Their team is always there for me

Pros

Getting document management set up with Clio was simple and it fits in well without much hassle. Their representative is consistently available whenever questions come up which has been really helpful. It also makes storing and organizing documents very convenient.

Cons

At times, the layout and placement of certain features don't feel very user-friendly so finding things can take a bit longer than expected.

Flexible and easy to operate

Pros

The ease of use and ability to customize it are absolutely essential for our team.

Cons

Getting it tailored to fit our firm took quite a while but once everything was set up the way we needed, it became very simple to use.

Handy notes, tiny buttons

Pros

Clocking my hours is simple and it's also easy to go back and check the notes I entered later.

Cons

The buttons on the left-hand side are too small so I end up clicking the wrong ones pretty often.

Time tracking helps calculate charges

Pros

Billing tools are the biggest advantage here especially the invoicing and time tracking for calculating charges. I also rely on the client management side every day to pull up contact details and check case-related information quickly.

Cons

Getting the integrations set up was somewhat frustrating. Since we're a very small office without any technical support, a lot of the built-in features are still underused simply because we don't fully know the software yet or the best way to connect it with our current filing and document storage system.

can access it from anywhere

Pros

Getting started with it was simple and using it day to day has been easy as well. I also really appreciate being able to access it from anywhere which makes it very convenient.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any major complaints. If I had to mention one thing, I wish customizing my marketing strategy was a bit more flexible so the reporting could be better.

Keeps track of billable hours

Pros

Being web based means all of my documents are available no matter where I am which is really convenient. It also makes it simple to track billable time, check who last edited a document and pull up older versions whenever I need them.

Cons

The invoicing can be confusing when you're coming from a different system. There are also times when documents won't save into Clio if they've been left open too long. Microsoft Word is slower to open and sync than WordPerfect and if you stay on the same tab for too long, Clio stops opening new sections until you log out and sign back in.

Frustrating add-on dependent setup

Pros

The invoicing part worked reasonably well but the integration with LawPay was a mess.

Cons

There's no lead management unless you pay extra for Grow. Document automation also requires a separate Documate subscription and even then it doesn't work both ways so you can't create documents in Documate and send that information back into Clio. Invoicing and client payments also depend on paying for LawPay. With so many basic functions locked behind additional subscriptions, it really makes me wonder what the point of using Clio is at all.

Perfect balance between simplicity and functionality

Pros

It strikes a really nice balance between being very user friendly and still offering advanced, practical features. The billing tools are especially convenient and do a great job of keeping everything organized.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any complaints. Any time something comes up, your team communicates clearly and the updates consistently address the features I want improved.

Sleek interface and top-notch support

Pros

It's biggest strength is its user interface. It's hard to overstate how much poor UX can wear down both an organization and the people using the software every day. Clio feels user-friendly right away and it's simple to customize to fit different needs. On top of that, their chat support is the best I've come across in any product category.

Cons

The built-in document management inside the app is not its strongest area. It works well enough but most teams will probably still want to connect it with a document management system they already use.

case management that keeps everything moving

Pros

The case management system has been a standout for me. I can upload and store documents, share them with clients, set up tasks with reminders and communicate with clients confidentially, all in one place.

Cons

One thing that could be improved is creating a matter from a contact. It would be much better to have a button right on the contact to open a new matter so the documents and notes already attached to that contact would automatically carry over into the matter.

convenient navigation

Pros

Navigating it feels simple and searching for contacts, notes and documents is quick and convenient. The billing tools are also simple to work with.

Cons

A few features that were available in our previous law practice management software are missing here. There's also an unresolved issue between Fastersuite and Clio when entering daily time tickets.

Integrations make up for weaknesses

Pros

I really appreciate how well it connects with other tools which makes it possible to fill in the gaps where Clio is solid but not especially advanced. For example, Clio Manage handles task management well enough but since it doesn't include kanban or gantt views, I can connect it with platforms like Asana or Monday.com to cover those needs.

Cons

Certain features meet the need at a basic level but they are not as developed as software built for one specific function. Using task management as the same example, it works and can be automated but it still lacks more specialized options like kanban boards or gantt charts. On top of that, the sync between Clio Grow and Clio Manage could be better because the two systems do not transfer everything completely and some items, such as emails, seem to be missing. Another frustration is exporting selected data which takes a lot of time. When one of our attorneys left the firm, getting her client information meant opening each client record individually and choosing export for every type of data, including emails, documents, contacts, transactions and more.

Pros

Clio has been an excellent software application for managing calendaring along with a variety of other day-to-day administrative tasks.

Cons

There really have not been many downsides with it, the only thing I wish it offered is document automation.

court updates at a glance

Pros

Keeping legal documents organized has been much more manageable with this software and it does a really good job of keeping me informed about anything submitted to the court. I receive an email whenever a new document is uploaded which means I never miss an update.

Cons

documents don't appear the same day they're submitted to the court although I'm not convinced that's actually a Clio issue. I'm not sure what causes the delay. The invoicing side can also feel a little confusing at times but it's still manageable.

Pleased with the performance

Pros

After about a month of using it, I'm still getting familiar with everything but I'm already very happy with it. The platform is user-friendly and customer service has been available even during evening hours which has been really helpful. They also offer plenty of instructional videos that guide you through what you need to learn. It's helping make my new practice much more efficient.

Cons

I'd really like to see built-in basic templates or automated documents. As a new firm owner, there are so many forms needed for clients and case management and creating all of them from scratch takes a lot of time. I also wish there were automatic custom fields for opposing counsel. For those of us handling litigation, not having to build those fields ourselves would make learning and using Clio much faster.
