Centralized matter management

Pros

It lets our law firm keep all of each client's information organized within their matter and it's simple for team members to access and share across the office.

Cons

It doesn't integrate very well with QuickBooks Desktop so adding better sync support there would be really helpful. It would also be nice if emails from Outlook could sync automatically instead of needing to be filed one by one, ideally with an option to select which emails should be saved.

Pros

Having the whole case in one place is something I really appreciate.

Cons

There isn't much to complain about but a few things can be frustrating at times, like how hard it is to duplicate a document.

Outdated tutorials

Pros

Creating contacts and linking them to matters or relationships is pretty simple and it does a good job of helping us keep up with both clients and non-clients. The Tasks feature is useful too although we've ended up relying more on Google Calendar for task tracking. I also appreciate the connection between Google Drive and Clio. The email add-on is a nice touch and being able to route emails into the Communications tab is convenient.

Cons

The tutorials feel outdated which makes learning certain features less helpful than it should be. I'm also not a fan of the fact that the add-on extensions cost extra. To really get the full value out of Clio, it seems like you need to pay for additional programs on top of it. Another limitation is document handling, there's no way to paginate documents or PDFs in Document Automation and it won't work directly with a PDF. It has to start as another document type and then be exported as a PDF later.

Feature-packed software

Pros

it's not hard to learn your way around. It also comes with plenty of features that are genuinely useful for managing a law practice.

Cons

The only issue we've run into is that we still haven't been able to figure out how to send aging invoices each month.

Amazing integration with Outlook

Pros

Being able to integrate it with Outlook and still access everything while I'm on the go has been really useful.

Cons

One thing I wish it handled better is letting me attach emails to multiple matters.

Keeps track of matters

Pros

Creating matters, keeping track of them and handling invoicing is simple and it covers everything I need.

Cons

A lower price would always be welcome but honestly, I'd probably say that about any product.

Convenient for tracking

Pros

Getting a timer started and assigning it to the right task is really quick which makes tracking my work much more convenient. I also appreciate the Windows desktop integration because it lets me open and save files on my computer even when they're stored in the cloud.

Cons

A few clients have mentioned that the portal can be hard to navigate. I also wish the user intake forms offered more dynamic options and the lawyer mobile app can sometimes be tricky to use when I'm trying to get to my client portals.

Easy to find clients

Pros

Pulling up previous cases, former clients and older contacts is really convenient and it makes cross-referencing information much simpler.

Cons

I do wish there were more options to control what shows up on the matter dashboard, like being able to customize it based on the case type.

Firm calendar feature is great

Pros

The firm calendar has been a huge plus for us which matters a lot in our practice. The other features also do a solid job of helping keep multiple attorneys in the firm organized and moving in the same direction.

Cons

I honestly can't think of anything I like least about the product.

Eliminates a lot of paperwork

Pros

Moving toward a paper-light workflow has been much more manageable with it. Entering contacts and case details is simple and they offer several webinars that do a good job of helping new users get familiar with the system. The help section is also very thorough. When we need support, the help app usually gets a response pretty quickly and phone support is available too. If you're not already in the habit of saving documents directly to a client file, there's a bit of an adjustment at first. We now save emails into Clio instead of printing them and since our courts use e-filing, we download file-stamped documents straight into Clio so they're readily available. The global search is especially useful for conflict checks because it searches across documents, calls, emails, calendars and more.

Cons

Our clients do not always find the invoices easy to follow. We have modified the template somewhat and are still working on a layout that makes the billing format clearer and easier for them to understand.

Allows communication with client

Pros

Entering notes is very simple and I especially appreciate being able to communicate with clients through the portal and handle billing in one place with Clio.

Cons

The reporting area could be better. It would be helpful to have more report options that match the ones I need.

Saves so much time

Pros

Keeping everyone at the firm updated on cases has become much simpler with Clio and it has been incredibly helpful for billing as well. It has saved us a huge amount of time overall. This really saves SO MUCH TIME!

Cons

It can be more expensive than some other options but it is worth it.

Every feature I need

Pros

Right from the start, it has been very user-friendly to use and it includes pretty much every feature I've wanted or thought of.

Cons

The only thing I'd still like to see is more smooth connectivity with other software. More integrations keep being added which is encouraging but I'm looking forward to the point where everything works together flawlessly.

Would recommend!

Pros

Bringing new clients into the system is very simple and both Clio Grow and Clio Manage do a really good job of helping me stay on top of client details and their various billing information. I'd absolutely recommend this program to another lawyer.

Cons

Email template setup could be better since I need separate templates for different kinds of clients and creating them is a little complicated. It would also be useful to have clearer instructions for handling different functions in the program later on.

Appreciate the reporting features

Pros

The reporting tools have been a huge plus for us. They give us a strong handle on most of our trailing business metrics and we're now starting to use Clio Grow for lead indicators as well so our firm can make smarter, better-informed decisions.

Cons

Because the platform includes so many features, it can feel a bit labyrinthine at times. We've been using the software for years and only now are we really beginning to adopt it fully for everything it was designed to do.

Superb for Time tracking and billing

Pros

Using it daily has been very simple and it does a really good job of keeping up with my time, billing, client details and documents all in one place.

Cons

The only frustrating part at times is updating my profile or billing information since that section is not quite as user-friendly to navigate.

Budget-friendly option

Pros

Getting started with it doesn't take long and it comes with a lot of useful features for both our firm and our clients. On top of that, the pricing feels reasonable for what it offers.

Cons

There's still room to improve the client portal. It would be much better if documents and bills could be sent even when they aren't connected to a specific matter. It would also help if uploaded documents in a client's matters could be arranged in chronological or reverse chronological order regardless of when they were added. Another limitation is that initial trust requests can only be sent by email right now, instead of through the client portal. The Apple Clio for Clients app could also use some work since it only supports portrait mode on iPhone and doesn't let users rotate to landscape to view longer titles more clearly.

Exceeded our expectations

Pros

I first came across Clio eight years ago at the ABA Tech Conference and right away it felt like something that could completely change how our firm worked. That turned out to be true. It has given us the flexibility to work from anywhere while keeping everyone aligned, helped us manage cases more efficiently and made things much more convenient for our clients too, whether they want to track their case or pay invoices online or from their phone. Clio has delivered on all of that for us and even more.

Cons

Document management lagged behind for quite a while although Clio has been making progress there as well. We're hoping we'll soon be able to phase out our current document management system and fully move over to Clio Drive.

Friendly time entry tools

Pros

The calendar and time entry tools are very user-friendly and make daily work much easier to manage.
