Our K-12 district has relied on Canvas for over ten years. We have grown alongside the company as it expanded into the K-12 space and we love the benefits we have received from being early adopters.

One of the biggest challenge right now is switching over from the old classic Quizzes to the new New Quizzes online assessment tool.

“essential for grades and homework tracking

Pros

I have used this platform since high school, throughout college and now in grad school as it's been incredibly useful! Before our school used it, we had no way to track our grades or homework progress and everything was done on paper. Once we started using it in high school, it was a huge help for students. A major advantage is being able to check our grades which is so important. Before we had to constantly ask our professors which was a struggle. Now we can check grades daily, submit homework online and learn from clearly structured modules. I also love that they have an app for phones and tablets, complete with alerts which makes it much easier to keep track of all my schoolwork.

Cons

Honestly there are not any real downsides. If I had to mention one, it would be the occasional update window that blocks access for a few hours.

It is very user-friendly, simple to set up and easy to share things on.

Umm it is not very well-known where I live so some institutions are hesitant to purchase a license for it.

Staying organized is really simple and I like the layout of each section as it is very user friendly.

Cons

Getting the hang of all its features takes a little time but once we are familiar with them, the platform is easy to use and manage.

As the company has grown, the quality and availability of their customer support techs and success managers have decreased.

I could easily monitor my courses, see which assignments I had finished and which ones I still needed to complete and submit.

There is nothing I can think of that needed changing. I thought it was perfectly fine just the way it was.

“Not customizable at all and offers zero support

It was already set up by my university which was convenient. I also liked the built-in messaging system.

Cons

Well there is no way to customize things, the modules do not save our progress or show what you have already seen and you cannot delete old classes. Getting help from support is difficult and professors find it overly complicated.

“clean interface with efficient grading

Pros

Being actively involved in teaching, the clean interface and simplicity are a huge plus. Organizing materials, creating assignments and quizzes and posting announcements is all efficient. Helpful extras like cloud sync, discussion boards and embedding videos are great for both instructors and students. The real lifesaver though is SpeedGrader which lets me review work, add comments and give detailed feedback making the whole grading process smooth and quick.

Cons

The notification system is a frequent annoyance. Announcements do show up for students but the alert is small and easy to overlook. Also while SpeedGrader is incredibly useful, it tends to run slowly with larger classes. These are the only small issues I have with the platform.

It really helped my son with his classwork and homework. The layout is nice and the whole thing was simple for him to use.

Cons

I do not have anything negative to say about it. Everything functions perfectly.

It is great how it brings all my kids online public school programs together into one place and gives them a space to communicate with their teachers.

Pros

Canvas LMS has been very convenient for my medical studies. Navigating the app is simple too and I use it for most of my homework, quizzes and tests without any trouble.

The system can be a bit buggy at times and will occasionally freeze up.

It has all the tools needed to organize course content which really helps make teacher-student interaction smoother.

Having the app and getting notifications for assignments is a big help. Plus I like that it alerts my phone when a new assignment is posted or a grade is updated. The calendar is also useful for keeping a chronological to-do list.

Cons

Finding our way around it is a bit confusing. Also the tabs are not very useful for locating the information you need.

The organization is amazing and I love how simple it is to access and switch between my different classes.

Some links on the left-hand menu like Big Blue Button and Collaborations, are pages I almost never use.

Finding course materials, assignments and grades is very user friendly and easy for everyone to use.

Cons

The discussion board gets the job done but its design feels old compared to newer communication platforms. So I feel like a more modern and engaging layout would really improve student participation.

Pros

It integrates well with our ERP (Ellucian's Colleague), and I find it pretty intuitive for both faculty and students. The mobile app is a big hit with students.

Cons

The price is on the higher side, which can be a drawback.

“CANVAS Review

Pros

One of the things I really like about CANVAS is how it saves my work and calculates my grades. As a student, it is really easy to return to my saved work and see what I need to score on a test or final.

Cons

One thing I do not like about CANVAS is the textbox. While it has plenty of options for typing, it often notifies me about a better optimized way to do it. Even though it looks better, it can be annoying at times.
