Simple and easy to understand

Pros

I have found Cerner to be very simple and easy to understand, enabling people who have never used it before to operate it without any hassle.

Cons

In my experience, Cerner tends to tuck items away inside folders and different sections which makes it more difficult for me to locate patient information.

3.0

deep and informative but occasionally unstable

Pros

Working as a medical scribe in an emergency room, I am extremely familiar with the many facets of Cerner. Over the past three years I have poured countless hours into building long, detailed notes in Cerner. What I value most about it is the depth of information it stores as it's not limited to a patient's last eR visit but also pulls up prior hospital admissions and any hospital-affiliated urgent care encounters. The system can automatically bring in a lot of relevant data with minimal effort from whoever is charting, including PMHx, FHx, current medications, allergies and all diagnostic tests performed during the eR stay. Labels are clear and organized and once I have gotten comfortable navigating the platform it only takes seconds to find a particular piece of patient information. That efficiency has been a real time-saver on busy shifts.

Cons

It does have its finicky moments when Cerner will randomly crash like more often than not if a document was saved within the prior two minutes it comes back exactly as it was with no information missing. While the system tends to go down at least once during a shift, I have never actually lost a chart because of it or been forced to rebuild the notes I had already written.

easy charting with a clear layout

Pros

For me, charting is pretty easy and the layout makes it easy to go through patient history, vital signs, notes and similar records.

Cons

I often find there are too many spots where identical information can be entered which makes locating specific details frustrating and time-consuming.

Use it daily but includes too many clicks

Pros

At the hospital where I work, I use Cerner daily. It is the system we rely on for entering orders, documenting patient histories and recording physicians notes.

Cons

I don't like that using it involves so many clicks. Although I have become accustomed to that rhythm, I feel there could be more efficient shortcuts tailored to how frequently we use the program.

By far, the best EMR I have ever used

Pros

Navigating through the EMR is a breeze, making it my preferred choice among the EMRs I've used.

3.0

User-friendly but feels antiquated

Pros

I have gone back to this software from time to time while I was in med school and most of the time I found it lagging behind other medical record systems like epic. That said, I do think it is fairly user friendly because it has fewer features it's often simpler to pick up and use for basic tasks which made learning it less painful for me.

Cons

To be honest, I feel it's become pretty antiquated and doesn't measure up to the modern electronic medical record systems out there. I notice it lacks important functionality and, in my experience, the support has been weak which makes it feel subpar compared with other options.

Transparent and easy to use

Pros

Cerner feels transparent enough that nothing's too difficult to work out. I can find patients quickly, write clinic notes without trouble and view past records with consistent ease every time for me.

Cons

Only up to 500 records are visible before older entries begin to vanish and I dislike that limitation. Also, locating specific documents can be tricky, so adding a search box inside the records would make navigation much easier.

excellent compatibility and integrations

Pros

One thing I really love about Cerner EHR is its excellent interoperability and the wide range of integrations is truly impressive for hospital health management functionality, making it easily one of my favorite features.

Cons

What bothers me is having to log in separately to each individual program within the system. So I wish they would implement a single, unified sign-in so I don't have to enter my credentials repeatedly across every module.

Clean, user-friendly oncology view

Pros

Cerner is really easy to use and very user friendly. Plus its oncology view is clean and simple which makes keeping track of patients extremely easy for me.

Cons

Sometimes Cerner won't let me print pages exactly when I need them and that really frustrates me.

4.0

Familiar and flexible for nursing care

Pros

I jabe used three different charting platforms in my nursing career and this one landed squarely in the middle for me. It feels a lot like Microsoft Word which I already knew well, so picking up the interface, shortcuts and general workflow was pretty easy. There are numerous choices for documenting care, letting me be very specific when needed. Much of the documentation relies on free text entry which can be both helpful and limiting depending on the situation. What I really like is that it automatically totals intake and output, including all medications running at the documented infusion rates which saves a lot of manual calculation.

Cons

At times the workflow forced me through more steps than seemed necessary, making simple tasks feel complex. There were also occasions when physicians couldn't view everything nurses could, so some of our documentation didn't appear on their end. Overall, I felt the system could be needlessly complex in places and could benefit from simplification.
