“Wonderful channel collaboration”

Pros

Lets multiple users join and work together in channels which keeps communication flowing freely on a regular basis. It's a very interactive tool for project managers who need to reach large groups of people and make information sharing open and convenient. Also, you can send direct messages to anyone with access to the Rocket.Chat platform. Another big plus is that it can be downloaded on mobile for both Android and iOS and on desktop for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Cons

At times, when the app runs into issues, you have to switch to the browser to log in instead.

“powerful chatops for teams”

Pros

It has become a very powerful tool for our company. We use dozens of chatbots and chatOps features and they really help our teams with daily work.

Cons

One thing that still needs improvement in it is temporary group chats with three or more people. Right now, every time we need one, we have to create a new room.

“budget-friendly choice”

Pros

This tool lets our team keep internal conversations going without worrying about messages disappearing because of account limits. The pricing also made the switch a lot more practical for us. It's a really strong option for start-up teams.

Cons

Honestly there's not much to complain about. It offers nearly all the same features as Slack, if not all of them and does it at a much lower cost.

“so reliable”

Pros

Affordable, open-source and available with self-hosting if you want that flexibility. It's actively being developed, usually performs quickly and the cloud version was simple to get up and running. Overall, it does the job well.

Cons

It still needs more polish. There are quite a few small issues that add unnecessary friction and end up being annoying or confusing. For example, aliases are case-sensitive which trips up my team all the time. Alias autocomplete has a tiny delay that makes it harder to rely on. I also can't customize the order of my groups and direct messages in the left sidebar and the notification settings are confusing and not very user-friendly.

“Boosts our sales”

Pros

Something that really helps with this app is how little system resources it uses while running in the background. It's free, open source and saves a lot of time when we need to send a quick message. Our sales team relies on it to get fast answers whenever we're unsure about something. It's an effective tool that helps us come across as informed, confident and knowledgeable.

Cons

The only real downside is the updates. Even though bugs tend to get fixed quickly, the app still needs to be restarted after an update.

“secure team communication”

Pros

We use this tool a lot across our organization to stay in touch with colleagues and share work-related updates or important information. It feels like a secure way to communicate which is a big plus. Being able to go back through earlier chats is really helpful when we need to find past details and the group feature makes it simple to send the same message to everyone at once.

Cons

Would be even better if a few more features were added.

“Flexible integrations and self-hosting”

Pros

Connects with a wide range of services and also gives the company the option to install it on its own server.

Cons

Since it's an open-source project, it still comes with a few bugs from time to time.

“affordable team chat value”

Pros

Compared with competitors like Slack, this product is much more affordable while still offering almost the same core features you'd expect. It lets you communicate with people in group conversations or through private channels which covers the main ways teams usually need to chat.

Cons

I feel its missing some functionality especially extensions that other competing platforms already offer. It would also be useful to have a feature that lets you save specific parts of a chat.

“Strong privacy”

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is that this is a free, open-source chat application with a lot of useful capabilities built in. It includes a private chat option that feels more secure which is a big plus. Another very helpful feature is the automatic translation of incoming messages into English when someone is chatting in another language. It also connects well with chatbots which adds a lot of flexibility. Also, plugins such as Drupal can be installed for theme customization. The platform supports multiple authentication methods, including Facebook and LinkedIn and the rocket community is very supportive. I also like being able to subscribe to different global channels to learn and gain knowledge.

Cons

Haven't come across any issues or drawbacks with this software.

“Great team chat alternative”

Pros

While building a company, if you don't want to spend money on chat software, it is one of the best options out there. It looks really nice and the user experience feels very close to Slack or Discord. There are also plenty of features that make team communication work well.

Cons

Setup is something you'll want your developers to handle, otherwise you'll need to pay for the cloud version.

“One of the best!”

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is that it supports several deployment methods especially the one-click free Heroku deployment which is the option I enjoy using the most.

Cons

The interface feels pretty basic and the internal setup and configuration structure can be quite complicated to work through.

“chats from anywhere!”

Pros

It works well for both direct one-to-one conversations and group discussions. The interface is very user-friendly and the biggest advantage is that it's open source. I can stay in touch with my colleagues even when I'm away from the office which is really useful. It also comes with a web version so if the desktop app isn't working, I can still continue chatting without much trouble.

Cons

One thing that's missing is drag-and-drop support for files in group chats so I have to open the attachment window every time I want to send something. The desktop app also tends to hang quite a bit at times, even in the middle of an active conversation.

“local messaging works well”

Pros

At work, we rely on it quite a bit and one thing that works really well is the local communication. When the internet goes down, we're still able to message each other through it and we can upload files too which is really useful.

Cons

The interface could definitely be better although it's not a dealbreaker. It also gets updated all the time and on Mac those updates sometimes cause it to fail.

“simple to use”

Pros

It's easy to use and being able to favorite specific people or group chats makes them much easier to spot quickly.

Cons

What it really lacks is chat search so you have to remember who you talked to about a certain topic which makes finding past conversations pretty difficult.

“I really liked it!”

Pros

Whether it's for one-on-one chats, group discussions, team conversations or company-wide updates, this works really well for internal communication. It's easy to use, reliable and does exactly what we need it to do.

Cons

Getting the notifications working properly was really difficult for us and the app also has to be restarted pretty often.

“fantastic chat UI and integrations”

Pros

Right from the start, the interface feels polished and user-friendly. Installation is quick, the platform is simple to use and the chatbot support is a nice touch. It also works well with third-party integrations, supports both public and private rooms and lets you create an unlimited number of groups. Also, it can show complete profile details, includes automatic web push and push notifications and delivers a very fast, responsive messaging experience. The available themes are a nice bonus too.

Cons

A few more theme options and additional GIF images would make it even better. It would also help if recent updates were shared more clearly especially details about software changes and new version releases.

“A polished slack alternative”

Pros

Sure felt like a polished replacement for Slack and let us switch over quickly. A big plus in our tech environment is not having to deal with the 10k message limit wiping out older useful conversations and fixes.

Cons

The only downside is that so many people still use Slack so when one group moves to this software, it ends up being one more client or browser tab to keep open. That's not really their fault though, I'm just hoping more of the world makes the move too. Ha!

“Great value for team collaboration”

Pros

After years of relying on Skype, moving our company over to this tool felt like the most practical change we could have made. It gives us a full set of collaboration features, including group conversations, file sharing, user permissions, chat customization and more. Also, it comes at no cost at all. Being open source is another big advantage since plenty of people are able to look over the code and help keep the product quality in check. It also gets updated regularly which is reassuring.

Cons

One limitation is that you can't quote a message that was posted in another chat room. When there's something important that needs to be shared with a different group, you usually have to copy the message manually and paste it instead.
