Reports worth every dollar

Pros

Running paid search across multiple clients without Semrush would be hard to imagine. The visual reporting is outstanding and makes it easy to create clear, client-friendly reports I can share without much extra work. The data it provides is incredibly valuable for building campaigns and scaling them effectively. On top of that, every time I've reached out to support, the response has been quick and genuinely helpful.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve if you haven't worked with similar tools before but once you get familiar withit, itbecomes extremely powerful.

a complete marketing toolkit

Pros

It covers just about everything you need from a marketing tool. The free plan already lets you do a lot of the data research needed for your website. I ended up using several accounts to gather data and analyze my site since the free version has limits and they are quite restrictive.

Cons

I couldn't find a single all-in-one analysis package for a website. You have to pay for extra tools, even when you know you won't actually use all of them.

overpriced tools

Pros

After trying several features during the trial, I requested a refund multiple times but every request was denied and they still charged me for the full year. I asked three separate times and got rejected each time. For a platform that costs thousands of dollars, the tools felt useless and nowhere near worth even half of the listed price. I'll be switching to AHREF instead. I am still new to SEO so this was a hard lesson learned. Stay away.

Cons

Bad in every way. I would not recommendit.

Detailed SEO analysis tool

Pros

From keyword research to backlink auditing, Semrush gives very detailed analysis that's useful across the board. It's also very handy for managing local listings and the content analysis tools do a good job of helping identify keyword gaps.

Cons

One of the biggest downside is the cost which feels quite high. I'd also like to see more real-time data updates and the Plus pricing and package structure could be explained more clearly.

Complete SEO all one place

Pros

The platform covers a lot in one place, including site analysis, keyword research, SEO metrics, site health diagnostics, search rankings and competitor tracking. It gives me a strong overall view of performance and helps with both optimization and monitoring.

Cons

The interface isn't very user-friendly. With so much data packed intoit, itcan feel overwhelming at times and makes navigation harder thanitshould be.

provide accurate data

Pros

After nearly two years of using Semrush, it still feels very easy to work with. The newer features they've introduced have been a nice addition but the biggest advantage for me is how accurate and detailed the data is. That level of insight makes it especially useful when starting new projects. On top of that, their customer support team replies quickly and has been genuinely helpful whenever needed.

Cons

Becauseitincludes so many features, itcan feel a bit overwhelming for beginners at first and the pricing may come across as high for freelancers and small businesses.

Complete tool and always improving

Pros

It is a complete tool. It lets me do keyword research, analyze competitors, track rankings, run technical website audits and a lot more. The platform is also updated regularly with useful new features which makes it even more valuable over time.

Cons

The pricing can be a barrier for freelancers or smaller businesses and the interface may feel a bit complex at first for beginners.

Tracks momentum versus competitors

Pros

Keeping track of keyword positions and comparing our performance against competitors has been very useful because it shows exactly where we're gaining momentum and where we're falling behind. The content templates have also been a big help when planning blog strategy and shaping topics more effectively.

Cons

Interface can feel a bit cramped since there are so many tools packed intoit. On top of that, if you need additional projects or more reports, the pricing increases pretty sharply.

Refund process took long

Pros

I gave it a try because the platform is very complete but honestly it felt like more than I needed. To test it, I had to pay upfront and then request a refund and that refund took over 10 days to arrive.

Cons

My time usingitwas pretty short since I ended up cancelling the subscription.Itfelt a little too expensive for me especially because I didn't really need the full bundle of toolsitoffers.

Easy competitor analysis choice

Pros

One thing that really worked well for me was how easy it was to run competitive analysis. In short Semrush ended up being a great choice for that kind of work.

Cons

The downside is the pricing which feels expensive and the free version doesn't offer anything very useful. Also, the so-called free trial isn't really a true trial sinceit's basically just a refund if you're not satisfied.

Broad marketing feature coverage

Pros

It comes with a wide range of features that can really support a business not just with SEO but also with advertising research which makes it useful across more than one area of marketing.

Cons

Pricing is whereitgets tough. The base cost is already fairly high and a lot of the extra features come with additional monthly charges that are also expensive. If those add-ons were priced a bit lower, smaller agencies like mine would probably be able to use more of them.

Simple layout shows issues

Pros

Semrush gives a thorough view of website analytics and the layout is simple to navigate so spotting issues and figuring out what needs to be changed doesn't take much effort.

