Maybe powerful, but VERY painful to use
Pros

Modular approach to learning objects seemed like a great idea in theory. I liked the concept but the actual implementation is awkward and frustrating.

Cons

Xyleme is buggy, poorly designed and very slow.

Truly awful software.
Pros

There is not much that I like. Though the exporting of courses was slightly more streamlined.

Cons

Being stuck with this awful software for several years was a poor experience. Entering courses was a lenghty and frustrating process. The interface was complex, confusing and gave me headaches after looking at it for hours. The performance was the worst and the application would frequently crash. I had to expose my machine to JAVA security risks just to get this poor software to run. I cannot emphasize enough how this is the worst software I have ever used.

Disappointing
Pros

My experience with Xylemes support team has been very positive. They are professional, friendly and helpful. The single sourcing concept is promising and could save us a lot of time but the editor is so slow and unreliable that it ends up taking twice as long to produce content. Our content team uses a different tool to write drafts because Xylemes performance and user experience are so lacking, and then we manually transfer the content which doubles our workload.

Cons

User experience design is quite clunky and not very intuitive. also there are not enough shortcuts like those found in most modern authoring or CMS software. It feels outdated and even the user interface design is not great. The image quality of some icons on the toolbar in the web editor is so poor and blurry that its hard to discern what they are. The performance of both the web and desktop editors is very slow compared to most current software. Even after loading, I often spend a lot of time waiting for things to load whether its a project, a preview or a topic. This slow performance undermines the purpose of a tool thats supposed to save time.

Game-changer for organisations seeking a robust (and outcome-driven) content strategy
Pros

Xyleme's single-sourcing capability is a revolutionary tool for any organization. It transforms all existing content into endless potential. For those serious about moving beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to learning and engaging a diverse audience, Xyleme is unbeatable.

Cons

Xyleme demands a significant mental shift, while it is not hard to use, it's most effective when new instructional design skills are applied (like design thinking, object-oriented design, and data analysis). It can be a challenge for those who haven't yet mastered these skills, requiring upskilling and ongoing development for learning professionals (but hey, we're in the business of learning, so we should love to learn, right?).

Far too many bugs and problems to be useful
Pros

Well the idea behind Xyleme is solid. As the concept of creating reusable learning objects has the potential to save a lot of time in content development.

Cons

Xyleme is full of bugs which makes it so useless that I end up wasting more time than I save with any content reuse. The interface is far from intuitive. Even simple tasks like editing a bulleted list can be confusing. Creating bullets should be simpl, but with Xyleme, its actually quite difficult. I often spend hours trying to get an image overlay to look right, only for it to be misaligned after publishing. Many features are broken and some can even corrupt your content (for example, avoid resizing images with the buttons and be very cautious with the undo button). The features are also quite basic. For instance the overlay editor lets you annotate images but only offers very simple shapes like rectangles, circles and text. My old Macintosh from the 90s could do more than that. The quality of the interface feels like Xyleme is aiming for mediocrity. Many features are poorly executed as if the developers did just enough to meet a requirement without ensuring they functioned smoothly or usefully. For example the spellcheck feature does not let you suggest a word so if Xylemes dictionary does not have a word that you need, there is nothing you can do. Similarly, in the overlay editor you can align objects to the left or top but not to the right or center. It feels like the developers did the minimum necessary to claim the feature exists.Top of FormBottom of Form
