Unreliable system

Pros

I find their staff usually polite, though when I press them for concrete solutions they sometimes end the call abruptly which is frustrating when I'm trying to resolve a problem and need more than just surface-level help.

Cons

Unfortunately, I've found that the whole system is unreliable and often just doesn't work, I can run their test and have it report success, yet when I attempt the real exam it either fails to launch or stops working partway through and I end up caught in an exhausting loop of tech support to proctor to automated bot and back again, repeatedly retyping the same answers, I had to schedule three separate exams, one for each class, across four different days, tried three different networks and two different computers and only managed to complete one test successfully at one location, spending well over eighteen hours so far trying to get everything to function, we attend classes from home to accommodate our schedules, not to be expected to drive thirty miles just to find a T1 connection only to be kicked off or blocked by their system after performing the same troubleshooting steps and, in the end, being told that the problem is my connection even after I had just finished one test through them.

Glitchy platform & proctors

Pros

Honestly, I can't find a single feature of this software that I actually appreciate.

Cons

In my experience, the program is perpetually glitchy and the proctors themselves often come across as ill-informed, they'll enforce inconsistent testing standards and sometimes start fiddling with my computer which frequently causes essential software components to fail and breaks the connection between my exam software and this system. On top of that, I experience long wait times at least thirty percent of the time, especially when they summon one of their so-called 'tech experts' to try to patch up the recurring problems. While the service presumably exists to deter cheating, I can say that a determined person could still slip past their checks without much trouble. All told, I feel like it's a complete waste of money and it frustrates me that so many schools choose to depend on it.

Ongoing setup delays

Pros

Nothing has worked for me, I still haven't been able to sit my exam after more than two hours and the tech support has been utterly useless and unresponsive to my attempts to get help.

Cons

Everything has gone wrong, right now I'm still on a call with a proctor trying to get the exam started even though it was supposed to begin over two hours and ten minutes ago and after being handed off to several different proctors who have rebooted my machine half a dozen times, there's still no fix or explanation for the problem, chat and phone support have been completely ineffective and I've been left waiting without any resolution.

Rude, unhelpful proctor

Pros

Absolutely nothing at all, this was the worst experience I've ever had, I won't be coming back to this service, it's a total scam in my opinion, they only want your money and they took mine and completely screwed me over.

Cons

my proctor clearly didn't understand how to operate the program which left me waiting for over an hour before the exam could even start and when it finally did he was rude and refused to let me use the notes I had been allowed to use on my first exam.

High cost, frequent crashes

Pros

Honestly, nothing, my professors required me to use this service and on both occasions I ultimately had to take my exams in person on campus because the platform failed to function when I needed it.

Cons

I dislike everything about this company, having to pay upwards of ten dollars simply to have someone watch me take a test strikes me as ridiculous and the platform repeatedly crashes just before I start which then forces me to spend more than an hour and a half on hold with IT while they try and fail to diagnose the issue, the people handling refund inquiries were rude and dismissive and overall this is a terrible platform that I strongly advise against using.

proctoring feels like an intrusive privacy invasion

Pros

Using this tool makes testing genuinely easy and I appreciated that the proctor could easily confirm environmental conditions without issue. Also, walking through an exam from home felt especially comfortable thanks to it which gives users flexibility and convenience when completing tests and other assignments. This platform has solved bottlenecks at testing centers and it has become our preferred solution for online or remote exams. The platform lets students sit their supervised final exam of the year while away and I like that learners can progress through online courses at their own pace. With this tool in place, students are able to take their final, most important exam once they finish all of their coursework. Still, the best part of it for me is the staff, excellent support, fast response times and a willingness to listen to constructive feedback and fold feature requests into software updates. The manual process has been eliminated which dramatically cuts down the time spent preparing and grading the exam and the entire workflow speeds up from hours to seconds in many different real world situations.

Cons

The main drawback is the intrusive, inconsistent proctor interaction with your personal computer which often seems to have permission to do everything. My biggest frustrations involve proctors who do not take the time to understand test rules and who will refuse the use of notes in otherwise open-book assessments until I vigorously argue that they are allowed. I've experienced 2-3 hour delays caused by mistakes on this tool's end. Responses from the proctor are frequently slow because they are clearly monitoring multiple exams concurrently. Their system works only on two specific browsers and requires enabling an extension. At times the proctor claimed ignorance of the conditions for invigilated exams and ran sessions from inadequate locations. Frankly, I view it as an invasion of privacy.

Quick, helpful proctor

Pros

Today I just passed my Reading and Listening exam using this platform and my proctor was really helpful, answering every question I had, it only took about ten minutes to complete the equipment, laptop and room checks and even while I was mid-exam I asked what felt like a few silly questions about the remaining time and the blue bar and received an immediate reply, so I'm quite grateful for the service.

Cons

Even though my equipment check had passed perfectly about three hours before the exam, when I attempted to rerun the same test roughly ten minutes beforehand I encountered a problem that prevented me from completing it which understandably made me feel a little nervous.

Nightmarish pre-test experience

Pros

I experienced absolutely nothing positive.

