“built-in support but limited”
Pros
There was plenty of built-in support and guidance so keeping the system running and maintained didn't require having a dedicated HRIS person on hand.
Cons
That simplicity came with a tradeoff.Itwasn't very customizable which madeittougher to adapt for more complex needs or changes over time.

“Absolutely horrible! ”
Pros

Cons
This system is very difficult to use. It glitches and does not save important data as it’s entered. I have missed out on a paycheck because of Paylocity! My checking account number was recorded incorrectly and I haven’t been paid. Unacceptable!

“iphone app keeps improving”
Pros
Recent updates to the iPhone app have made handling work while I am out and about much more convenient. As a supervisor, it's also become much simpler to access and manage punch corrections from my phone.
Cons
One thing I'd still like to see added to the iPhone app is an option to accept all punch corrections at once. Since I handle most of my work on my phone becauseit's always with me, that feature would be really helpful.

“custom dashboard is great!”
Pros
It is pretty simple to move around in. One of the things I enjoy most is being able to customize parts of the dashboard like the tabs so the whole experience feels more personalized to the way I work.
Cons
I really haven't run into any downsides withit. Whenever I need to use a feature,it's usually easy to locate. If anything, a more detailed overview of all the available features could be helpful.

“user friendly tool”
Pros
The recent updates to General Ledger reporting were definitely needed and they've made a big difference. Our G/L processing time has dropped quite a bit and the system feels very user-friendly to work with.
Cons
At times, the layout gets changed without any notice which can be a little frustrating and takes a while to relearn. On top of that the wait time to reach our rep by phone can sometimes be pretty long.

“helpful updates and stronger productivity”
Pros
Once you get familiar with the navigation, the platform is pretty easy to use. The regular updates are genuinely useful and the added modules can make a big difference in productivity while also improving record accuracy.
Cons
When problems come up, they are not always fixed as quickly as they should be. Rolling out a new module can also be difficult and there really are not any tips-and-tricks resources so a lot ofithas to be learned by trial and error. Sinceitis built around payroll, there are also some quirks when trying to make current or future changes before payroll has been processed.

“Happy we picked this tool!!”
Pros
Switching from Paycom to Paylocity turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made. The platform is easy to use, payroll stays current and is easy to understand and it clearly shows payments, time-off balances and plenty of other useful details the app offers. Customer support has been excellent as well.
Cons
Honestly I am satisfied with everything. Moving from Paycom toithas been a real advantage for me and I have had no confusion using the app on either my phone or computer.

“Keeps the team well-informed with regular updates”
Pros
This software does a really good job of keeping everyone informed. Their communication is consistent and they regularly share articles, reminders and updates about any upcoming actions we need to pay attention to which helps a lot.
Cons
One part that tends to confuse employees is the way leave balances are shown. I often end up explaining how much time they actually still have available because the display of Plan Year used and Available Left To Use is not very clear especially toward the end of the year.

“Had a pretty bad support experience”
Pros
One helpful part is that it lets us set up carrier feeds for benefit providers and I do appreciate bswift as a standalone product.
Cons
Itscustomer service has been terrible. It often seems like they answer questions without even reviewing how our account is set up first.

“payroll accuracy is spot on”
Pros
I find it very user-friendly for employees, managers and admins alike. The workflow from onboarding to daily tasks and even less common situations is well thought out and consistent. We moved to it in 2022 and over the past four years the platform software and mobile app have continued to improve through frequent updates. One thing I really like is that those updates don't seem to come from Paylocity alone as they clearly take client and user survey feedback into account. It has saved us a lot of time both in the field and in the back office when it comes to payroll tracking and making accurate payments. Compared with our previous payroll processor, we've seen a significant drop in extra payroll costs because payments are being handled correctly through this tool.
Cons
My biggest frustration withitis the feature limitations that come with being under a large TPA umbrella. We have four company entities but because we operate through a TPA, three of those companies sit under their umbrella. As a result, we cannot handle things like password resets, employee information edits or direct deposit changes on our own. Instead, we have to submit a request and wait for their team to completeit.Itreally feels like an admin for a specific company ID should be able to manage users within that company and have full control over their own organization. The explanation we get is that giving us that access would also expose all the other companies under the same TPA. Still, itseems like there should be a better way to separate those permissions.

“Was easy to learn...”
Pros
Overall it was easy to use, as it didn't take much time to learn. Payroll processing is automated and built with plenty of checks and balances which makes the whole process feel reliable. The preprocessing reports are especially useful and the Comparison report has been a big help when it comes to quality assurance.
Cons
Putting together custom reports can be a bit challenging although the Report Writing team has been very supportive. There are times when different service reps give different answers especially around newer features like OB3. Also, the Comparison report would be even more useful ifitincluded hour-to-hour comparisons since right nowitonly compares earnings.

