great for patient care quality

Pros

I really like being able to manage my patients care properly while also helping to raise the overall quality of care they receive.

Cons

The Crystal reports could use work because they sometimes run slowly when pulling up information which can be frustrating.

friendly reporting and sharing

Pros

This software feels very user friendly. I especially like the reporting features creating reports is simple and sharing them with others is just as painless.

Cons

A few data points can be read in different ways because NextGen offers multiple date options. For instance, you may be looking at transaction dates, dates of service or dates of entry and it's easy for the numbers to be interpreted differently depending on which date field is selected.

medical billing is no big deal now

Pros

It is very easy to use and is designed in a user-friendly way. I mainly enjoyed using the reporting function and found it pretty easy to create and share reports.

Cons

There are just too many date options which can lead to misunderstanding regarding some of the data. For example, there are transaction dates, dates of service, and dates of entry.

Doesn't take long to learn it

Pros

I think the best thing about it is the ease of use it offers. You can learn it pretty quickly because it is highly adaptable.

Cons

Honestly, there's nothing that I hate or dislike about it.

Convenient to use

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how fast I can complete patient notes right while I'm doing the exam.

Cons

The only snag shows up after system upgrades or maintenance done over the weekend. When we come back on Monday, it can be hit or miss sometimes the system feels sluggish and the screen can freeze for a bit. The latest weekend maintenance caused problems too but it did get fixed by Monday, even if it meant a few delays getting back up to speed.

Nextgen is still the best at what it does

Pros

One of NextGen's strengths is that I can easily complete patient notes during examinations without wasting time.

Cons

The only downside I've faced is related to system upgrades or maintenance performed over weekends. This occasionally leads to issues like slowness and screen freezes when we return to work on Mondays. The most recent incident occurred this past weekend but was eventually resolved on Monday, although it caused some delays.

It has some great tools!

Pros

Some of my favorite features in NextGen are the tools for scheduling, charting, billing, and reporting they're very efficient and user-friendly which makes a big difference in my workflow. Scheduling is so easy because I can see all appointments at a glance, adjust times, and even set up recurring visits for patients who need regular follow-ups. The charting feature is also great because it lets me quickly document patient information with easy access to templates that suit different types of visits. Billing and reporting are sorted too and I can manage financial tasks without having to jump through hoops. Plus, the customization options allow me to fine-tune everything to my liking, which makes the platform feel like it's built specifically for our practice. Overall, it's been a great fit for us.

Cons

It takes some time to completely understand this system. I also find the pricing to be a bit on the higher side. Lastly, I sometimes get disappointed in the performance.

strong EHR billing workflow

Pros

Compared with other software I've used so far, the features I really like are downloading medical records, submitting claims and posting payments and denials right from the EHR tab. The product is genuinely user friendly it only took me a few days to get comfortable with the interface and nothing feels confusing. It's a solid tool for the medical billing space. I use it every day for different claim related tasks especially since I handle AR calls and our team's job is to process rejected claims. It definitely makes the day to day work easier for us.

Cons

So far, I haven't run into any drawbacks while using it.

works really well

Pros

Practice Management has been excellent since we run two locations, it's really helpful to view both schedules without any hassle. The offices are separate but the layout makes it easy to switch between them and see everything at a glance.

Cons

Lately it's been a bit buggy and the server hasn't been stable which sometimes leads to slowdowns. That said, it feels like the kind of issue that can be addressed and improved over time.

Streamlines management!

Pros

The Practice Management features in NextGen are excellent. With two locations, I can easily view both schedules without too much work. Despite the offices being separate, NextGen makes it simple to manage.

Cons

Lately, I've been experiencing some bugs with the software, and the server hasn't been stable, resulting in slowdowns. However, I believe these issues can be fixed and improved in the future.

highly customizable

Pros

It's a strong platform for processing charges and taking payments. Everything is fully customizable to match how you run billing. Charging is simple you can reorganize codes right from your billing screen and handle co payments at the same time.