Cons

Using Proctor U felt like an actual nightmare from the moment I logged in and ran the pre-test checks that all showed green, because the second the proctor took remote control of my computer every single component inexplicably stopped functioning, leaving me scrambling while precious test time ticked away. It was infuriating to watch the clock keep running even while the proctor fiddled with so-called "tech" fixes and that pressure made me panic more than focus on the exam itself. Communication was equally awful, the proctors came across as rude and dismissive and several times I felt like they were speaking in a language I couldn't follow which gave the odd impression of being in a busy shop where people are gossiping about you rather than helping. Account notes I had left were ignored and they consistently seemed unable to diagnose or actually resolve the problems they caused on their end, so troubleshooting became a loop with no outcome. In my view this setup is totally unsuitable for serious testing and ranks as the worst platform I've ever had to use. To make matters worse, this tool is tied to Real Estate U which in my experience is far from ideal, their materials are outdated, quiz answers are sometimes plainly wrong and they delay approving quiz attempts because students can't independently verify their data. I would steer clear of both services, save yourself the headache and opt for a reputable real estate course instead, based on what I went through, all the other negative reviews are, regrettably, spot on.

Unprofessional, anxiety-inducing service

Pros

Sometimes it actually works, I've seen it allow students to sit their exams on occasion, yet more often than not it fails to operate correctly, leaving many unable to complete assessments.

Cons

Service unprofessional and unnecessarily heightens exam anxiety, because I've noticed people spending more time worrying about whether the platform will function than focusing on their actual exams which ultimately undermines the educational purpose of university study.

Privacy violation concerns

Pros

Although it initially appears promising on paper, I have found it to be unpredictably unreliable and ultimately not something I can place my trust in.

Cons

I have personally experienced instances where proctors overstep boundaries, rifling through private files on my computer while I was briefly away during invigilated exam bathroom breaks which felt like a severe privacy violation.

Inconsistent proctor knowledge

Pros

Honestly, it's hard for me to find much good to say about its advantages, while it does help reduce cheating, the drawbacks outweigh that benefit.

Cons

In my experience and hearing from a number of peers at the University of Queensland, using this service has caused serious problems that I wouldn't dismiss lightly. What bothers me most is that proctors frequently don't take the time to learn exam rules and will outright refuse to allow notes in an open-book test until the student successfully argues their case which is both stressful and time-consuming. I've also seen students delayed for two to three hours because of mistakes on this tool's end and when someone needs to use the bathroom they're expected to leave their computer logged in and give remote control to the proctor which forces me to rely entirely on their trustworthiness, there is no great guarantee they won't access or misuse my personal files and information.

Overcomplicated workflow

Pros

For my work, it really helps lift the quality of my PowerPoint projects, adding visual polish and functionality I wouldn't have had otherwise.

Cons

Using it, I often have to navigate a lot of fiddly steps just to accomplish easy tasks which makes the experience feel unnecessarily complicated.

Invasive proctoring experience

Pros

The concept seems convenient, yet I find it extremely invasive and unsettling.

Cons

To be blunt, my experience felt invasive, because a random proctor can connect to my personal laptop and appears to have permission to do virtually anything which made me uncomfortable. I ended up losing about three hours of my time when the proctor couldn't figure out why they couldn't see my webcam and the whole back-and-forth was frustratingly slow since their replies were always delayed, they were probably juggling several exams at once. Their platform only works on two specific browsers and requires that you enable a browser extension beforehand. Be aware that they keep your exam videos for roughly a year unless you go through a cumbersome opt-out, I strongly recommend reading their privacy policy. Also, don't disable your firewall or antimalware/antivirus, you only need to turn off your VPN.

unresolved support issues

Pros

I appreciated that their team replied immediately to my inquiry, even though they ultimately couldn't fix the issue.

Cons

I spent about an hour and a half on live chat with support trying to get a technical problem sorted and despite staying on the line they were unable to fix it from their end, then they cancelled my test to reschedule, only for me to learn afterward that the cancellation would be recorded as a failure on my record and that I was not allowed to rebook. They had me waiting on the line for an extraordinary amount of time during both chat sessions and, rather than improving the situation, their actions seemed to make it worse, leaving me to pick up the pieces and figure out a resolution myself, I also discovered that others are reporting the same problems which suggests this is not an isolated incident. I cannot recommend this company and I'm honestly surprised Google would partner with a service that handles things in such a careless and disruptive way.

May 2020

Proctors unprepared & unhelpful

Pros

Nothing about it seems good and I honestly can't find a single redeeming feature.

Cons

After waiting nearly an hour for my exam, the proctor who had been chatting on the phone with me the whole time finally told me I needed to reschedule because they couldn't locate where my test was supposed to appear. It was literally just two lines of instructions that I could have found myself in a couple of seconds if I'd been allowed to look. I wasn't late, yet between the three different proctors involved, none of them knew how to perform their basic duties. I'm demanding a refund instead of another appointment and I'd prefer to drive two hours to the next testing center rather than ever rely on this website again.

Wasted time, repeated failures

Pros

So far, I haven't found a single thing I like about it, otherwise I would have given it a higher rating.

Cons

Getting started on my exam takes far longer than it should and after using their service four times I was only able to actually sit for the exam twice because of issues originating on this tool's end. I ended up wasting more than four hours waiting for a session that ultimately failed to start, only to learn that their mistake had enabled or otherwise blocked the test. When I reached out for an explanation, all I received was a generic, copy-and-paste response that gave me no real answers. I wouldn't recommend spending your time or money with this tool.

Overly invasive & unhelpful

Pros

On paper, the idea is strong and appealing but when I see how it's implemented, it feels like a nightmare.

Cons

I feel it's overly invasive of students privacy and during the exam it simply didn't work for me, in addition, it offered almost no help to either professors or students which was incredibly frustrating.

Reliable human support

Pros

It's reassuring to know there's a real human on the other end who can help me whenever technical problems arise during an exam.

Cons

For me, the initial login is infuriating because it often fails to load on the first attempt, forcing me to refresh the page and sign in again while the various environment checks just keep spinning instead of showing the completed checkmarks.
