easy and user-friendly charting system

Pros

I really like the way it handles charting. As this user friendly system used in hospitals is easy to follow and I found it doesn't take me long to become proficient.

Cons

When I cannot find an item, Cerner's system won't let me search directly for exactly what I am trying to locate which can be frustrating.

Pros

The layout is user-friendly. Cerner system allows me to conveniently keep an account of patient progress. Accessing reports is very simple.

Cons

The software can get very slow on some days. Resolving errors can be a time consuming and frustrating process. In case of input error on the patient’s charts, it can be difficult to fix.

More user-friendly than epic

Pros

Coming from epic at a previous job, I find Cerner much more user-friendly. After only one or two days of hands-on training with Cerner, I personally felt quite at ease navigating the system.

Cons

Personally, I am frustrated that Power Chart and Med Manager exist as separate applications. I wish there were a way to pull up the Power Chart details while I am verifying orders in Med Manager so I don't have to switch back and forth.

extremely user-friendly and customizable

Pros

I have found the charting system to be extremely user-friendly which helps me stay efficient when I am working in a high-pressure, fast-paced role. The individual fields are customizable and the overall layout makes it easy to navigate through a patient's chart. I can implement hard stops where needed and there are abundant sections for comments and free-text notes. It also supports communication with third-party software, such as Timeless and Phillips monitors.

Cons

I do notice a few minor features that could use improvement, for example the ability to bulk-populate and print specific subsets of data for several patients at once without having to open each individual chart. While the system is overall quite tech-savvy, I still find that there are a couple of areas where epic has an edge in functionality.

Incredibly handy for speedy notes

Pros

Powernote's speed and efficiency are incredibly handy for me. Rather than having to painstakingly edit each clinical note by hand every time, I can just click to insert preset phrases and then tweak them as needed.

Cons

There aren't quite enough choices available. I ran into a few restrictions about what I was able to include in my notes.

Review

Pros

It is an easy software to use, and I like the module that lets me add a consult note, and having parts of the history is great as well as it saves a lot of my time because it is automatically converted in my notes. It is pretty simple to use, and anyone can easily get used to it.

Cons

Ordering procedures is a bit complicated, as it does not allow you to specify the day on which you want to do the procedures. I have tried to find a way to do it, but couldnt find anything that would let me specify the day I want to do the procedures.

excellent with pre-populated dropdowns

Pros

As a clinician, I have found Cerner to be an excellent healthcare management system because it includes everything required for thorough assessments. The dropdowns with pre-populated descriptions let me chart much faster than those old 'fill-in-the-box' narrative fields. The real-time timestamp improves accuracy and the dashboard gives me a fast overview when things are hectic on the floor.

Cons

I wish Cerner offered more user-friendly, customizable choices for the home screen and added flexible 'other' fields across every assessment area so our staff could enter as much detailed information as necessary.

great icons and a alignd homepage

Pros

I find the icons very easy to get to and I like that the homepage keeps getting refreshed to make navigation more alignd and user-friendly.

Cons

Whenever my employer rearranges the icon bar, I end up struggling to locate items and it makes my workflow more frustrating.

Happy with Functionality

Pros

Cerner was introduced to us by a sales team who were very knowledgeable and friendly. It seems their friendliness also translated into the software as we find their product equally friendly to use. I absolutely love the sleek interface it gives us. I would recommend this software to others.

Cons

What I have noticed after using it is that it keeps on updating with a bombardment of inconsistent options and then you end up learning them again from scratch. The whole process of updates and then training becomes tiring and I really would want them to be consistent now.

Fast notes with dragon integration

Pros

In a clinical setting, I can crank out notes quickly as the system pulls real-time updates straight into the note automatically which has saved me a ton of time compared to my previous dictating process. Plus, the Dragon integration works really well.

Cons

There are too many clicks involved for example, I find myself repeatedly refreshing the screen which gets annoying and slows me down.

