Affordable and dependable software

Pros

Having used other software at previous firms, I was careful with expenses when opening my own practice. I chose this tool initially because of the price but I've continued using and recommending it for the service and the easy-to-use platform as well.

Cons

From my use, the check printing feature hasn't felt very user-friendly.

Highly customizable tool

Pros

As someone who practices intellectual property law, I really value the level of customization this tool offers. I've used other leading products and often felt frustrated by how few features applied to IP work but here I can customize invoices, billing codes and case details. Once I set up invoices to reflect payments properly, bookkeeping became much easier for me.

Cons

Over time, I've grown used to the default interface, even though it originally felt messy and outdated, despite the option for a more modern look.

Better usability than expensive alternatives

Pros

Based on my experience, we've used much more expensive case management software in the past that didn't match this tool in ease of use or functionality. I've also found their support to be excellent whenever we needed help.

Cons

For my learning needs, I'd like to see more YouTube tutorials that explain the advanced features of the software.

Free version made upgrade simple

Pros

What made the upgrade simple for me was that the free version felt just as capable as the paid one. Moving up was an easy decision and I felt confident choosing it over competitors.

Cons

In my daily use, the system feels a bit clunky and the UI/UX needs work. I don't really understand the new interface, so I've stuck with the classic version and the Google Drive integration could be better which is why I mainly use it just for timekeeping.

Mobile-friendly and easy to adopt tool

Pros

At first, I was intimidated by the amount of software available and needed something simple for all employees to use. I also love having a mobile app which makes things much easier when I'm out of the office or at the courthouse.

Cons

With billing, I found it took some practice and when I have to write off unpaid amounts, it still appears as income which is confusing for me.

Steep learning curve for teams

Pros

For me, it worked well when it came to getting organized which was honestly the only part I liked but it did help with tracking files.

Cons

For my team, it required a lot of training before we could use it comfortably and it didn't feel very adaptable for others in our firm.

Reliable and simple for small business

Versatile with productivity monitoring

Pros

What I really enjoy is the versatility of this program and the fact that it lets me monitor my staff's productivity throughout the day. Those reports are especially useful when it comes time for performance reviews.

Cons

At this stage, I've only just started using the product, so we're still finding our way around it and so far I haven't found anything I dislike.

Professional billing issues with glitches

Pros

When my partners and I launched our law firm, we ran several price and functionality comparisons and for me, this tool simply couldn't be beaten. We used it for the first 15 months of our practice as we grew our team and client base and it allowed me to structure billing exactly how I wanted while easily tracking trust account payments.

Cons

In my view, there are three main issues, typos, bills that looked unprofessional and frequent glitches. I could tell it was managed by an offshore team due to the English errors and we eventually moved from it to LeanLaw because it offered more professional billing and easy QuickBooks integration.

Billing tools simplify case tracking

Pros

In my case, the billing tools were the most useful feature. They made it very easy for me to track how much money was generated per case and per client which is extremely helpful when my focus needs to stay on legal work rather than administrative billing tasks.

Cons

Personally, I wouldn't change anything about the software, although we are currently using another similar tool with almost the same features as it.

Interface change made system unusable

Pros

Honestly, I don't have anything to add here beyond meeting the minimum text requirement.

Cons

For me, the interface change made the system completely unusable, clunky, confusing and not worth using. I would stop using it immediately if I could but all of my data is stored there, so I can't.

Cloud-based and easy billing access

Pros

From my perspective, this tool is easy to use and works well as billing software. I like that there's no installation or setup needed since it's cloud-based, allowing both me and my clients to access it on any platform. It also helps me manage billing rates, documents and phone calls and the integrations with tools like Google Drive, Dropbox, Office 365 and PayPal are useful.

Cons

At times, I find it difficult to transfer billing entries from one case to another and the user interface could definitely look more polished.

Complex interface with hard-to-find features

Pros

What stands out to me are the timekeeping and invoicing tools. Batch invoicing saves me a lot of time and having multiple online payment options makes collecting payments easier. Calendar syncing with Google, Outlook and iCal adds even more value for me.

Cons

In my experience, the interface feels complex and hard to understand and finding features is difficult unless I go through documentation and explore everything manually.

Quick setup with responsive support

Pros

In my experience, it's very easy to use and quick to set up. Whenever something doesn't work the way I want, I reach out to customer support and they're very responsive in helping resolve it.

Cons

From my use, the system does not automatically generate reminder bills for inactive matters and the reports don't give me all the information I want. I also don't have the skills to customize those reports.

Basic software with inaccurate info

Pros

Cons

From my point of view, the software feels very basic. When I first signed up, my questions were answered in a way that satisfied me but about a month later I realized the information I was given wasn't accurate. Based on that experience, I wouldn't use this software even if it were free.

Excellent support and smooth transition

Pros

As part of a small firm, I asked a lot of questions and in my experience the support team consistently went above and beyond what I expected. Switching software can be stressful but they really helped keep everything organized which is why I'd recommend it.

Cons

Within our firm, I find the way cases and clients are structured a bit confusing, though I can see how it might work better for other firm types.

Easy online access for co-counsel

Pros

What I like is that it's online, making it easy for my co-counsel in other states to log in and enter their time on my cases.

Cons

If I had to choose something, I'd say I sometimes get lost navigating between the different tabs.

great functionality with flexible tracking

Pros

From my experience, the functionality is great and I can access it anytime with a Wi-Fi connection. I also appreciate being able to format things like file numbers, backdating entries and tracking everything through the calendar.

Cons

For my workflow, I wish I could upload all emails and documents into it so everything stayed together. I currently rely on Google Drive and it would help to download and open all file types, especially PDFs, directly within a client's file. I'd also like to rename invoice fields to terms I actually use, such as changing Government # to Court Location.
