best project tracking experience

Pros

Out of all the project management and version control tools I've used, this one has been the best by far.

Cons

The only downside is that, unfortunately, there's no mobile app support at all.

visible version control and ci/cd

Pros

Version control and DevOps pipeline maintenance are the strongest parts for me especially because the visibility into CI/CD is so much better and the implementation is simple.

Cons

The weaker area is how well it works with other third-party software tools.

essential for team versioning

Pros

It is pretty much essential when you're building and developing a software project. It does more than just keep your version history organized, you can also review the changes made by other users. Also, working across different branches helps prevent your work from clashing with teammates who are handling other parts of the software.

Cons

To get the best use out of it, you really need to understand Git commands and syntax. For instance, you should know how to decide what to add, create a commit, check status, see which branch you're on and handle pulls, pushes and similar actions.

rich platform for complete development

Pros

This tool has a very rich set of features that lets teams handle the full software development process, from planning all the way through building, in one single platform.

Cons

It does cost more than some other options but as far as the product itself goes, I really haven't run into anything I dislike.

secure code and helpful branching

Pros

One of the things I appreciated most about It was being able to keep my code protected and come back to update it whenever I needed. Creating a separate branch before adding a new feature to the main source code was also really useful since it let me test and work on changes first. Also, being able to follow ongoing projects and even contribute to them was especially valuable as a beginner.

Cons

Getting started with it was a little challenging at first. That said it offers plenty of tutorials that make the learning process much easier. It didn't take long before I understood how it worked and was able to start using it properly.

fast and reliable

Pros

It gives me a lot of flexibility especially when it comes to connecting with tools like JIRA and Slack. The interface feels really well designed and the app runs very quickly with almost no downtime at all. I've used it in professional projects as well as during my time as a student and it has worked really well in both situations.

Cons

At times, tracking issues in it can be a bit difficult.

excellent visibility into code changes

Pros

Perhaps its the most recognized Git platform and it offers a huge amount of reliable detail around source code commits which is very useful for security reviews. Whether using the command line or the GUI, it's simple to look through new code changes making it easier to spot modifications and potentially vulnerable areas. It also makes it clear to see exactly what changed in the source code after a security fix so understanding how the fix was implemented is much simpler.

Cons

Maybe its a bit tough for new users because the initial learning curve is real. After the onboarding is fully understood though, the product becomes much easier to work with. Tasks like cloning repositories, creating forks or branches, pushing code changes and opening pull requests still take attention to detail and some practice.

powerful version control

Pros

There's a lot to appreciate about this product. Its version control is especially useful since it lets you keep track of code changes and makes debugging much more manageable especially when working on newer versions of your code. Collaboration is another big plus and I regularly rely on it for code reviews with other people. Github Pages is also a feature I really enjoy because it lets you put your portfolio online for free and keep it live on the web. Also, for anyone who prefers not to work in the console, Github Desktop gives access to almost all the important features without needing to open the command line.

Cons

At this point, I've been happy with all of the features I've used in this product.

Impressive workflow automation

Pros

It does a really good job automating workflow logging and document management, whether you're working individually, with a team or across a development-focused company.

Cons

Takes time to get comfortable. To really work faster with the existing features, you need to rely on the CLI and remember a lot of commands which makes it feel difficult to use at first.

private repos with flexible ci

Pros

Ever since Microsoft acquired it, hosting private projects has become possible at no extra cost and it works well with different CI setups like Github Actions or CircleCI.

Cons

The web IDE still feels pretty weak and free private projects come with a contributor limit.

Has a nice community

Pros

Whether you're into web development software development, coding, hacking or just starting to learn, Github.com can be a huge help. There's a massive range of developers sharing their code there which gives you plenty of resources to work with. You can take existing code, customize it for your own project, improve your work and save a lot of time in the process. On the other side, if you're a developer who wants to support others, you can also upload your own code or projects to Github.com so other developers can use and build on them.

Cons

One thing to stay careful about is that if you copy code from Github.com into your project without checking it properly, coding errors or unsafe code can create security risks and make websites software or applications easier to hack later on. Even though the platform itself is trusted, it's still important to review everything thoroughly before using it in your project so you can avoid problems or damage in the future.

An excellent software

Pros

Using it every day as a developer has been a real pleasure. Over the years it has become even more compelling thanks to features like Actions for CI, Codespaces for editing code right in the browser and most recently Github Copilot with context-aware code completions. I'm a huge fan of it and how much it does to make a developer's day-to-day work easier.

Cons

I don't see many downsides to this tool. Compared with other source code hosting platforms, it still feels like the best place to host code and manage projects.

reliable teamwork with version control

Pros

It is mainly used by software developers for version control and source code management. It offers both GUI and CLI options which makes it flexible depending on how someone prefers to work. The features are especially useful when a team is collaborating at the same time on the same codebase.

Cons

The part I liked least about the software is that the documentation feels a bit unfriendly and could be easier to follow.

Easy to work with

Pros

Git Center gives me plenty of ways to manage my code. I can work with Git through the command line but I also have the option to use the Github desktop app, the plugin for my IDE of choice, Atom or the plugin my teammates use in VS Code, along with several other apps. The pull request merge workflow is also excellent because it makes code review and discussion really effective.

Cons

Code reviews usually are not done on mobile or tablet devices but there are times when it happens and you just need to approve or request changes. In those moments, those smaller interactions could definitely be improved.
