5.0

Flexible metadata that fits everything

Pros

One of the biggest advantages of DocuXplorer is how flexible it is when it comes to setting up document metadata. We manage a wide mix of documents, from employee personal records to technical and mathematical files, along with hardware manuals and more. Since each of these document types needs very different metadata and taxonomy structures, that level of customization has been extremely valuable.

Cons

Getting used to the user interface took some time. On top of that, the Windows client can feel sluggish when we access it over our VPN.

5.0

responsive support every time

Pros

Whenever something comes up, their support team is fantastic and only an email away which makes getting help really reassuring.

Cons

Because I'm using an older system it does slow down from time to time but support is usually able to help fix it.

4.0

affordable document control powerhouse

Pros

DocuXplorer has been a budget-friendly yet capable option for handling documents and files and the support team is excellent when help is needed. Since it follows the familiar Windows file tree layout, getting around the system feels very natural. Folders can be structured with "index sets," which makes it possible to add custom fields like integers, dates, text, versions and more. Scanner support works without needing extra drivers or additional software and searches return results incredibly fast. Scanned files are saved as TIFFs which keeps file sizes small while still offering plenty of editing and markup features similar to Adobe Acrobat. Printing, exporting or emailing documents only takes a few clicks.

Cons

Better restoration and archival tools would make a big difference for administrators running it on-premise. There are also occasional server-to-client communication problems that trigger confusing error messages for users. It's also worth knowing that an on-premise DocuXplorer setup needs a high-speed local network connection since it will not work over VPN and is limited to Windows environments.

Fantastic digital file access

Pros

Using it day to day has been very user-friendly and having all of my files in a digital format makes them incredibly simple to store and locate whenever I need them.

Cons

Getting everything set up on my own was a bit challenging and I ended up needing help from the DocuXplorer team. That said their support was quick to reach, very simple to work with and everyone was genuinely helpful.

reliable support year after year

Pros

Our team has been very happy with DocuXplorer and from my side as the IT Manager, the support has been especially valuable.

Cons

Nothing really stands out as a downside. We've been using DX for years and the staff is very comfortable with the way it works.

5.0

affordable and very practical

Pros

At this price point, DocuXplorer has been really practical to use. It's simple, reasonably priced and I honestly haven't come across anything else comparable in the same range.

Cons

One limitation that has always bothered me is that you can't export selected information to another computer one file at a time..it's basically all or nothing. A good example was when I was in the hospital and needed to review certain tax return files along with the backup documents. Instead of copying just those individual files, everything had to be printed and my wife ended up carrying the paperwork back and forth between the office and the hospital. Being able to transfer specific files would have made that situation much more convenient.

5.0

Paperless archiving game changer

Pros

DocuXplorer has been a huge game changer for us when it comes to getting the same level of quantity and quality in the management information we need for archiving and metadata management. It works really well with Microsoft Office documents, accepts all kinds of electronic files and handles file imports flawlessly. Altogether, it's helping move us toward a truly paperless office and better data banking.

Cons

We're still looking forward to seeing workflow details and SMS alerts included in the future.

Document storage that works

Pros

Document organization and storage features are really solid and make it practical to keep everything in order.

Cons

Archiving side could be better especially when it comes to excluding files from daily backups. It also needs OCR for indexing our day-to-day documents.

Helpful team and flexible setup

Pros

Setting up has been very simple. We've been able to work closely with their team to tailor the system so it fits the way our company operates. Their staff has been wonderful to deal with and anytime a problem comes up, they respond quickly and stay on top of it.

Cons

The document search feels more difficult to use than I'd prefer. I'd really like it to function more like an internet search engine.

document access and expiry alerts

Pros

Keeping documents organized in one place works really well and getting to stored data is simple. The workflow actions for reminding us about document expiry are also very useful and help us stay on top of deadlines.

Cons

There are still a few workflow reminder features that could be added to make the system even more complete.

5.0

Simple setup and management

Pros

Getting DocuXplorer up and running is simple and it's simple to use and manage on a day-to-day basis.

Cons

The only downside I've heard from a few users is that we've configured it in a very standard tree format. That was a deliberate operational and compliance decision on our end though and it works really well for the people who rely on it.
