Beginner-friendly software for optical practice

Pros

The speed and simplicity of the site stood out to me. It makes handling scheduling and all the important patient information really convenient and for an optical practice, it has been the best system to use.

Cons

My only complaint is that it occasionally slows down although most of the time it runs really well. I also appreciate how beginner-friendly it is.

billing support that keeps us going

Pros

Everyone at the Eye Center of the Dakotas wanted to give a shout-out to our fantastic RevCycle biller! We really appreciate what a wonderful person she is and the excellent work she does to keep all of our billing operations running smoothly. We noticed there was a chance to submit a story or share feedback but we weren't quite sure of the right way to answer so we're hoping this message reaches the right place.

Cons

There really aren't any major concerns, aside from the occasional downtime when the system goes down. The pop-up windows in the upper-right corner also tend to cover other information pretty often which makes it a little complex.

Pros

Everything about the workflows feels practical and user-friendly, like it was built by people who truly understand day-to-day clinical work. The interface adjusts really well across all the different screen sizes and formats we use, both inside the clinic and on the go. Integrations with RevIntake and RevPayments have saved our staff a huge amount of time, cut down on frustration and made things noticeably better for patients too. Best of all, the platform continues to improve year after year.

Cons

There was quite a bit of downtime during 2025 although that seems to have been resolved now after the move to a more reliable AWS server.

organized optical workflow

Pros

Keeping eyewear orders organized is one of the biggest strengths of Revolution EHR. It makes it simple to look back at previous glasses and contact lens orders whenever needed. There's room for notes, measurements, tracking numbers, shipping destinations and plenty of other details which helps a lot with work. RevEHR also makes it very convenient to monitor current glasses inventory and see what has sold recently. That's especially helpful when reps come by and it's time to place new stock orders. Our optical workflow stays very well organized because of it.

Cons

My only real complaint is that I can't add certain glasses option drop-downs unless I use the "change" button. The frustrating part is that doing that makes me go back and mark the charges as non-billable again.

Tailored for eye care

Pros

Built specifically for optometry, this system follows the way eye exams actually happen so the workflow feels user-friendly and natural. It never comes across like a general medical EHR that was simply adapted for eye care.

Cons

One thing that slows me down is how click-heavy it can be. Jumping between different parts of an exam usually takes several clicks and that starts to feel tedious when the clinic gets busy.

Everything about it is pretty good

Pros

We generally find that REvolution EHR is simple for new employees to learn. The training videos are quite helpful as well.

Cons

The recent changes to the accounting screen are confusing and frustrating and customer service was not very helpful.

Works amazingly!

Pros

One thing I love is the feature that pulls up previous information for past patients. Plus it saves so much time for those who are established patients.

Cons

Very easy to start using it

Pros

RevolutionEHR software is simple to use, offers an eRx platform and is easy to make the office paperless. Also it is very optometry-friendly. The initial setup was simple too and billing per doctor instead of user is great if you have part-time staff. Plus since it is browser-based I can access it from any computer with internet as no app needed.

Cons

The price seems quite high to me and sometimes the system goes down but it's not frequent.

Getting better over time

Pros

What I like most is how easy it is to track my practices metrics and create custom reports. This EHR excels in letting me analyze product sales like glasses, contact lenses and services such as exams and fittings. While I expect my EHR to help with patient documentation, its integration with optical, insurance and medication systems is really impressive.

Cons

What I dislike the most about it is that for each component of a patient's eye exam, there is no free type option only drop-down selections. It would be great to have both a drop-down and free-type option for each exam component not just a general free-type section.

I am a satisfied user

Pros

The simplicity of record-keeping and coordination is a big plus. Also I like that patients can easily request any needed information.

Cons

Really like it!

Pros

I have always liked many features of Rev but RevConnect is one I particularly love. It is so user-friendly and patients are happy with it.

Cons

It occasionally moves slowly or lags. It does not happen often but when it does it makes it difficult for us to check in or check out a patient.

Everything went well

Pros

RevEHR is user friendly and easy to navigate. Even with our fast-paced front desk, our staff can quickly move through multiple workflows and get patients scheduled with ease.

Cons

Hoping for better updates

Pros

I love that I can handle everything from exams and optical to scheduling and billing in one place. Also it is well-known so many people already know how to use it. The integrations with SmartFlow, Weave and Visionweb are great too. And once you realize the green plus button works on multiple levels, it's smooth sailing.

