“amazing APIs, confusing setup”
Pros
My experience with Business Central was mostly from the integration side, using its APIs rather than spending time in the actual interface. A lot of the standard entities are available through REST and OData which meant I could read and update records without having to wait for someone to create a custom endpoint. Authentication is handled through the usual Microsoft identity model so there was no extra credential system to manage. The sandbox environments were also very useful for testing since I could break things safely in a copy without risking live company data. On top of that the data returned through the API lined up with what appeared in the ledger so I was not stuck reconciling mismatched versions of the same record.
Cons
Using the web client is where things got frustrating. Opening a list, applying filters and then drilling into a record all trigger separate page loads and once the tables get large, the delay is long enough to break your focus. Then there is the learning curve. A lot of the underlying logic comes from NAV and the terminology is not self-explanatory at all such as posting groups, dimensions and all the rules around when a document is actually allowed to post. If you do not have someone around who already understands the system, the first few weeks can easily turn into digging through forums just to figure out why something was rejected. That same confusion carries over to the API layer too. Standard APIs, custom APIs and OData endpoints overlap, the documentation is split across different places and figuring out which option was the right fit for a specific entity ended up being mostly trial and error.

Pros
One thing I really like is how well it integrates with Excel, Teams and Outlook. The built-in AI is a nice bonus and being cloud based means I can get to it from anywhere which has been really convenient.
Cons
At the beginning of this role I didn't have the correct license to access the platform so I had to work with IT to get that sorted out.

Using this software day to day is easy to navigate and the overall value and quality make it really worthwhile for both personal and business use.
Cons
The part I like least is dealing with the connection issues and bugs that tend to show up from time to time.
