“provides competitor comparison data”
Pros
Semrush delivers broad, reliable data that makes comparing competitors very easy. It's also very helpful for looking at different country markets side by side and picking up useful insights quickly. The traffic estimates stand out as especially valuable and dependable.
Cons
The interface can look a bit challenging at times but thats only a small downside overall. That said I have noticed improvements over the past few months.

“outstanding keyword data”
Pros
One of the biggest strengths is the outstanding search volume data which helps us find high converting retail keywords and also generate fresh ideas for small businesses online.
Cons
Website building and admin features feel like they were added later without much focus and customer support tends to be slow whenever we run into urgent account security concerns.

“Deep keyword data reveals gaps”
Pros
The depth and quality of the keyword data is excellent and it helps us focus on specific shipping routes that competitors currently aren't targeting.
Cons
I find the subscription quite costly especially for a small business and the interface can feel overwhelming at times for someone who isn't a marketing professional.

“quite steep learning curve”
Pros
Semrush is clearly a very powerful and full featured SEO platform. Plus it comes with an impressive set of tools and a lot of data. So yes I can understand why it would be very valuable for experienced SEO professionals or teams using it regularly. The depth of its features and analytics shows it was built with advanced use cases in mind.
Cons
After resubscribing, I quickly realized this experience would be very different from the brief time I had used it before with an assistant helping me. This time I was trying to handle it on my own as a solo small business owner. Within just two days, it became obvious that I did not have the time, technical knowledge or ability to use it effectively. I contacted customer support almost right away, explained that I hadn't actually used the tool and asked for a refund. I was polite and upfront. I made it clear that even though this was a resubscription, my earlier use had been with help and this was really my first attempt to use it on my own. Even though I made the request within two days, the refund was denied because the plan was monthly instead of annual. The issue was escalated, then closed as final, with no chance to reconsider. I understand that companies have policies but this felt unusually strict given the very short two-day window, the fact that I hadn't used the product and the reality that the platform is marketed heavily to small business owners while still having a very steep learning curve. It may be a good fit for experienced SEO professionals or larger teams but it is not beginner-friendly and not very forgiving for solo business owners who quickly realize it's not the right match. I would strongly advise other small business owners to understand the refund rules in advance and to be honest about whether they really have the time and expertise needed to get value from this platform.

“Not beginner friendly at all”
Pros
It includes strong keyword research, great competitor analysis, flexible reporting and works well as an all in one SEO and marketing toolkit.
Cons
At the same timeitcan be a bit overwhelming at first, lower-tier plans come with data limits and some of the tools are not especially user friendly for beginners.

“Shady refusal of cancellation refund”
Pros
I only tried it briefly during the trial and there are plenty of other platforms out there that offer similar features.
Cons
Dealing with customer support was an absolute nightmare. I am clearly not the only one saying that either, just check the Google reviews. I cancelled well within the free trial period, with more than enough time left and they still charged me hundreds of dollars. They've refused to refund the money and keep using shady tactics to give me the runaround. From what I understand, that goes against the FTC's one-click cancellation law. I would strongly recommend not giving them your business. The issue has already been reported to the proper authorities and the Federal Trade Commission.

“misleading cancellation process”
Pros
The platform may have some value but the cancellation policy, poor transparency around automated messages and refusal to refund even after a timely cancellation attempt are serious warning signs. So I'd strongly suggest reading all the fine print and being very careful before signing up.
Cons
Trying to cancel my subscription turned into a really frustrating experience. I made the cancellation attempt before the renewal charge but I was billed anyway and then told I would not get a refund. The worst part was the cancellation process itself. The system kept sending the same automated email again and again without ever moving to the next step. The companyalso never clearly explains that those email replies are AI generated which feels misleading and ends up wasting a lot of time. Nothing actually progressed until I directly asked to speak to a human and that isn't made clear anywhere during the cancellation flow. Even after following the process and trying to cancel in good faith before the charge went through, they still refused to refund me. On top of that they seem to charge extra for every little thing.

“Secure for freelancers”
Pros
Running my freelance content writing business has become much easier with Semrush because it gives me an all-in-one platform for almost everything I need. I feel comfortable using it because the platform is secure and I know my account and project details are protected. It's definitely not the cheapest option but the range of features makes it worth the cost. I don't have to bounce between multiple tools anymore. Their customer support has also been quick to respond and genuinely helpful whenever I've needed assistance. One feature I really appreciate is the site audit tool since it lets me monitor my website's health and understand what needs fixing. Using it has really helped me grow and scale my content writing business.
Cons
The biggest downside is the price which can be hard to justify for freelancers or small businesses. Also becauseitincludes so many features and data points, itcan feel overwhelming at first and takes some time for beginners to fully learn.

“Tracks AI and search performance”
Pros
Semrush is currently the only keyword research platform I've seen that shows how content performs across both AI tools like ChatGPT and traditional search. That's a huge advantage for SEO in 2025 and beyond especially if you create a lot of content and need to understand visibility across multiple platforms.
Cons
Pricing is the hardest part. Even thoughitdoes justify the cost and gives great value for what you get, the monthly subscription is still pretty expensive for a small business owner like me compared with other tools. That said most cheaper options only handle half or even a third of whatitcan do.

