versatile data import options

Pros

It's really flexible when it comes to bringing in data from all kinds of different sources which makes the tool much more practical to use.

Cons

At times, the desktop application can lag and that ends up slowing things down and affecting overall efficiency.

Accurate insights

Pros

Right from the start, the interface felt really user friendly which makes importing data, validating information, running calculations and building visualizations very easy. It's also really useful for spotting trends and patterns and it even helps with forecasting future events.

Cons

Does require at least an intermediate understanding of Excel and you'll need to invest some time to get comfortable using the platform.

Good power query feature

Pros

Has Power Query built in for data cleaning and wrangling. I can just drop in updated data files and refresh my datasets so the insights stay current without much hassle.

Cons

Publishing reports can be a bit challenging at times although I understand why since access has to be controlled carefully to protect sensitive corporate data.

great tool

Pros

Lets you build relationships between data sets. You can set up those connections and adjust them on the fly to instantly see how the dashboard changes. That's incredibly useful for dynamic reports that keep evolving over time. Another strong point is the drag and drop dashboard builder. A lot of the backend work is handled automatically once the data source is supported by Power BI which lowers the barrier for beginners. Even someone with little to no prior experience can still put together attractive, real time dashboards.

Cons

The biggest challenge comes when you start working on more complex dashboards because the learning curve is pretty steep. Getting them created and maintained at the beginning can take a lot of effort although it does become much more manageable with practice. On the positive side, Microsoft provides solid official documentation and because its so widely used, the community support around it is strong as well.

Able to handle large data sets well

Pros

Compared with building dashboards in Excel, this is on a completely different level. There are far more options to work with and it handles very large data sets really well. It also doesn't bog the software down unless the issue is your computer being slow.

Cons

At times, you have to experiment with different chart types and figure out which data works best in each visual. That can be a little frustrating now and then but with some patience and persistence, it turns out really well.

reliable dashboards for teams

Pros

Working with it has been a solid choice especially in a company already using the Microsoft ecosystem. The overall quality is really strong and it covers all the features we need. It's also clear and understandable for everyone who uses it or looks at the reports which makes adoption across the team much easier.

Cons

For weekly use, it performs very well and does exactly what we need. That said, once we move into larger projects that have to run across different real time data lakes, building and managing them still feels a bit challenging.

Power BI review

Pros

There are so many possibilities with this tool and I'm still discovering new ways we can put it to use.

Cons

It's definitely very open-ended so it isn't the most efficient option for every single task but it's still excellent overall.

solid filtering

Pros

Filtering data and viewing statistics on the user side is pretty easy which makes it simple to understand the information being presented.

Cons

Building BI dashboards can be challenging when you're completely new to it and the guides, tutorials and help resources are not especially beginner-friendly.

strong analytics

Pros

Power BI handles very large amounts of data really well and connects to a wide range of data sources. Updates seem to come out often and they regularly add better visualizations along with useful new features.

Cons

Can slow down other apps while it's running. I've also noticed there still isn't a desktop version for Mac users. DAX is a bit different from other data analysis tools which can make the transition tricky at first although the community forums and bulletin boards are very helpful for formula tips and suggestions.

Great sharing options

Pros

Viewing reports is simple and importing and exporting them works really well too.

Cons

There are times when setting up reports feels a bit confusing but that may be more of an internal limitation since I'm just an end user and my company only gives us limited access.

reliable reporting across systems

Pros

An extremely powerful tool for reporting across multiple systems, whether I'm working with each system separately or combining them into one report.

Creating detailed reports does require technical knowledge especially when it comes to understanding database structures.

powerful visuals for KPI tracking

Pros

Offers a lot of ways to visualize data and build reports. It connects well to both simple databases and more complex data sources which makes it very flexible. The wide selection of visuals and features makes it a strong fit for teams that manage company KPIs. The mobile app is also very useful for daily routines and helps save time.

Cons

Building the right metrics is not very easy and it really takes deeper training to create dashboards that are smart, fast and interactive. Another downside is the high cost of the premium license. It would be helpful if there were a mid tier option with fewer features at a more affordable price for small businesses.

A charting powerhouse

Pros

Across our health care system, this plays a major role in tracking time details tied to patient charting. We generate thousands and thousands of notes every week and it's one of the few tools powerful enough to process all of that information and identify what's become delinquent. It helps keep us from falling into deficiency and delinquency and overall it supports the strong patient care reputation we work hard to maintain.

Cons

Exporting the data is still the best way to confirm the information is accurate, relying only on the dashboard can be questionable at times because it may show outdated data or pull in information that isn't fully reliable.

Excel friendly dashboards and drilldowns

Pros

Coming from a heavy Excel background, using this software was quite easy. Being able to drill into the numbers and turn them into visualizations is a real advantage.

Cons

One thing I've noticed is that adding comments to visual elements doesn't seem as polished or convenient as it is in Excel.

great fit with Microsoft tools

Pros

It connects really easily with Teams and other Microsoft products. That integration makes it much more convenient to use within the tools we already rely on.

Cons

There's still plenty of room for improvement when it comes to the feature set. It feels like a lot of fundamental capabilities are still missing so they could definitely build it out much more.

Quick reports

Pros

Report development is completely free and you only need to pay for licensing when it's time to share with other users. It's very user friendly, simple to work with and supports hundreds of data sources.

Cons

Honestly, there's not much to complain about because everything works really well. The only thing I'd like to see is native support for MySQL or AWS RDS as data sources in the Power BI Service, without needing to depend on a custom gateway.

solid DAX

Pros

Between the DAX functions, the ability to transform data after loading it and the wide range of visualizations available, this tool has been incredibly helpful for me in handling and processing data.

Cons

Up to this point, I really haven't noticed any downsides. The features have all worked very well and it has helped a lot of people deliver strong business intelligence.
