“not hard to understand”
Pros
What I really liked about this software is how easy it was to get the hang of. I didn't need any instructions to figure it out.
Cons
One thing I didn't like was how the software tried to integrate email. It would've been easier if I could just click a link to send an email directly.

“all links at one spot”
Pros
I love that all the important links I need are available in one spot. I use it for my online classes.
Cons
Only downside for me was the downtime for updates. However the notice for these shutdowns was always posted ahead of time.

“Gives teachers control”
Pros
It gives teachers a lot of control and customization options. I can set everything up and not worry about it later, which has been so helpful during the pandemic.
Cons
The new layout isn't ideal for small screens. Many students may be using tablets or Chromebooks so the limited screen space makes it harder to use.

“good range of features”
Pros
This software has a lot of features and everything was well-organized. I liked that all my classes were displayed and easy to access from the home page.
Cons
It took me a while to figure out how to use the program especially since it was such a big change from our previous system.

“love it!”
Pros
Appreciate how everything is so easy to find. Announcements from professors are available and everything I need for assignments is in one place. They also have an app so I can do my assignments right from my phone.
Cons
There's nothing I dislike about it. I love it all and I haven't faced any issues.

“Offers customization within teaching modules”
Pros
It's great that the software allows customization within the teaching modules. This makes it easy to mix text and videos. The quiz feature is also great and I like that students can't see answers or know what they got wrong until after submission.
Cons
What bothered me as a user was how long the pages took to load, which could have been my internet connection. It made switching between tasks during a quiz difficult. Also, sometimes the task completion didn't update and I had to refresh the page multiple times.

“course materials, discussion boards, assignments and grading in a single place”
Pros
I completed two online higher education courses using Brightspace. It's great that the course materials, discussion boards, assignments and grading/feedback are all integrated in one place.
Cons
Sometimes the interface can be hard to use. There's too much text on the landing page. I'd prefer buttons that take me directly to the sections I need, with a back to main page' button for convenience.

“tidy interface”
Pros
It's interface is tidy and well organized that allows both faculty and students to focus on what's important. Compared to other LMSs I've used, it's made great strides in offering meaningful visualizations and analytics on student progress. It looks and feels like a modern platform, standing out from the traditional ones that still feel stuck in the early 2000s. The mobile experience is also excellent.
Cons
One of my biggest issues was that I couldn't directly mark up student papers like I could with other LMSs. This is crucial for me to go paperless with grading so it was really frustrating. Even though I'm not an admin, I feel like D2L is more of a suite' of resources, which is a bit harder to manage than other LMSs I've used.

“communication with students made simple”
Pros
Found it really easy to use. I used it in my first semester as an adjunct professor. What I liked most was how easy it made communication with students, setting deadlines and letting students submit their work online.
Cons
The assignment submission page wasn't always simple. Students often had to scroll to the very bottom to find the submit button. I'm not sure if that was because of my college's template or if it's a D2L thing.

“ideal for trainings and tracking”
Pros
This blended LMS is perfect for corporate training, testing comprehension and tracking retention. It's even compatible with the Kirkpatrick model.
Cons
All LMS software has its quirks. When you overload it with features, it can affect the user experience.

“suits our requirements”
Pros
Brightspace has a neat UI and offers flexibility to suit our LMS needs. Both our faculty and students enjoy using it daily for course management. Our staff also like how open the platform is for integrating new features and handling data.
Cons
We've had some serious issues with the vendor-provided API in the past. When the API failed, it left us in a difficult spot. Fortunately, the newer version of the API seems much more reliable.

“Well-structured interface”
Pros
After switching from Merlin's Blackboard Learning platform (which was awful), I find Brightspace's interface much cleaner. The simplification of certain elements is also a big plus, along with the ease of updating pages as a teacher without needing to deal with coding.
Cons
It is new to me so I'm still figuring out some of the glitches compared to the Blackboard Learn platform we used before.

“not easy for students”
Pros
I love that setting up classes, shells and assignments is super easy and it's similar to Canvas in many ways so it's familiar to many users.
Cons
This software hasn't been as easy for students to use as others I've worked with. I've had complaints about not being able to find courses, old courses sticking around in menus after they're completed and not knowing where to start. With this platform, I've had to give more training to students on how to find materials and manage their work than I've had to with other systems.

“amazing features”
Pros
I've used Brightspace both as a student and as a teacher. When the faculty sets it up properly, it's super easy to use. The features really make the learning experience better.
Cons
Setting up each course takes quite a bit of time. It felt like I needed coding skills to really make the most of the features. We even have two full-time staff members dedicated to keeping the online classes running smoothly. On top of that the email system is overly complicated.

“Visually attractive”
Pros
The user interface is really easy on the eyes. It's simple to find all your files and content in one place plus you can easily communicate with other users and instructors.
Cons
It takes multiple screens to get to the information you need. There's no way to remove extra classes from the dashboard either.

“not difficult to move around”
Pros
What I love about it is how easy it is to get around. I have to go through multiple courses and it's so well-organized and categorized. It makes my schoolwork a lot easier. I never get confused about where to find things or how to get to them.
Cons
The only downside I can think of with Brightspace is the inability to access past courses and any work submitted within those courses. However I believe this is more of an issue with how the school is set up, rather than a problem with Brightspace itself.

“Great experience”
Pros
I used it for my online college courses. It's really userfriendly even for someone older like me who was worried about using software for online classes. It's friendly for everyone, no matter your age.
Cons
Honestly I can't think of a single thing I dislike about Brightspace D2L. My experience with it has been great.

“takes time to learn”
Pros
Has a fantastic LMS with tons of customization options. You can run an online or in-person class easily with it. From assignments to discussions, grading and group work, it's all integrated.
Cons
Isn't the easiest to use and it takes some time to get the hang of it. It also doesn't offer many tools for collaboration so I usually rely on Google Drive for group work with students.
