform delivers solid value through user-friendly dashboards, fast deployment and a clean interface. Our editors can quickly track submission trends, reviewer turnaround times and publication timelines without needing much training.

Cons

Some of the more advanced visualizations come as add-ons which creates extra steps for non-technical staff during busy, high-pressure editorial periods.

Changed the way I handle reporting

Pros

Power BI has really changed the way I handle data visualization and reporting. It feels like a real game changer and I've been enjoying using it a lot.

Cons

if you're new to programming, it can feel a little challenging at first. I wouldn't really call that a flaw though, it's more a sign that the tool has a lot of depth and complexity.

Turns data into clear summaries

Pros

Turning spreadsheet data into clear summaries is much more convenient with this tool especially when working with Excel files. The charts look more appealing and filtering and presenting them is faster than doing the same work directly in Excel. Because of that, it works really well as a complement to spreadsheet-based reporting.

Cons

I still miss stronger built-in automation for report creation. Some of the data I need comes from IT-managed files but there still is not a practical way to automate chart generation so I end up manually loading every graph I want to add to my reports. It would be very helpful to have a way to consistently recreate the same chart for a report based on previously selected filter items or just improve the overall report generation process. I understand that, technically, the information can be looked up but in a large organization not everyone has access to the same IT files so I often have to manually search through things and take screenshots.