Cons

Update quality control and implementation consistency isn't always as reliable as I'd expect and it happens more often than it should.

auto-renewal save time

Pros

There isn't much to be positive here the software didn't win me over. We moved away from server based NexGen to MediTouch/Healthfusion back in 2013 but the situation got even worse when NextGen ended up buying the company.

Cons

Overall, the software functions but the yearly auto renewal contracts are a big headache. Even after we attempted to cancel the RCM part about a month before it was scheduled to renew and even though the Go Live date was actually two months after the notification they kept coming up with excuses to avoid honoring the cancellation. First they claimed we didn't cancel, then that we didn't cancel it with Clinic Anywhere and later that the balance had to be brought up to date before they'd process the request. At the same time, their collections performance and billing knowledge were costing us money so it was frustrating to deal with all the runaround instead of a simple cancellation. I'm not going into the specific billing problems here but it felt like the people handling billing were consistently getting things wrong any competent biller should have caught those issues. It's the kind of problem you often see with overseas outsourcing. After 10 years, we finally walked away because the negotiations around removing the RCM portion of the contract were unreasonable.

Awesome!!

Pros

The app feels really easy to use and the toggle option is super handy. Teaching using this feature has been simple as well and it makes explaining things to others a lot less stressful.

Cons

Nothing negative to mention right now hopefully I won't ever need to change anything.

NextGen Healthcare is best for billing

Pros

NextGen is a fantastic platform for processing charges and payments. It offers full customization to meet your specific needs. I also like the convenience of charging, reorganizing codes directly on the billing screen and accepting co-payments side by side.

Cons

I have noticed that the consistency of quality control in updates or implementation is not as good as it should be. This seems to be somewhat common.

Worst RCM and Customer Service

Pros

Unfortunately, I didn't like NextGen. We switched from server-based NexGen to MediTouch/Healthfusion in 2013, and later NextGen acquired the company.

Cons

In general, the software works fine. However, I have an issue with the companys practice of forcing customers into yearly auto-renew contracts. Even when we tried to cancel the RCM company a month before the service was set to renew (even though the Go Live date was two months after notification), they gave excuses to avoid cancellation. First, they claimed we didn't cancel. Then, they said we didn't cancel with Clinic Anywhere. Later, they insisted that the balance needed to be up to date before they would cancel. Its worth mentioning that we were losing money due to their poor collections and lack of billing knowledge. I won't go into the specific billing issues here, but any experienced biller would know what they were doing wrong. This is a consequence of overseas outsourcing. After 10 years, we decided to walk away from the company due to their unreasonable negotiation regarding dropping the RCM portion of the contract.

user-friendly tool

Pros

NextGen is, hands down, one of the simplest EHR platforms I've used. The interface feels extremely user friendly and doesn't require much jumping around to figure out what to do. A standout feature is the ability to control access and permissions for every user based on their role and specific responsibilities.

Cons

The clipboard drag and drop for appointments is really convenient but I do wish it reflected the change directly in the patient chart showing that the original appointment was moved. This doesn't happen constantly but it does occur often enough that it'd be nice to have a clear note indicating the appointment was relocated. Also, the patient portal and documents still need improvement since they don't consistently reach their full intended functionality.

Not perfect but works

Pros

NextGen Office software provides a comprehensive suite of customizable features, ranging from appointment scheduling to billing and revenue cycle management. It delivers consistent and efficient practice management, seamlessly integrating check-in, billing, collections and AR processes. The transition between Practice Management and EHR is smooth which eventually enhance overall usability.

Cons

Over time, I've noticed that NextGen Office's EHR has become increasingly disorganized. It lacks major bug fixes and fails to address user-requested improvements. I believe it needs streamlined features such as automated filtering for unpaid claims and easier claim attachment and review processes. The systems layout design with excessive tabs, scrolling, and button-clicking is inefficient and doesn't make the best use of screen space.
