Modular approach to learning objects seemed like a great idea in theory. I liked the concept but the actual implementation is awkward and frustrating.

Xyleme is buggy, poorly designed and very slow.

Pros

There is not much that I like. Though the exporting of courses was slightly more streamlined.

Cons

Being stuck with this awful software for several years was a poor experience. Entering courses was a lenghty and frustrating process. The interface was complex, confusing and gave me headaches after looking at it for hours. The performance was the worst and the application would frequently crash. I had to expose my machine to JAVA security risks just to get this poor software to run. I cannot emphasize enough how this is the worst software I have ever used.

Pros

My experience with Xylemes support team has been very positive. They are professional, friendly and helpful. The single sourcing concept is promising and could save us a lot of time but the editor is so slow and unreliable that it ends up taking twice as long to produce content. Our content team uses a different tool to write drafts because Xylemes performance and user experience are so lacking, and then we manually transfer the content which doubles our workload.

Cons

User experience design is quite clunky and not very intuitive. also there are not enough shortcuts like those found in most modern authoring or CMS software. It feels outdated and even the user interface design is not great. The image quality of some icons on the toolbar in the web editor is so poor and blurry that its hard to discern what they are. The performance of both the web and desktop editors is very slow compared to most current software. Even after loading, I often spend a lot of time waiting for things to load whether its a project, a preview or a topic. This slow performance undermines the purpose of a tool thats supposed to save time.