Cons

Requests for new features often feel ignored as we have asked for small changes but never get updates on why they are not added. I would like to customize the orders page since it still shows outdated lens data and I would like to replace the empty 12th spot on the patient page with Referrals. The schedule should also default to the calendar, not the agenda. Printing reminders onto cards is difficult and the new RevIntake forms are worse than paper. They are hard to read, patients struggle to finish them in 20 minutes and I need them available in Spanish. Medication searches are also tough. On top of that my barcode printer won't align as Rev says it's a hardware problem, Datamax says it's software. Overall these issues make the system harder to use than it should be.

I AM IMPRESSED!

Pros

This software is seriously cutting-edge. The new features they're adding are going to make things run so much smoother for both me and my patients. I'm really impressed with what they're doing.

Cons

Honestly, I don't really have any cons. My only hope is that the awesome customer service team gets enough staff scheduled so they can keep helping everyone quickly. Also I really wish EyeMed and VSP would accept electronic billing from RevClear. It's pretty ridiculous that Luxottica is blocking this. I think RevolutionEHR should really push them to fix this ASAP.

Easy to use and reliable!!

Pros

I have used a lot of different EHRs and Revolution EHR is by far the easiest to use. It hardly ever glitches and if there is a problem, their team fixes it super fast. I also love that they're always making the product better and actually listen to our suggestions for new features.

Cons

I can't think of anything bad right now. If I ever do have an issue, it's always super small and I forget about it pretty quickly anyway.

The "Best" of the Worst

Pros

Since I started using this software, I haven't seen a single improvement that the doctors actually asked for. It still takes way too many clicks to get through screens and the layouts are clunky for almost every patient visit.

Cons

I'm getting really frustrated with all the price increases and the fact that the main product isn't really getting any better. Instead, they keep adding these paid services that nobody asked for. Honestly I think it's the best of the bad EHR options out there. It could be the top system for optometry if they just fixed a dozen or so coding issues which probably wouldn't even take that long.

Not happy at all:(

Pros

I used to have no problems with RevolutionEHR but ever since they teamed up with ChiroTouch, the service just hasn't been as good.

Cons

Dealing with customer service and managing clients when trying to use RevBilling and RevClear has been a nightmare. Choosing RevBilling was the worst business decision I've ever made; the service feels fraudulent.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

Seven years of great teamwork

Pros

Overall I am super pleased that we decided to stick with Revolution for our practice. We've been using it for 7 years and I really appreciate the hands-on service. Knowing that they're always working on improvements behind the scenes feels like a real compliment to us as users and shows great teamwork from them.

Cons

I absolutely hate the tax issues when I'm trying to check a patient out! It's mostly a problem when I'm using insurance and billing and it's a real trouble

As close to EHR perfection as it gets

Pros

Honestly this is about as perfect as an EHR can get. The only tiny thing is that in New Jersey, the prescriptions print a little weird because Google Chrome keeps updating and messing with the print preview.

Cons

It was useful right from the start and not hard to set up at all. I've only had to call customer service a few times to walk me through some insurance posting stuff.

trapped by a system of workarounds

Pros

They need to start listening to what the doctors are asking for! Stop just offering new features that cost extra. Why would I pay for an add-on when the basic product still needs work? and they should personally call us back to talk, not just send out surveys.

Cons

It gets the job done but I have to use a ton of workarounds just to get through the day. The worst part is feeling stuck with them now because they hold all of our data.

Loses my data and very slow

Pros

Sometimes it just loses or messes up my data. I find myself having to triple-check things that should be automated which shouldn't happen.

Cons

It feels cumbersome to use and it seems like the company doesn't really listen to our feedback. Any improvements they do make take forever to actually happen.

manages your entire practice!

Pros

I love that I can check my charts from anywhere. If I'm on vacation, I can quickly peek in on my practice and make changes if I need to. Taking payments, doing exams, following trends and managing patients are all in one easy system. The team is always adding new, helpful improvements to keep up with what we need.

Cons

The mobile app is very limited. I even got a Samsung Fold to have a bigger screen on the go and it's still not great.

Easy to use but needs training

Pros

It's the best EHR I've used so far. It's very easy to find your way around and there are often a few different ways to get the same task done.

Cons

I wish there was more hands-on training for how to use RevolutionEHR to its full potential. The videos are okay but I'd really like to talk to an actual person especially when you're first setting up. Maybe even a check-in once or twice a year after that.
