“reliable global messaging platform”

Pros

This has been really solid for sending SMS worldwide at a good price and the voice calling works very well too. The SDK and documentation are simple to work with so integrating it into an application doesn't take much effort. I also haven't run into any security problems, as long as the required documents are submitted for each country where SMS delivery is needed.

Cons

One of the most frustrating parts of using it is dealing with country specific regulatory compliance for SMS sender IDs and constantly keeping up with changing rules across different regions. On top of that the interface feels more complicated than it needs to be and SMS costs can get pretty expensive once you start supporting multiple countries and regions.

“broad range of integrations”

Pros

It has been dependable for sending SMS, handling calls and keeping customer communication organized. Another big plus is the broad selection of integrations and automation features which makes it really useful for linking communication workflows with other business systems.

Cons

Pricing is a bit hard to follow at times especially when you're using several services and the costs can climb as usage grows. It also takes a while to fully learn all the features and get everything configured the right way.

“solid documentation”

Pros

We mostly rely on this for OTP verification across SaaS products, both in client work and in a few of our own apps. The best part is that after the first setup is in place, rolling out phone verification in a new project is pretty easy. The API gives enough flexibility, the documentation is solid overall and there are plenty of examples that make it possible to get an OTP flow running without burning too much development time. That matters a lot when we are quickly building and testing new SaaS ideas. Delivery has also been dependable in our use cases which means we don't need to spend time building or maintaining this kind of infrastructure ourselves.

Cons

Something that feels less polished is the dashboard and pricing structure which can seem more complicated than necessary. This offers a wide range of products and configuration choices so even if all you need is something basic like OTP, it still takes a while to figure out which services and settings actually matter. The pricing is fair for smaller projects but once usage starts increasing, it becomes something you have to watch much more closely. On top of that some of the verification and compliance requirements can make the initial setup take longer than expected.

“Too many bugs”

Pros

It comes packed with features and a lot of them can be configured pretty quickly with the help of an LLM. That said, the endless bureaucracy, long delays and the completely indifferent response when the problems are caused by their own bugs really ruin the overall experience.

Cons

The platform is buggy and customer support is basically nonexistent. Unless you're a large enough customer, they don't seem to care which is a terrible attitude for startups and honestly for anyone considering the product. If reliability and uptime matter to you, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere because your issues simply don't seem important to them.

“APIs are clearly documented”

Pros

The app gives developers a lot of flexibility when adding communication features like SMS, voice calling and notifications into their apps. The APIs are clearly documented which makes integrating these services into projects fairly manageable. It also comes with a broad set of features and integration options so there's plenty to work with.

Cons

Something that can be tricky is the pricing model especially if you're using more than one service at a time. On top of that some of the more advanced capabilities need extra setup and technical know how which can make the platform feel a bit overwhelming for beginners.

“misleading charges with no cancellation”

Pros

I don't have anything positive to mention. The process never even got off the ground because they charged me upfront so the whole experience started badly.

Cons

I dealt with misleading billing, no clear way to cancel, very slow support and software that didn't even function properly. I was charged without my consent and couldn't find any cancellation option on the website. It was a terrible experience and I'd strongly recommend staying away from this company.

“reliable voice tools”

Pros

It provides a full set of communication APIs backed by excellent documentation and a platform that feels very developer friendly. The integration flow is thoughtfully built and the SDKs make it simple to add SMS, voice and WhatsApp functionality into an app. It's also dependable in production and flexible enough to handle a wide variety of use cases.

Cons

Getting through the account verification and compliance steps was easily the most frustrating part of using it. Our business verification was denied several times even after we submitted the documents they asked for and support took too long to help sort it out. That caused major delays for our project and made onboarding far more difficult than we expected.

“useful texting feature”

Pros

Being able to send bulk texts to our constituents has been really valuable and it helps us get people the information they need without delay. On top of that their nonprofit program is a big plus, with free credits and discounted pricing that makes the platform more affordable.

Cons

The downside is that it's interface feels behind the times compared with today's low code, vibe coding expectations. The backend can also be hard to navigate and finding specific things especially billing related items, takes more effort than it should.

