“Smart tax timing”
Pros
QuickBooks Payroll feels like a well-rounded online payroll service that should cover what most small businesses need especially if you're already using other QuickBooks products and services. The setup process was easy too and customer support was the best when needed. One thing I especially appreciated was being able to schedule payroll tax withdrawals so the money came out of my business account close to when the payment was actually due to the tax agency. Some payroll providers pull those tax funds right after payroll runs and then sit on the money until the remittance date. QuickBooks didn't seem to handle it that way which I really valued.
Cons
Running payroll takes a few more steps than I'd prefer and there are several informational pop-ups along the way that I usually ignore, mostly the usual are you sure you want to do that? type of prompts. I also ran into an issue with certain Washington state taxes that QuickBooks never managed to report and remit correctly. Its tax calculations didn't quite line up with what the state agency calculated and updating QuickBooks to reflect what I had actually paid turned out to be more complicated than it should have been. On top of that the pricing isn't very competitive for very small businesses compared with other payroll services.

“payroll setup made simple”
Pros
Getting new employees or vendor details entered was really easy. The setup for deductions and direct deposit is well done and QuickBooks Payroll works really well even for someone who doesn't have any prior experience.
Cons
Everything went very well while using this product and I didn't run into any issues at all.

“reliable tax filing automation”
Pros
Having the tax tables update automatically is a big plus and it's really convenient that W-2s are mailed out for me while the quarterly and annual reports get filed without extra work on my end. The system is very user-friendly and since it's backed by Intuit, there's a level of trust that comes with it. At the same time, if you prefer to review every detail yourself, you still have that option.
Cons
I haven't actually needed to contact payroll tech support but I assume it would probably be just as frustrating as most other Intuit or QuickBooks support calls.

“Complicated setup and high cost”
Pros
It connects with existing tax and accounting software which is useful if you already rely on those systems.
Cons
The overall process feels far too complicated and the pricing is extremely high for what it offers.

“Tasks made simple”
Pros
Entering and sending out paychecks, tax details and other payroll information is really easy which makes the whole process much more convenient.
Cons
It does cost a bit more than some other payroll providers but the value you get from it definitely makes the price worthwhile.

“Simple setup and auto-calculations”
Pros
Getting payroll up and running was really easy. One feature I especially appreciated was how the system automatically recalculated everything whenever hours were adjusted for salaried employees.
Cons
One limitation we ran into was the lack of internal control settings that would let the accounting team access the full program except for payroll which became a confidentiality concern for us.

“payroll handled from start to finish”
Pros
From running payroll to printing checks, it takes care of the whole process and even posts the entries directly into QuickBooks. It also handles payroll taxes and submits them to the right agencies which saves a lot of time and hassle.
Cons
QuickBooks Online is pricey and this payroll option comes as an added feature even though it's something most businesses would probably need to use anyway.

“automated tax filing”
Pros
Payroll is almost entirely on autopilot. I only need to enter hours for employees with irregular schedules and the rest is handled for me. Taxes are calculated automatically, reminders are sent for filings and payments and QuickBooks can even e-file everything on my behalf.
Cons
The support team has been extremely helpful whenever I have reached out but actually finding their contact information takes more time than it should. It would be much better to have a clearly visible button or phone number for faster access to help.

“payroll and tax handling done right”
Pros
One thing that really works well with QuickBooks Payroll is how it keeps track of important tax information and applies it automatically. It also helps me get through a batch of paychecks quickly and on time which makes payroll much more efficient.
Cons
The only downside I have run into is that I have to open each employee profile to update details like pay or health insurance amounts instead of being able to change it directly on the paycheck. If I update it there, it just resets by the next pay period.

“Frustrating errors and weak support”
Pros
One-day direct deposit is a nice feature and the overall interface has a decent feel once you get past the learning curve.
Cons
The biggest problems were the unclear error messages, too many mistakes throughout the system and customer service that was not helpful at all.

“payroll time savings”
Pros
One of the biggest benefit has been how much time it saves me on payroll. Since I run payroll every week, this probably saves me weeks of tax prep over the course of a year and it also gives me peace of mind that everything is handled correctly so I am less worried about getting audited.
Cons
Since I'd never worked with a payroll system before, there was a small learning curve at the beginning but that really came down to my lack of experience.

“Flexible paycheck edits”
Pros
It's really convenient to update paychecks before or even while payroll is being processed.
Cons
QuickBooks Payroll doesn't handle local tax processing so it doesn't feel like a fully serviced payroll option the way ADP and similar providers do. It also cannot calculate workers' comp liability unless you're using QuickBooks WC.

Pros
This is goos as handling payroll with it has been a really convenient and simple process. It gives you several ways to pay employees and it's simple enough to teach others without much trouble.
Cons
One thing to watch out for is that I have to double-check everything because sometimes the dates or hours change unexpectedly and then I end up having to start over.
