Knowledgeable sales rep

Pros

The sales rep was fantastic and really knew the product well. The online support has also been outstanding. Whenever I run into an issue or need extra guidance on a process, they're always happy to hop on a Zoom call and share screens so they can see exactly what's going on and walk me through it.

Cons

The only downside was having to wait around three weeks before my training started. Even so, the customer service team was so helpful during that time that we were still able to complete and send out our bills before the training even happened.

User-friendly and quick to learn

Pros

It's very user friendly and you can pretty much teach yourself how to use it without much trouble.

Cons

Saving documents directly into it can be difficult so I still rely on the CLIO drive on my desktop.

keeps the team aligned

Pros

Clio helps our team handle and share information in a way that keeps everyone aligned and working efficiently together.

Cons

I'd appreciate a bit more flexibility when it comes to moving data fields after they've already been created.

justifies its cost

Pros

Running my practice is a lot more simpler with it because it helps me stay on top of everything that matters, from leads and current clients to attorney time, billing and overall firm financial goals. Even back when my solo practice was still just a side hustle, Clio Manage easily justified its cost through the time it saved me and how simple it was to use. Their customer support has also been outstanding. Live help is easy to reach when I need assistance with setup or troubleshooting and the online articles and videos are very helpful when I want answers on demand.

Cons

It has a ton of features that I still have not tapped into and while that is not really a flaw, it can be tough to carve out time to learn the next tool when I am also busy running a law firm. Some add-ons promoted as compatible with Clio have also felt unnecessary for my practice. QuickBooks, for example, connected with Clio but its billing and tracking overlapped with things I was already handling inside Clio. I was already billing there so I did not need QuickBooks for that and I could already categorize expenses through my bank accounts. The only thing QuickBooks added was part of the payroll support for my assistant and once I realized it was calculating my state workers' comp incorrectly, I stopped using it and brought in a bookkeeper instead.

Convenient billing, crowded interface

Pros

Keeping track of billable time was pretty simple and adding up hours in the billing section was very convenient.

Cons

That said the screens consistently feel overcrowded which makes the system harder to move around in. It's also expensive and compared with other case management platforms at a similar price, it doesn't include all the same features.

awesome time management features

Pros

After getting used to the system, I've really come to appreciate the document handling and time management features.

Cons

There are times when it's a bit tricky to get it to load on my computer and I'm still trying to learn everything at once. Management seems to expect a high level of expertise after only a few cases. I'm not as young as I used to be and rushing the learning process doesn't help when real understanding matters more than rote memorization.

Friendly and helpful team

Pros

It has been consistently reliable and packed with useful functionality. It works well for firms of almost any size which makes it pretty versatile. On top of that, every interaction I've had with the Clio team has been positive, they've always been friendly, helpful and genuinely pleasant to work with.

Cons

Clio Payments still doesn't include a "Buy Now / Pay Later" option even though its main competitor, LawPay, already offers that. There are also some odd invoicing problems that show up in rare situations. On top of that, Clio Grow and Clio Manage don't connect as smoothly as they should and the platform could really use more integrations with third-party apps, websites and services like Legal Match.

one stop shop

Pros

Having calendaring, invoicing, payments and communication tools all built into it makes it feel like a true one-stop shop. It also works well with third-party apps inside the same ecosystem which makes the platform very convenient and simple to use.

Cons

At times, certain features are locked behind the highest service tier. That makes sense to a degree but it can still be tough for newer professionals or younger users who are just getting started.

Simple to add events to the calendar

Pros

Handling my caseload is very simple with it. It makes it simple to add events to the calendar, stay on top of important dates, track my time and manage billing all in one place.

Cons

Clio Grow and Manage work together but I'd rather have emails sent through Grow automatically saved and cataloged in Manage.

Lifesaver for solo practice

Pros

Getting my solo practice off the ground was much easier. Almost every tool feels user-friendly to use and over the past two years I've been really pleased to watch the platform keep improving and adding upgrades. I rely on it heavily to stay organized especially the billing tools, document e-signature feature and the connection to its partner, Proof, for service of process.

Cons

At first, I was frustrated that Clio Grow and Clio Manage didn't really communicate with each other. I really value Clio Grow for tracking leads and potential clients and being able to move a file into Clio Manage is helpful. The part that bothered me was that the two systems weren't fully synced. That said Clio has clearly been working on that issue and continues to improve it.