“All in one HR platform!”
Pros
After moving to Paylocity in 2025, we've really appreciated how much independence the platform gives us. It lets us handle a lot in one place, including recruiting, HR profiles, reporting, payroll and more. It feels like a strong value for the cost and the new AI chatbox has been genuinely useful when we need help figuring out how to navigate the system.
Cons
Even though most ofitseems user friendly, there are some pretty significant complexities that only show up once you're already backtracking or correcting something. Customer support is very good most of the time once you've learned the program but those first few months were challenging because there was a lot to figure out.

“Its a huge time-saver”
Pros
Running payroll takes much less time for us now which has been a big benefit. The customer service team is usually very responsive, whether we reach out by phone or email. Their integrations with other software have also worked reliably and without issues.
Cons
Getting started with the onboarding process was not very thorough so we ended up having to figure out quite a bit on our own through trial and error, research and follow-ups with Customer Support. On top of that whenever our representative had to escalate a ticket to another team, the response time was fairly slow and the answers we got were often vague or didn't fully address the original question.

“broken syncing and messy workflows”
Pros
Having recruiting, onboarding, employee records, expenses, surveys and more all under one system really has the potential to be a huge advantage for an HRIS. The all-in-one setup is exactly what makes the platform appealing and we especially love the community board.
Cons
The biggest problem is that too many parts ofitdo not function properly together or sync the way they should across modules. During onboarding, information that gets entered does not carry over into HR once the employee is onboarded so we have to manually re-enter details like OT exemption status or an hourly rate on a salaried employee. Updates made in HR also do not flow into expense or time and labor consistently. For example, if a supervisor is changed in HR, that same supervisor does not automatically update in time and labor or expense. Time-off balances also do not calculate or accrue correctly. Rehiring is another major issue becauseitdoes not work properly at all, often creating duplicate employee profiles or causing problems since the information does not feed correctly into user access, time and labor and other areas. On top of that workflows are far too complicated for tasks that should be simple. That was one of the main reasons we moved toit, yet we still have not been able to use workflows the way we hoped. I really wish there were just a basic document acknowledgment option. In Paychex, we could upload a policy or file, hit launch, senditto the right people, collect acknowledgments and be done. I miss that functionality a lot.

“recruiting and onboarding standout!”
Pros
Using Paylocity has been very easy and whenever help is needed, the team responds quickly and provides feedback fast. The Recruiting and Onboarding feature is the one I use the most and it has easily become my favorite part of the platform.
Cons
There is not really a major downside but I do get a steady stream of calls and messages from people who are locked out ofitand need to reset their password.

“quick support”
Pros
From the employee side, I must say it is user friendly and easy to use. It includes just about all the tools we need from an HRIS which makes it a very capable platform overall. The customer support has also been a big plus as when I reach out, I am able to speak with knowledgeable people who actually understand the system, listen carefully and dig into issues when answers aren't immediately available. Another thing I really appreciate is how open Paylocity is to feedback and product suggestions because the platform continues to improve and evolve.
Cons
On the admin side, the back-end setup is definitely less user friendly than the general employee-facing features.Itcan take some digging to figure out where to go and how to make certain configuration changes even though I do appreciate that almost everything is customizable. At the same time, whileit's a positive thatitacts on customer suggestions and keeps improvingit, those updates can sometimes lead to underlying functionality changing with very little warning. When that happens, we have to adapt how we useit and in some cases even update company policies or retrain leaders. Reporting could also be more simple.

“Its a complete tool!!”
Pros
Having most things in one place is a big plus. It keeps administration and integrations more manageable and it also makes access much more convenient for employees.
Cons
One thing that really bothers me withitis that an employee's ID cannot be changed.Itfeels likeitshould be editable butitseems to be tied toitsinternal unique identifier for each employee. The way time off is handled between Time & Labor and HR & Payroll could also use improvement.

“not built to scale”
Pros
It works reasonably well for a smaller company with fewer than 200 employees but once a business starts growing or has more complex financial requirements, it really doesn't hold up that well.
Cons
A lot seems to depend on whether you happen to get a strong service rep. Even then, most of the work still falls on you whenitcomes to handling everything init. Instead of actually stepping in to help, they usually just point you to instructions on how to doityourself.

“helpful for performance tracking”
Pros
Overall it is fairly easy to use and the performance management module has been especially useful. It gives managers a convenient way to document and keep track of important conversations with their teams.
Cons
Reporting is whereitgets frustrating. I cannot always pull everything I need into a single report and customizing reports feels pretty fiddly. The time-off request feature is another pain point becauseitautomatically assumes Saturday and Sunday are the regular days off which doesn't fit retail or grocery environments and ends up confusing staff.

“payroll automation done right !”
Pros
Handling payroll with Paylocity has been very easy because the platform is flexible and simple to work with. Any time I have needed help, the customer support has been excellent and quick to assist. We also use the time and attendance module and it connects with our accounting system and benefits plans which has helped us organize and automate payroll allocations. That has made the whole process more efficient and has saved us both time and money.
Cons
At the beginning, itdidn't offer integration with our accounting software which was frustrating. That said this has since been updated and is now available. A lot of the problems I ran into earlier have also been addressed through technology upgrades over the last couple of years.