“Accurate data helps make strategies”
Pros
The data quality has been one of the most valuable parts for me. The tools are also very accurate and I rely heavily on several features that help me create strategies for my clients. It also gives me confidence in the data and in the work I am doing inside the platform.
Cons
I feel like the biggest downside is the pricing, along with how difficultitcan be to pause the service. There are times when I need to putiton hold andit's not as simple asitshould be to just pause the subscription.

“all-in-one marketing powerhouse”
Pros
It really feels like a Swiss Army knife for getting the most out of digital marketing and competitive intelligence. You get keyword research, on-page SEO, off-page SEO, local SEO, SEM, visibility and traffic analysis for online projects social media marketing, AI assisted SEO-friendly content generation and plenty of other tools all in one platform.
Cons
The downside is the pricing structure. Even though some features can be added modularly depending on what you want to turn on, the base plan already includes a lot of functions I barely use. I'd much rather see a more modular starting price or at least a lower monthly option.

Pros
Getting around it is easy and I can check the insights I need without any hassle. It saves me a lot of time and helps me make better decisions.

“Practical tool overall”
Pros
Semrush delivers very strong data and one of the best parts is how practical it is when working with actual clients. I use it to show businesses where they currently stand in SEO, how they compare to competitors and where the real growth opportunities are. It has helped me bring in new clients by clearly showing the tools and process behind my work. It has been a key part of improving websites and blogs through keyword research, competitor analysis and small weekly optimizations that build results over time. It feels like a hands-on tool for long-term growth, not something that just creates reports.
Cons
At the beginning, itcan be a bit intimidating simply because there are so many tools packed intoit. That said the support team is extremely helpful and does a great job of guiding you throughit, starting with the core features before moving into the smaller tools that can still make a difference. I would often record support sessions and watch them again later because there is a lot of useful information and advice to take in at once. The better you learnit, the more value you end up getting fromit.

“terrible support!”
Pros
A few years back, the platform was decent when it actually worked properly. At that time it wasn't bad at all. But now the support has become awful. A very obvious fault was never fixed and instead of addressing it, they kept replying that there was no issue even though the error was clearly there.
Cons
Lately, we've been seeing bigger and bigger discrepancies along with major gaps in the data compared with every other tool we use. In some cases, the data is not just inaccurate,it's completely missing. A clear example is the Position Tracking tool which is the feature we rely on the most. For one keyword in the same location, Google Keyword Planner shows a search volume of 590, whileitshowsitas 0. Across multiple client accounts, many of the main keywords in position tracking are also showing 0 volume which makes the traffic metrics look terrible even though those campaigns are actually performing really well. I reported the issue to support right after my renewal but they dragged their replies out over two weeks despite several follow-ups. Then they refused to refund my $5k renewal becauseithad gone past their strict 7-day refund window. The problem is, I raised the issue just two days after renewing and madeitclear I was giving them a chance to fix the problem and update my campaigns before asking for a refund. I handleditfairly but the whole situation feels like a scam to me. At this point, I seethe companyas completely untrustworthy. I'd strongly suggest staying away. There are far better tools available and we've already switched away and won't be going back.

“provide clear view of organic AI traffic”
Pros
Getting a clear view of organic and AI-driven traffic is where this tool really shines. It's also very useful for researching high-volume keywords for websites. Overall it has been one of the best tools I've used.
Cons
The pricing is quite expensive for small business owners and the basic plan only allows a limited number of project users to be added.

“charged before proving value”
Pros
At first the tools looked fairly easy to use but they weren't really usable during the trial so it was impossible to properly assess the platform.
Cons
They seemed perfectly willing to take payment and disappear, even during the trial period. Nobody from the company contacted us to guide us throughit which honestly felt intentional.

“worked well for us!”
Pros
Having the core SEO tools in one platform has worked very well for us. The Pro plan gives us a clear picture of site health, keyword positions and basic competitor visibility without needing to jump between different tools. Running site audits, tracking keywords and doing simple competitor checks is pretty easy and the results are simple to understand. For a small B2B SaaS team without a large in-house SEO function, that's been especially valuable. Once everything is set up, it's simple to keep an eye on SEO performance over time and catch issues before they become bigger problems.
Cons
There's a lot of power init but the interface and pricing setup can be confusing if you're not initevery day.Ittakes time to figure out which features and usage limits actually matter for your needs and how the add-ons fit in with the main subscription. We ran into some confusion around add-ons like SERP Gap Analyzer and Local Pro especially in terms of how they affected our renewal. Early on, support seemed more focused on explaining refund policy than resolving the root of the issue. Tothe company's credit, once the matter was escalated, they removed the add-ons we didn't need and applied full account credits for those charges which I appreciated. Still, I'd really like to see clearer add-on visibility and simpler management options in the UI especially for business customers.

“refund denied despite loyalty”
Pros
It is easy to navigate and the tracking tools are powerful enough to test everything from SEO performance to online rankings.
Cons
Customer experience clearly is not a priority here. I was demoingitto a client and trying to get them to move forward withit and I've already broughtthe companyplenty of business through multiple accounts in the past. Even so, when I asked for a refund just a few hours after the initial charge, itwas denied. There wasn't much appreciation for the fact that I've opened several customer accounts with them.

Pros
The website review tools are very useful for checking that pages and links aren't broken and they also help a lot with content optimization and SEO improvements.
Cons
One thing that slows me down is thatitdoesn't clearly point out exactly where the error is on the page so I end up spending extra time tracking down the issue and figuring out whether the warning is actually legitimate.