3.0

Visually appealing but overly complex

Pros

I find Cerner to be quite visually appealing. I can personalize my home page by changing colors and arranging the layout so that what's most important to me is front and center. When I want to chart on a patient in my unit I can set a relationship with them, while other patients stay greyed out that visual cue really helps me concentrate on the people who are actually on my workload for that particular shift. I appreciate having a dock or table of contents constantly visible inside each chart because if I am unsure where a particular item lives I can quickly skim the dock and find it. That same feature also helps me confirm that I have documented everything I need to. There's also an 'other' option, the ability to add comments and a way to flag specific entries I have made which I find useful. The drop-down menus for most charting items including activity levels such as bed rest, up to wheelchair, bedside toileting and so on are very thorough but I still value the chance to write a comment when something needs extra clarification related to activity or any other charted item.

Cons

In my experience Cerner can feel overwhelmingly complex because an electronic health record has to house a huge amount of data. That means it can sometimes be hard to track down specific items when the same information is stored in more than one place. For example, seizure events may be recorded under the neurological subsection and also under an 'ad hoc' area. My unit has faceed problems when a single nurse charted seizures only in the neurological Quick View rather than entering them in both Quick View and ad hoc which resulted in us missing a patient's seizure history. We've had to use our morning huddle to make it clear where we prefer to chart particular pieces of information whenever the system allows multiple locations, so we don't overlook important details.

Pros

What I appreciate about Cerner is its ability to store and share a huge amount of information.

Cons

Honestly I find it frustratingly slow and the way information is arranged feels chaotic. They really need to align many of the broad categories.

Offers several cool services, however, not as advanced as some rivals

Pros

Powerchart has a number of great functionalities to offer, though it lacks in comparison to some of the competitors I have former experience with. The charting features are very intuitive and provide great ease. It is user-friendly and offers flow sheets which make it all more convenient to locate and operate with data.

Cons

The entire double charting feature requires improvements as it can be tricky to work around. Few other functions are also a tad outdated.

Cerner is by far the easiest, most user friendly EMR available

Pros

The best part about Cerner is that it is easy to learn and requires minimal maintenance once set up. At least for us, weve never had a lot of difficulty in training new staff on the application and the response weve received from the physicians using it is mostly positive. One needs minimal maintenance with Cerner. It is a blessing for our organization and I can’t imagine a world without it, to be honest.

Cons

Cerner can have downtimes and when it does it is not restricted to a single user but all our centers using the system. We virtually become dysfunctional when this happens. They should try having better backups and data servers.

User-friendly with powerful search

Pros

Having worked with several EHR platforms such as epic, NextGen and Cerner, I have found this one to be quite user?friendly and generally more easy to use, with fewer clicks than epic. Searching within it allows me to enter keywords and pull up every document tied to that term which I really like. Tasks such as patient registration feel on par with epic and are similarly efficient in most respects.

Cons

My personal leaning is toward epic when it comes to capabilities and data-sharing but I still think Cerner holds its own. It matches epic in many ways and even offers several standout features that elevate it to an excellent EHR solution overall.

A major and modern upgrade

Pros

Moving to Cerner felt like a major upgrade compared to our previous system. Once my team and I got past the initial learning curve, it offered a modern and user-friendly platform that was easy to navigate for a hospital employing over 2,000 people. I also liked that there were multiple ways to accomplish a task in this tool which suited different learning preferences across the staff.

Cons

During the first six months we used it, I noticed the system crashed far more often than I expected or felt was acceptable. Those outages caused delays across many departments, set teams back and made routine work harder than it needed to be.

frequent glitches and noticeable lag

Pros

What I found most valuable about this program was being able to pull up a patients full history with a single click which saved me time and made chart review issue free.

Cons

Most of the time when we used this particular software we ran into frequent glitches and noticeable lag in processing orders on the machine and the page layout felt out of order and needed reorganizing. Overall it made our workflow inefficient and clunky.