Cons

The website scores can fluctuate at random sometimes and while this may be more of a search engine limitation, pages with similar descriptions still get flagged even when that's hard to avoid.

helps find new organic opportunities

Pros

From organic traffic assessment to keyword research, this tool covers a lot. It helps analyze traffic volume, keyword difficulty, find alternative keywords, compare website performance against competitors, build reports and uncover new organic traffic opportunities. It also saves a lot of time during keyword research and the AI features add extra value by showing whether a website has a chance to rank for a keyword and what should be optimized.

Cons

Since we work in a smaller country with our own language, a lot of keyword data is not consistently available. On top of that, the reports rely on the database so the numbers and insights are not always completely accurate.

Easy to navigate platform

Pros

Even with so many tools and features packed into the platform, the site is very easy to navigate. It is also organized and never becomes overwhelming to use.

Cons

The reporting side didn't work for what I needed especially whenitcame to exporting and building client reports.Itwas missing the kind of reporting options I was looking for.

shady cancellation policy

Pros

Honestly there is not much I can point to as a positive. The updated design does look nicer and more modern but beyond that, I don't really have anything else to add.

Cons

One thing that really bothered me was the nonstop push toward additional upgrade services.Itfeels like the product is constantly being upsold and the cancellation policy comes across as a complete scam.

frustrating cancellation and clunky UI

Pros

It worked reasonably well for optimizing blog posts for SEO and the platform definitely includes a huge range of features. That said there's so much packed into it that getting around can feel overwhelming. It almost feels like you need a degree just to know how to use Semrush properly. That becomes a real issue when other tools including some competitors, are much more user friendly. So I feel like a beginner-friendly interface would make a big difference or at least some way to unlock the more advanced parts gradually instead of throwing everything at users at once.

Cons

There's a lot that didn't sit right with me. The article SEO optimization is fine but honestly a free GPT tool gets me about the same results and paid GPT performs noticeably better. The image suggestion feature inside the article builder is especially bad.Itfeels like outdated generative AI from years ago, as ifithasn't been improved since release. The output is basically unusable and even the better results still have that obvious low-quality AI look. The biggest problem though, is the cancellation process.Itfeels completely outdated and doesn't line up with FTC expectations around one-click cancellation. I contacted support aboutitand kept getting the same robotic response, That's just what our policy is. Instead of being able to cancel directly from the subscription page, I had to open a chat request, then fill out a form explaining why I wanted to cancel and confirmitthere and then click another confirmation through email. Even after doing all of that, I was told I hadn't shown clear intent to cancel so I got charged for another month. I explained multiple times that this process should not work this way and appears to violate FTC guidance but that concern was completely ignored and all I got back were canned replies.

Complete digital marketing hub

Pros

To me it looks like a complete digital marketing hub. As it gives me everything in one place, from keyword research, competitor tracking and SEO audits to content inspiration and ad analysis, all within just a few clicks. The part I appreciate most is how well it turns raw data into clear next steps. I can quickly understand what's performing, what isn't and where to focus next. On top of that, it helps me present smarter insights to clients and makes me look more prepared and effective.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any complaints. I've useditfor years anditkeeps improving over time. The team consistently adds new ideas and features soitnever feels like the product is standing still.

Powerful tools in one organized place

Pros

Semrush brings together powerful tools for keyword research, technical audits, rank tracking and competitor analysis in one place. Everything is centralized and well organized which makes the platform very efficient to use.

Cons

The subscription is fairly expensive especially for smaller budgets. There's also a lot of information to process which can feel overwhelming when you're just starting out.

comes with reliable SEO tools

Pros

It gives access to a very broad set of SEO tools. Like the site audit is responsive, the keyword suggestions are strong, rank tracking is reliable, the reports are ready to share and the project management side is practical when several people are working together.

Cons

There's a bit of a learning curve whenitcomes to sorting through so many metrics, the subscription feels expensive if you only needitfor a one-time check and the interface can look crowded once all the modules are turned on.

Essential for SEO audit and insights

Pros

When it comes to improving SEO, Semrush feels essential. The site audit tool provides really valuable insights into your website making it much easier to spot issues, fix them and optimize everything for better performance. I also appreciate how quickly you can pull competitive analysis for just about any website.

Cons

One thing I'd still want to see improved is the competitor advertising analysis. From what I've seen, itmainly focuses on Google search keywords and I'd prefer a broader, more complete view of a competitor's overall digital advertising footprint.
