Concise and great for remote access

Pros

As a mental health clinician, I find Cerner concise and well-suited to the documentation I have to complete. I also appreciate being able to access it easily from my laptop when I am away from the office.

Cons

At times I find it frustrating and hard to keep track when multiple different windows open which makes the workflow more difficult to manage.

easy to use with simple syncing

Pros

In my experience the app is easy to use and it syncs with other programs.

Cons

I get frustrated when synchronization automatically pushes data to other applications.

3.0

Information-rich but inefficient and slow

Pros

I have been using the Firstnet program to create patient charts. As I'd expected, it consolidates a large amount of information and includes macro functionality that helps align the process of creating, editing and viewing charts.

Cons

Learning the software wasn't easy and even after using it I still find several features useless or inefficient as many routine actions demand multiple steps. The overall experience doesn't feel fluid or quick as I end up wasting a lot of time waiting for screens to load and repeating the same manual steps. On top of that, some functions I'd assume would exist are missing which frustrates me. For example, there's no simple way to view charts that were created.

Familiar and perfectly laid out

Pros

Being used to Cerner, I really like it because the familiarity makes it simple to use. As I know where everything is and find the system user-friendly, so it's easy for me to explain where to find things since the layout is pretty perfect.

Cons

What frustrates me most is that I cannot run batch charges. In my department processing charges is tedious and takes forever which makes the workload heavier. I also don't like having to use a dual login as it just adds unnecessary steps.

Feels like it is stuck in the 1990s

Pros

As a newer healthcare worker, I really like the broad range of options in the dropdown menus. As they make finding suggestions much easier while I am learning the system.

Cons

I feel like the interface looks stuck in the late 1990s as it has virtually no visual polish. There are redundant places where I have to enter the same information which makes navigation confusing and ends up wasting my time.

detailed data but hard to navigate

Pros

What I find most appealing about Cerner is its data collection capabilities as I can capture a thoroughly detailed patient history that feels complete and reliable.

Cons

I have found it can be pretty hard to navigate the system and I often struggle when showing new users the ropes because teaching it is challenging.

Great charts and simple transfers

Pros

I really like the patient charts, the simple transfer lists, the way I can review Q.C and the pending items list.

Cons

In my experience, the reports lack sufficient detail and I have to open a ticket to get them changed which ends up taking a lot of time.

Cerner powerchart is easy

Pros

A very simple software to use and to chart. I have completely fallen for Cerner because it makes my life so easy. It has a great interface that helps me easily find anything that I need to find. I loved the fact that all the records I need can be opened on one click.

Cons

Constant repetition of charting on the power chart gets annoying to handle. Also often at times, the software makes it impossible to organize the names of patients. It can have a steep learning curve in the beginning but once you get used to it you realize that the system is pretty easy and intuitive. Perhaps, a bit more training needs to be done before completely relying on this software.

Integrates well and easy to navigate

Pros

Cerner's solutions integrate well with a wide range of other software and I often prefer their EHR offerings over competing systems. For me, PowerChart stands out as it is easy to use, much easier to navigate and far more neatly organized than other EHRs I have worked with.

Cons

Occasionally I notice that PowerChart doesn't render certain documents uploaded from external programs cleanly when I try to print them and the output can look distorted or misaligned compared to what I see on screen.

Well-organized and easy to find

Pros

I can keep charts, lab data and imaging results stored. It's well organized and information is easy to find.

Cons

My suggestion is that the chart interface should include more details, like patient lab results and medication lists, so I don't have to type them in.

Excellent for patient tracking

Pros

It is amazing in tracking all the patients, their history and their orders. The information is stored with all patient information along with the date on their time spent in the facility. As a radiologist assistant, my orders are perfectly organized always. I think I have found the best software for our practice and will happily recommend this to all.

Cons

When things get frantic such as when patients need their information as soon as possible, it gets difficult to manage them and search for on the spot. But Im sure with constant working I will master this software one day.

Full-featured for all faces

Pros

What I like is being able to click a tab to pull up a patient's records from both outpatient and inpatient faces. To me it's a full-featured EHR.

Cons

I wish the visual design were refreshed to feel somewhat more modern. I am only talking about the look, not criticizing the EHR's performance.

Massive time saver across departments

Pros

I have found Cerner can store and retrieve a huge amount of information and it shares that data smoothly across various departments. When we use it as an EMR, it saves an enormous amount of time compared to paper charting.

Cons

I will say the learning curve is fairly steep. Because the platform does so many things, there's a great deal to pick up before you feel really comfortable. What frustrates me most, though, is the post-go-live technical support. After we've launched there isn't a direct person I can call. Instead I am forced to submit tickets that seem to disappear unless I chase them. even when I follow up, solutions can take weeks to arrive for issues that feel like they should be fixed in five minutes by someone who knows what they're doing.

Handy tools but poor charting flow

Pros

I like the paste and copy tool and the nursing handoff section.

Cons

Charting fields don't flow well for a systems assessment, in my experience. Splitting IVs and patient education into different workflow sections makes me more likely to overlook important clinical details.

allows easy and simple patient charting

Pros

With Cerner Millennium, I find charting patient care easy and simple. Its forms follow a logical structure and the overall workflow feels very easy.

Cons

I struggle when adding new content as there are too many separate forms required for more complex or extended problems.

A one stop shop for patient care

Pros

My team and I could all use it to give patients the best care from front-desk staff who register patients and capture images of IDs or insurance cards, to clinicians who document care and store reports, to billing teams handling insurance checks or printing medical records. For medical workflows it really served as a one-stop shop.

Cons

I wasn't given any formal training as I figured everything out myself. That said it might have been a choice by the company rather than a fault of the software.

Great templates and diagnosis linking

Pros

I am really pleased that Cerner's updated dynamic documentation offers a range of templates and dot phrases and I appreciate being able to associate specific diagnoses with various medications.

Cons

As a medical scribe rather than a physician, I find it frustrating that the updated Dynamic Documentation won't let me change the note's author. After the doctor signs off on a chart I prepared for them, the record still displays my name as the signer which makes it look like I officially signed the note. Because of that, other clinicians cannot find the consult by searching the physician's name and instead have to look it up under me.

offer role-based, efficient care modules

Pros

From my experience, Cerner's suite outperforms Allscripts and epic for our needs. They provide distinct modules based on your role so you get tools that actually fit your job. PowerChart is the one I see most often, while FirstNet is used in the eR, SurgiNet handles surgical workflows and AppBar covers scheduling and registration. With Cerner, our staff can deliver care more efficiently as we track bed assignments, chart patients, manage medications and handle many other tasks.

Cons

I have noticed the application will quite often stop communicating with other systems and connected devices which can disrupt clinical workflows. Problems with the interface have occasionally interfered with patient care. On top of that, results from some medical devices sometimes don't make it into Cerner, leaving gaps in the record.
