This round of Accutane was much more manageable than my first and because the dosage was handled correctly, it should thankfully be my last. Being able to do the monthly check-ins and pregnancy tests from home saved me a ton of time and energy since I didn't have to go into the office every month. The only slight downside was that the visits were done entirely through written communication instead of telemedicine video so asking questions or explaining things would have felt a bit more natural verbally. It would also help if the monthly scheduling matched up better with when the prescription could actually be filled. A lot of times I was told to book my follow-up but it ended up being too early for insurance to cover the medication which then created issues with the pickup window too. Aside from those minor inconveniences, it was a really positive experience and I'm happy to say my skin is now completely clear and healed.

Written communication can feel a little less convenient than a video visit and the scheduling would be better if it lined up more closely with prescription timing.

After trying everything from creams to spironolactone, Accutane was the one that truly made a difference. My acne is completely gone. I completed the full 8-month dose and now I've been acne-free for 6 months. It's been amazing.

Getting Accutane through this tool worked out really well for me especially because they allowed me to continue treatment without birth control since I am abstinent. A local dermatologist had refused to prescribe it because I did not want long-acting contraception. I also ended up paying less for lab work out of pocket than I would have through insurance which was a nice surprise. Their dermatologist was responsive and also prescribed tretinoin for after Accutane since I had already been using it before. They answered quickly whenever I had questions. Accutane has honestly transformed my acne journey and has cleared it up so far and I am very happy with the results. I was able to reach a total cumulative dose of 150 mg/kg. The only downside during treatment was dealing with a lot of side effects, including severely dry lips with constant peeling, dry eyes, nasal dryness and peeling inside my nose, dry scalp, joint pain in my knees and back, increased sun sensitivity, an eczema flare, keratosis pilaris on both arms, heel pain that may have been a bone bruise or plantar fasciitis and hypertriglyceridemia. Now that I have finished treatment, most of those side effects have gone away.

I dealt with quite a few side effects from the medication during treatment but thankfully most of them improved after I finished.
