“simple channels and chat setup”
Pros
It's a really solid business chat tool and setting up channels along with customizing chat preferences is very easy.
Cons
Downside is that it doesn't look as polished or visually appealing as other chat apps like Slack.

“perfect fit for private messaging”
Pros
Having a communication platform this easy has been a big plus for us. It covers nearly all the modern messaging features you'd expect from something like Slack in the cloud but it runs on our own company servers instead. If your organization needs an enterprise tool without relying on the cloud, this is an excellent match.
Cons
Something that could be better is the number of extensions available. The app catalog is still fairly limited right now although I expect that to improve over time. Even so, the current selection is already quite good.

“Top slack alternative with self-hosting”
Pros
Compared with other Slack alternatives, it feels like the strongest option available right now. The biggest advantage is being able to install it on your own local servers so you are not depending on a third party to keep your data on internet-hosted systems. That is especially valuable for organizations or users who are cautious about online data storage. Also, it includes a broad set of features which is why I see it as the best platform currently competing with Slack.
Cons
A frustration is that updating it can be complicated at times and in some cases it can even feel impossible. Some of the features and settings are also not very user friendly so it can be hard to tell exactly what certain options are meant to do.

“helpful for team discussions”
Pros
The platform is user-friendly and makes communication between members simple. It works well for group discussions and helps teams stay connected.
Cons
Doesn't allow us to share every type of file, such as cs and cshtml files.

“our team likes it”
Pros
Love that it's free and simple to use and actually works well as a collaboration tool.
Cons
It could definitely use more development when it comes to features and the app isn't that good compared with the web version.

“easy team communication”
Pros
It works really well as a communication tool for smaller organizations. We can set up private channels which helps the team stay productive while discussing projects and sharing new ideas. The features I appreciate most are the audio and video conferencing along with screen sharing.
Cons
Only supports uploading image files and doesn't offer file versioning. It's also missing calendar and contact sharing features.

“Trustworthy private chats”
Pros
This has been the best software for private chatting. It feels very secure and I consider it one of the safest chat apps out there.
Cons
Been an excellent app overall and I honestly haven't come across any problems with it.

“It's good”
Pros
Using it has been pretty easy and the flexible chat options are especially useful. It works really well for programmers as well as team management.
Cons
The UI still needs some improvement because it doesn't feel very eye-catching right now.

“my review...”
Pros
It works well as a communication and file-sharing app. The group chat feature is especially useful since it lets us chat and share things with multiple people at the same time.
Cons
What's missing is an option to save or pin important items in group chats so we would not have to search through the entire conversation later. It would also be better if all file types could be shared, including files like C and HTML.

“fast chats and file sharing”
Pros
Out of all the chat tools I've used, this one has been the simplest to work with. Sending files is officially very convenient and overall I'm really happy with it.
Cons
Group chatting and file sharing work really well. I'd just like to see a few extra features added, such as emojis and similar functions.

“useful for team communication”
Pros
This works well for organizations that need a reliable way to communicate with employees and handle team discussions in one place.
Cons
Frustrating part is how often the version changes sometimes almost every week which means users have to keep updating it all the time.

“A really good platform”
Pros
The platform feels very user-friendly and it's reliable when it comes to entering data.
Cons
Managing the administration side can be a bit challenging and the documentation does not always go into enough detail. Also some features are still missing or not fully supported across every client.

“open source with setup hassles”
Pros
For me, this being open source is a big plus and the fact that you can host it yourself is really appealing. It also offers a feature set that comes pretty close to competitors like Slack.
Cons
Getting your own rocket instance up and running can be pretty frustrating and in some cases it may make more sense to stick with Slack's free version or pay for Slack if you need enterprise-level management.

“Packed with features”
Pros
Love it! Getting this for free for both personal and commercial use is pretty amazing. Beyond that, it performs really well and the option to deploy it with Docker means you can have it running quickly. It comes with a huge range of functions you can integrate, enough to compete with platforms like Discord and Slack. There's a lot built in. You can also add bots which is a nice bonus and feels like a must-have feature these days.
Cons
Honestly there aren't many downsides that come to mind, aside from it maybe not being the best fit for people who aren't very technical. It's a powerful platform and with that comes a lot of settings so it's possible to get a little lost if you're not sure where to look. That said, anyone who can follow instructions should still be able to get it set up and working.

“Feature-packed chat powerhouse”
Pros
A full-featured chat platform like this offers a lot especially for free software. It comes with plenty of functionality, can be hosted on your own servers using the available snap installs and also connects nicely with a website if you want to add a live chat option alongside the regular chat environment.
Cons
Few competing chat tools are starting to include threaded conversations which would be a nice addition here. Parts of the self-hosted setup can also be a bit challenging though it's nothing too difficult overall.

“customizable option for small teams”
Pros
After searching for a Slack alternative with more flexibility, it feels like a workable choice for a small business that wants something more customizable.
Cons
In the end, it was still lacking a few features we had in Slack and our users definitely noticed and missed them. I also wish there were a more affordable plan for very small businesses especially teams with 10 people or fewer.

“Budget-friendly for small teams”
Pros
Being open source is easily the biggest advantage here because it gives you a lot of room to customize the product. It covers most of what Slack offers although it still needs a few newer features to fully match that experience. If you know how to use it well, the cost is close to nothing. I'd definitely recommend it to startups and smaller tech teams with around 10 to 15 people or fewer.
Cons
It still needs more integrations before it feels completely practical for everyday use. And now that Hangouts Chat is in the market, the product really has to stand out more clearly and offer a stronger value proposition.

“good one!”
Pros
Running it on your own infrastructure is very easy. It also connects well with other applications through webhooks and being open source makes it available and practical for a wide range of companies.
Cons
Few features feel like they weren't fully thought out. For instance, the room title color changes depending on the room name and there's no option to customize it manually, when being able to choose a color would make much more sense. The current threaded conversations also don't do enough to keep multiple discussions in one room from becoming messy. Also, the Slackbot alternative, Hubot, doesn't seem to get much active development so it falls behind Slack in that area.
