quick setup and helpful trial

Pros

Getting started with it was easy and using it felt simple even without any previous payroll experience! I also appreciated that they offer a free trial.

Cons

I do wish customer support were easier to reach and able to give more complete answers once you finally connect with a representative.

Payroll made effortless

Pros

When using this platform three words come to mind right away: ease of use! Whether I'm paying salaried employees or hourly staff it fits what I need without any trouble. It also takes care of filing 941s and other payroll related taxes and getting tax documents out to employees each January is very simple. Other than that the reminder emails are genuinely useful. I get notified when a holiday is coming up so I can run payroll ahead of time and I also receive alerts for employee birthdays and work anniversaries.

Cons

After years of managing payroll the part I enjoy the least is still adding a new state to payroll. That process tends to be frustrating no matter which software you use but it still feels like this one could make it more smooth than it is now. Also (although I haven't tested this recently) there used to be an issue when trying to pay a 1099 contractor by direct deposit if they used a Tax ID number instead of an SS#.

stellar support

Pros

Handling payroll and employee management with this software feels effortless. Their customer support is outstanding compared with other companies I've used and it also delivers excellent value for the price :)

Cons

There's a lot to appreciate about it overall but it does have limitations when it comes to Simple IRA Roth deductions for employees.

referral rewards never happen

Pros

Switching over in the middle of the year still made employee onboarding fairly simple. The setup process went pretty well and I was able to work closely with the staff to make sure everything was accurate.

Cons

The frustrating part is that they promise referral rewards and then never actually follow through. Anytime I reach out to someone about it I keep getting passed off with a "not my department" response.

Terrible service and billing

Pros

I absolutely regret using this software. They kept taking my money without providing decent service at all. Even after I called in 2024 to cancel they continued charging me monthly service fees all the way through April 2025. I switched my payroll provider to QuickBooks/Intuit and the difference has been huge with none of the trouble.

Cons

Customer service is awful. It's a complete waste of time and no one should expect reliable payroll service from them.

clear paycheck breakdowns

Pros

Using it has been really easy and I especially appreciate how clearly it lays out the breakdown of money deducted from each paycheck.

Cons

referral payout never arrived

Pros

Their customer service was very helpful and the sales team did a solid job guiding me through the setup process.

Cons

They advertise a referral program but they never actually paid me. I waited the full 90 days they required and the payment still never showed up so I would not bother sending any referrals their way.

Pros

Hidden fees and false promises

Pros

The starting price or promotional offer looks inexpensive at first. If you refer someone or sign up through a referral you can also earn a few hundred dollars.

Cons

They draw you in with a low introductory rate or promo but then charge extra for basic tax related services like issuing W-2s and filing and paying year end taxes. Apart from that they tack on several additional fees and add ons. Customer service also tends to overpromise and give inaccurate information which leaves you dealing with another agent later just to straighten everything out.

Good payroll guidance

Pros

Getting started with it was very easy and there's a dedicated team that walks you through everything step by step so you know exactly what to do.

Cons

Since my business is still fairly new it was a bit confusing at first to understand what they handle versus what I'm responsible for (like tax information) though that wasn't really an issue caused by them.

clear pay updates

Pros

Easier to keep track of getting paid because the email notifications come through right away! Checking my paystubs is also very easy and the way everything is laid out makes the details simple to read and understand.

Cons

Something I would change is having the actual paystub sent by email too. That would save me from needing to log in every time and I could just take a quick look at it as soon as I get paid.

efficient platform

Pros

Running payroll with this is efficient and takes a lot of the inconvenience out of the whole process. Being able to pull up payroll information quickly and without trouble is probably the feature I appreciate most.

Cons

One downside is that the website can feel a little complicated when it comes to navigation.

online pay access is a win

Pros

Something I really appreciate is that employees can log in to view their paychecks online and update their own information without needing extra help.

Cons

When we reached out about adding time tracking we never got the instructions needed to set it up and start using it at our properties.

Pros

easy to use

Pros

Running payroll with this platform feels very easy. The interface is user friendly and laid out in a way that makes everything simple to follow so getting payroll done often takes only a couple of minutes.

Cons

I'm disappointed with their customer service because the wait times are long, issues are hard to get resolved and the support representatives haven't been very helpful.

Very Poor Customer Service, Lots of Mistakes

Pros

After we finally got Surepay set up, it worked pretty well. It handled our payroll smoothly and offered various ways to file. As long as there aren't any issues, the company does a fairly decent job.

Cons

When they set up our employees, they messed up with one employee in another state. They filed the unemployment insurance with the wrong state agency, even though they got the other taxes right. We never got an explanation for why this happened. We ended up having to fight that battle ourselves. The customer service rep tried to persuade us to extend our contract until the end of the year, misleading us by saying that we wouldn't be able to get our year-end reports done otherwise. But in payroll, everything is handled quarterly, and we're fully capable of filling out our own W2s using the IRS form that's publicly available. They hung up on us twice when we refused to extend the service. It was clear they didn't want us to cancel. I spent a frustrating two hours on the phone trying to cancel, getting transferred between different departments, dropped into the receptionist's office, and finally had to threaten legal action just to get the cancellation done. Their employees are incredibly rude and impatient, they don't listen to your concerns, constantly talk over you, interrupt, and if you ask them to actually listen to your issue, they'll just drop your call. The culture there seems toxic.

Basic Software if that is what is needed

Pros

It does the basics just fine. It'll get the job done, but don't expect much beyond that.

Cons

It barely functions beyond the basics. The customer service is awful too, offering no real help or support when you need it most.

Love SurePay

Pros

The simplicity and accuracy of this software make the onboarding process a breeze.

Cons

Nothing to mention. I suppose I have to use at least 40 characters to complete this review, but I find this requirement unnecessary.

RUN RUN RUN - THEY COLLECTED TAXES AND THE IRS CAN'T FIND THEM

Pros

Absolutely nothing. I've called their customer service more than six times this week, and they've been completely unhelpful.

Cons

I used SurePayroll throughout 2022, and now, I've recently heard from the IRS that SurePayroll hasn't submitted the tax payments I made. I'm now in a situation where I'm chasing after SurePayroll, practically begging them to help me locate the missing money. It's an incredibly frustrating experience, as I'm left in the dark with no clear answers.

Pros
