Far-reaching, consistent EHR programming

Pros

Cerner makes putting together meaningful documentation generally hassle-free and straightforward. Easy to use and simple to learn in under seven days. numerous alternatives accessible. Super easy charting. Everything is organized into categories and sub-categories which makes data locating very quick.

Cons

Charting could be made more instinctive as a lot of my charting requires too many unnecessary steps to get the end result. The software often halts or crashes and I have to reopen and repeat all unsaved progress.

Clean design for staff communication

Pros

I am impressed by the clean, sharp design and all of the features let us communicate well among staff.

Cons

There is too much customization available. I can personalize the screen almost any way I want which on one hand might seem good but when I am giving tutorials or trying to learn the system it becomes a real pain because everyone's layout ends up different and causes unnecessary confusion. I am looking for a simpler, more consistent interface that makes teaching and learning easier.

really user-friendly for nine years

Pros

I have found it really user-friendly. I have used Cerner for nine years and haven't run into any major problems. Also, I can search Cerner for specific items I need without any trouble.

Cons

The only issue I run into is that since it's not a universal EMR, I cannot access other providers' systems to look up patient information when I need to.

Simple charting with quick lookup

Pros

I really like the dashboard display as the charting is simple and looking up materials is quick and easy.

Cons

Unfortunately, I cannot open more than two patient tabs at one time which interrupts my workflow.

provides quick updates and easy corrections

Pros

I have found the system applies updates quickly and makes correcting mistakes pretty easy. Also it is simple to edit entries when something is wrong and there are several sorting options that make pulling up data fast and issue-free.

Cons

Sometimes information I previously entered doesn't carry over to the following form and I have noticed this inconsistency can slow down my workflow.

Offers great rep support for our build

Pros

As a member of the team that built the notes currently used in our hospital's Cerner EMR, I helped shape how information is captured. The Cerner reps supported us through the build, worked to incorporate our requirements and helped convert several of our paper forms into functional components inside the live EMR.

Cons

I find that some of the workarounds are hard to spot and things that should be simpler often get made unnecessarily complex. After we've identified and sent various issues to Cerner looking for fixes, we're frequently told there's no way to resolve a particular problem yet I see other Cerner users posting solutions in forums that seem to address the exact same issues.

A full-featured and highly adaptable emr

Pros

I find it to be a full-featured EMR that's highly adaptable and I can customize it to match my unit or facility's needs.

Cons

it isn't as user-friendly as I find it somewhat harder to use than many other systems I have worked with.

Really easy to use interface

Pros

It is really easy to use. Plus the interface is user friendly and provides everything our team needs.

Cons

During my overnight shifts it seems to go down constantly for updates and that happens most often when I am working.

Fast data access, clunky documentation

Pros

My Surginet PACU module lets me pull prior face data quickly and offers periop tracking.

Cons

documenting in iView flowsheets is not keyboard-friendly, forcing too many clicks and saves when moving through flowsheets and slowing down proficient providers who are keyboard savvy. The chart finalization process should be a pop-out window that is clear and concise. Overall, the interface is flat and key items aren't visible.

The easiest emr i've faceed

Pros

This is the easiest EMR I have faceed. With basics down I deduce fairly easily how to use other features.

Cons

When I search in the orders section I quite often need to be extremely specific and I frequently struggle to locate what I am looking for.

4.0

Customizable for any care setting

Pros

I really like is that the system lets me customize workflows and create reusable templates and I can use it equally well for inpatient or outpatient care. Overall, I have found the support to be solid.

Cons

I am frustrated that I cannot share templates with other users unless the change is applied system-wide and sometimes it's easy to end up documenting under the wrong face or FIN. the software and its support are pricey and relying on electronic records can slow my productivity down.

causes too much frustration

Pros

the customer support team is consistently helpful and genuinely knowledgeable.

Cons

Most parts of the platform frustrate me as it's clunky and consistently slows my workflow. Navigating to clinical data takes forever, so pulling up what I need in a timely manner is a real challenge. The default fonts are tiny and the whole interface feels so crowded that the actual usable workspace gets squeezed into a small central area of the screen. On top of that, entering basic information requires way too many clicks and composing even a simple note forces you through excessive navigation steps.

Centralized info but hard to use

Pros

I have access to all my patients' information in a single, centralized place.

Cons

Sometimes I struggle to navigate it because it's not user friendly. My notes don't carry over from day to day very well which makes it hard for me to track progress.

Less than 6 months

5.0

quite ideal for documentation

Pros

Cerner makes producing patient documentation fairly easy and simple. I was able to get comfortable with it in under a week because it is user-friendly. Plus there are plenty of configuration options. It also helps me pinpoint the key treatment areas that insurers look for in documentation.

Cons

In my experience, most of my charting still requires excessive clicking before I can reach the information I need. Instead of saving time, I frequently find myself having to repeat, at the end, everything I already marked in the checkboxes which increases the total time required to complete documentation.

Pros

I have used Cerner's PowerChart alongside FirstNet and I prefer PowerChart over FirstNet because it's much easier to navigate and use.

Cons
