“Compliance tracking done right”

Pros

It does a solid job of helping teams keep track of training, protocols and regulatory requirements which really helps cut down on compliance gaps. Once everything is set up, it feels fairly user-friendly for researchers and lab staff to use in their day-to-day work.

Cons

The pricing can be a challenge especially for smaller labs or projects working with tighter budgets. It can also feel a bit limiting for labs that rely on highly customized workflows.

“Excellent for keeping track of samples”

Pros

Managing inventory with it has been a really positive experience especially for keeping track of samples. Uploading and organizing everything is very simple which is especially helpful when you're handling multiple studies with a large number of samples.

Cons

The platform is quite expensive so it may be out of reach for smaller labs. Getting everything set up also takes some time since there's a fair bit of planning involved upfront.

“essential for our operations”

Pros

Keeping track of a large stock of samples and reagents used to be difficult but that changed once we brought in this tool. The barcode printing and scanning features have made our process much more efficient while cutting down on manual mistakes. I especially appreciate how inventory connects directly with our experiments and protocols so everything stays organized and is easy to find when needed. The eLabNext team was incredibly supportive throughout onboarding which made the transition feel smooth and low-stress. At this point, the platform is an essential part of how our lab operates.

Cons

Honestly, we have not had any negative experiences with this software or its team.

“Low-quality system”

Pros

It's lightweight, covers only the most basic functions and at least allows training data to be uploaded.

Cons

It is a very low-quality chemical inventory management system for labs, industries and organizations that need reliable tracking of hazardous materials, hazards and safety information. It does not support regulatory compliance well because it can't generate detailed reports, track expiration dates properly or help ensure correct storage practices. It also lacks integration with other critical systems and safety compliance databases. The menus are poorly designed, the controls are not user-friendly and the whole platform feels outdated and complex. There's no real connection to safety data sheets beyond a Google search link, no SDS library management and the only export is a basic CSV made from whatever each lab manually entered. It also does not provide chemical data in a usable database format with hazard classes, GHS codes, pictograms, proper cabinet or container storage details or sortable queries by meaningful criteria. On top of that, the system has bugs sometimes fails to save data and often throws errors when trying to add chemicals. It gives the impression that the developers are not focused on delivering a dependable product. Customer support makes the experience even worse. Concerns are not taken seriously, feedback is not welcomed and the technical representative was dismissive, unhelpful and seemed to lack even basic knowledge of the software and the issue. There were also no return calls and poor phone menu support. Universities should be putting money into systems that improve accuracy, safety and long-term efficiency and this is not one of them.

Getting this ELN up and running was simple and using it day to day has been very simple. The customer support team has also been excellent.

Cons

At the moment, our internal servers are not connected to the ELN.

“Setup held back by peripherals”

Pros

Haven't had the chance to use it fully yet since a lot of time has gone into getting the infrastructure in place. It would help if their team had a clearer understanding of the peripherals and other equipment needed to start using the software properly and get the most out of it.

Cons

Setup has been very slow although that's mostly down to limited internal resources rather than the product itself. That said, Eppendorf could help by offering printers, labels and similar essentials so users have everything they need to implement the software more effectively.

“Improved communication across departments”

Pros

Switching to it has helped us move away from paper-based experiments entirely. Rather than keeping experiment data and sample results in separate places, everything now lives in one digital repository which has also cut down on all the back-and-forth emails to share results. The sample Audit Trail works very well and it's very simple to track which samples were used in a specific experiment. Using QR codes for sample reception has made that whole process much simpler for Viralgen. Data ingestion from third-party software through the API is fairly simple and the API also makes integration with other external applications possible, including SAP in our case. On top of that, implementing it has improved communication across laboratories and departments.

Cons

Coming from a paper-based way of working, the amount of time required to digitize experiments in it is quite significant. We also feel the platform could use better filtering options for Projects, Studies and Experiments.

“Helps me keep track of sample usage”

Pros

I like that it helps me keep track of sample usage and where everything moves throughout the lab which has been really useful for staying organized.

Cons

The printing side could use some improvement. We use a Brady BBP12 and it doesn't have direct support at the moment. Ideally, I'd love to see a built-in WYSIWYG label designer included in the software.

“Fantastic searchable inventory”

Pros

Having an electronic lab notebook has been really valuable. The searchable inventory is especially fantastic and it's something I end up using every single day.

Cons

It definitely took some time to learn and get comfortable with and because of that I still feel like I'm not fully taking advantage of everything the platform has to offer.