They listen to feedback

Pros

I appreciate how closely you listen to client feedback and actually roll out features that many attorneys have been asking for. I've been using Clio for more than five years and that responsiveness is still what I value most about the company.

Cons

Custom fields are still a nightmare. It would really help to have some kind of central overview of all merge fields across Manage and Grow and for them to sync more reliably. That said the new feature for syncing contacts between Manage and Grow is fantastic, we absolutely love it.

Ideal for running solo practice

Pros

Running a solo practice is easier with Clio because it keeps all the key parts of my work in one place, including time tracking, billing, invoicing and file management. The platform is very user-friendly and it has been incredibly valuable for cutting down the time I spend on administrative work so I can put more energy into growing my practice.

Cons

Honestly I have no complaints at all, every part of it has helped make my day-to-day work easier.

central hub

Pros

Having everything in one system has been a big plus. It handles all the essentials I need, from drafting letters and documents to billing and invoicing and keeping everything centralized makes records more accurate and much easier to access when needed.

Cons

Getting the platform configured the way you want can take a lot of time especially since there isn't much of a guided setup process. Some of the setup options are a bit tricky so having a dedicated onboarding person assigned at sign-up to help tailor everything to the business would make a big difference. I also ran into an issue connecting my email to Clio because my Outlook account was purchased through a third party, GoDaddy. That limitation wasn't made clear at the beginning and it would have been helpful to know that upfront during my first conversations with Clio.

Regular new features

Pros

They roll out new features on a regular basis which shows the product keeps moving forward. Customer support has also been very helpful whenever needed.

Cons

A few features still feel unfinished, almost like they weren't fully shaped around how a real law firm would actually use them.

essential for my workflow

Pros

From day one, it has felt like an essential part of how I run my organization. The platform is user-friendly, efficient and genuinely supports the day-to-day work of our office. Even the tools that were not especially relevant to my nonprofit practice have either already been improved to better fit our needs, like Clio for Legal Aid or are clearly being updated in that direction. On top of the product itself, Clio stands out as a company that truly cares about its staff, its clients and its mission. Plenty of companies are passionate about the legal field but Clio also seems deeply invested in the people doing the work. That client-centered mindset really separates them from other competitors.

Cons

Our organization has relied on an ACCESS database to handle claims processing for over twenty years so making a full transition is a big step. I would really like to use Clio's billing and invoicing tools but at this point they still are not granular enough for us to completely move away from ACCESS.

Integrated well with other software

Pros

Right away, it fit in well with the other software our firm already uses. It's flexible enough to support a wide range of legal practice areas which makes it useful across different workflows. Billing is simple and with features being updated all the time, Clio seems to keep getting better almost every day.

Cons

Getting used to it can take some time but honestly that's pretty common with most software and technology in general.

Wide range of features

Pros

Clio works really well as a single source of truth for running a law practice. With Clio Grow, I can set up a lot of automated workflows that carry over smoothly into Clio Law Practice Management. The Clio Complete package includes almost every feature I need which makes it a very complete solution for my practice.

Cons

I'd really like support for uploading videos larger than 25GB since I need to store police bodycam and dashcam footage. It would also be much better if those videos could be viewed directly inside Clio, similar to Dropbox or Office 365 so I wouldn't have to download them every time I need to watch one or keep them saved on my computer when disk space is limited. I also wish my VOIP connection were built in natively instead of depending on a Chrome extension to link Clio with my VOIP system. That said I do appreciate that Clio supports the extension because it has saved me a lot of time compared with manually entering texts and phone calls into my billing system.

Responsive support team

Pros

Getting started with it has been very simple. It fits in well with our team and connects smoothly with the other products we already use which has made day-to-day work much easier. Their customer service is also incredibly responsive and helpful whenever questions come up.

Cons

Once the contract was signed, the implementation and sales team seemed to disappear and I ended up relying on regular support like everyone else. There was also a strong push to move everyone from LawPay to ClioPay without clearly telling us that ClioPay would not let us pass credit card fees on to payees. On top of that, feedback on some feature suggestions has been slower than I would prefer.