“Solid telephony software for high volumes”

Pros

This has been an excellent telephony solution for handling outbound calling priorities in a way that fits our business needs and customer outreach. It's dependable and does a really good job supporting a large volume of leads without issues.

Cons

Because it's such a detailed, multi functional platform, it does take some training and hands on practice to become comfortable with everything it offers. That said, having so many capabilities is ultimately a good problem to have.

“great no code solution”

Pros

Twilio is an excellent platform for developers working on telephony communications and it's affordable while still being flexible enough to put together no code solutions without much trouble.

Cons

Interface can feel pretty complicated, with a lot of technical jargon to sort through before you can finally get everything up and running.

“delivery stayed consistently reliable”

Pros

It worked well for sending OTPs and notification messages in one of our projects and the delivery stayed consistently reliable. Getting it integrated was fairly manageable thanks to the documentation. Once the initial setup was done, it handled our needs dependably.

Cons

Some parts of the setup were a little unclear in the beginning especially when configuring certain API settings. The pricing also started to feel expensive as our usage went up. It took a bit of testing before we got everything working exactly the way we wanted.

“a lot of unresolved issues”

Pros

Honestly, there's not much to praise. It does offer a broad set of features and has strong name recognition but in actual use it's difficult to work with, the documentation falls short for real world scenarios and the weak support experience cancels out whatever value those advantages might have brought.

Cons

By far the most frustrating part is the support setup. Even though support costs extra, problems still don't get properly fixed and there's barely any meaningful follow up or feedback. Beyond that, the platform feels awkward to use, more complicated than it needs to be and the documentation is not very useful when it comes to real implementation needs. In the end, it comes across less as a dependable communications platform and more as an added burden for developers.

“broad integrations”

Pros

This connects with a wide range of platforms which is one of its biggest advantages. That broad compatibility and overall presence make it a very flexible option to work with.

Cons

A frustrating part is that when it has an outage or there's a problem with a number, the user is often left to troubleshoot it on their own. There's very little proactive communication when something breaks.

“Affordable programmable voice”

Pros

The app adds a programmable voice API layer that lets you use its SDK to build messaging and calling apps without much hassle. The pricing starts low which makes it a really good fit for smaller scale applications. On top of that their customer support has been very responsive whenever needed.

Cons

Since Twilio has been around for a long time some of the documentation and information can feel a bit inconsistent across different implementations as the technology has evolved. It also doesn't come with native integrations for other systems.

Pros

Gives me a lot of flexibility, letting me handle not just bulk emails but text messaging as well. The app also feels very secure which is a big plus.

Cons

Getting started came with a bit of a learning curve though it didn't take long to get past it. After everything is set up, there's little to no interaction needed.

“packed with features”

Pros

“verification delays”

Pros

Honestly, its great to work with and the platform does include a rich set of features. Beyond that, I really do not have much positive to say about the API or the sign up process.

Cons

This ended up costing our company two months of development time. I have handled verification processes before and this one has dragged on longer than any of them. At times they reject submissions without giving any reason and other times the verification just sits there with no progress at all. For the last month, they have repeatedly told me to delete and resubmit the very same verification because they claim they cannot find it even though it is clearly visible in their website portal. I have already been passed through three different tech support representatives and still have no resolution and no real explanation.

“solid communication platform”

Pros

The software's communication features are what I appreciate most especially how quickly calls usually go through without any problems.

Cons

A downside is that there have been quite a few times when incoming calls wouldn't come through properly or no calls came in on the lines at all unless the system was rebooted.

“frustrating experience with support”

Pros

At first, the SMS feature and the pricing seemed like the only good parts but everything went downhill after that. The service was poor and instead of respecting the choices you make, they turn around and blame you for them.

Cons

Customer support is really awful. They don't seem to understand that they're also responsible for the options they provide to customers.

“voice features are useful”

Pros

This feels very full featured and capable. It handles a wide range of things and even though we are not using every feature right now, it is reassuring to know all that functionality is there whenever we need it.

Cons

Navigating the interface can be a little confusing at times but the help documentation is really strong. Whenever I have not been able to locate something, the help files have walked me through it step by step. I only had to reach out to support once and they fixed the issue quickly.
