Excellent tool

Pros

This tool does a really good job of helping track development progress and share it with teammates working on the same project. Having outside users leave comments on our projects has been extremely helpful too since their feedback gives us ideas on how to make the project better. It supports version control across any platform, IDE and programming language so for developers it feels like something you simply need to have. There's both a command-line option and a clean interface which makes the workflow more manageable. GitHub Desktop is also very quick to set up and connects with projects without much hassle.

Cons

Rolling back changes can sometimes be tricky especially when you're not very familiar with the platform. The commands feel unusual and don't really match standard Unix commands so it's hard to get comfortable with it without some proper training first. I also wish GitHub's web interface offered more flexibility and better ways to categorize projects since everything is grouped as repositories under one broad structure which can make navigation and differentiation harder. Branched or nested repositories would also be a feature I'd love to see.

accurate answers for code reviews

Pros

Accurate, reliable answers are the biggest reason I keep coming back to this every day. It's really useful for reviewing my code and I also enjoy using it together with my co-developers when we're working through things as a team.

Cons

A few parts of the interface feel a bit rushed and some screens are not fully responsive in mobile view so they don't display as accurately as they should.

Made collaboration so easy

Pros

Using the platform feels very adaptive. I can move around it without trouble, review, edit and download project source code, customize it to fit specific needs and also contribute improvements to other projects. It's useful that I can save everything to my account or work with Git commands like clone, add, commit and push. Being able to check projects and collaborate directly inside the software development platform makes the whole process much more practical.

Cons

It has been very good overall. I only wish the platform were available in Portuguese as well. Aside from that, the subscription price for companies is very good. I use it regularly whenever I'm assigned to a development project.

perfect for us

Pros

Sharing code with others for testing and debugging works really well and being able to create different branches is a big plus.

Cons

At times it can get a bit confusing so a more user-friendly interface would make it better.

free, transparent and widely adopted

Pros

One of the biggest advantages of GitHub is that it's free and open source. It's also used by just about everyone and it's probably the strongest platform out there for making code reproducible and accessible to a broad audience. Keeping code documented on it also adds accountability and transparency which are essential for producing high-quality work.

Cons

This tool does take a little time to learn at first and the interface isn't always the clearest to read.

impressive version control and teamwork

Pros

Version control is one of the strongest parts of this software. It's simple to work with, supports strong collaboration across teams and the integrations are really helpful as part of the overall workflow.

Cons

Somethings could still be better. There's no support for mobile devices, it takes some working knowledge before you can use it comfortably and the interface feels complex and could be more adaptive.

an amazing choice

Pros

The best parts is the Student Developer Pack which includes free access to services like Canva and other useful products.

Cons

A downside is that a lot of the benefits are geared toward Apple users. For instance, the app development tools are only available on iOS.

great for us

Pros

I appreciate how well it supports project coordination among collaborators, helps with team management and also makes it possible to analyze vulnerabilities in the code.

Cons

Based on how the software is set up some online features and repositories are only accessible through a paid SaaS portal.

reliable uptime every time

Pros

Something I really appreciate is that it is consistently available,it basically never goes down and that's probably my favorite part of using it.

Cons

Starting a new project which we end up doing at least once a month, still feels pretty outdated. Some of that is just how Git works rather than GitHub itself but the interface still seems like it could be improved.

Impressive control

Pros

The standout parts of this software for me are the collaboration tools, version control and the overall security. Those are the features I appreciate most and the ones that make the software really useful day to day.

Cons

One frustrating part is that importing and exporting data sometimes throws errors and there are times when bugs are not handled properly. That has been the worst part of using this software.

made workflow simple

Pros

Configuration management is simple and the pull request-based code review integrations work really well. The plugin support adds a lot of flexibility and the documentation features are also very useful.

Cons

At times, plugin integrations can be slow and take quite a while to return results especially with things like static code scanning.

top-tier code collaboration

Pros

It set the standard for code management and version control and its support for branches along with other native development workflows has completely changed how teams handle codebases. It remains one of the strongest platforms for managing and building production-grade applications. Also, its cloud-based offering provides a secure way to store code and makes access possible from anywhere in the world for authorized users, backed by highly available infrastructure. It can also be used locally or through on-premise setups which adds even more flexibility.

Cons

This is a lightweight platform that's simple to use and we haven't run into any issues with performance or missing functionality. Because of that, I honestly don't have any disadvantages or complaints to point out for this tool.

helpful code examples on github

Pros

Whenever I need to write code for my homework, this tool is really useful because I can find sample code there and it helps me a lot.

Cons

One thing that could be better is the organization of the platform. If everything were categorized more clearly, it would be much easier to find exactly what we're searching for.

excellent merge tools and ui

Pros

The merge conflict handling works really well and the overall UI feels very polished. Git Bash is also an excellent utility for uploading and downloading the codebase.

Cons

There isn't much that needs improvement but it would be nice to borrow a few features from Bitbucket, such as a tree-style view for historical uploads, created branches, branch merges and similar activity.

developer-friendly integrations

Pros

Interface is very user-friendly so even beginners can start using it without needing much training. It also works well with development IDEs like Eclipse and JetBrains tools which makes day-to-day work more convenient. The Jira integration is another big plus and it's simple to track code changes and see exactly when they were made.

Cons

Handling merge conflicts through the GitHub UI can be frustrating. It's also not free for private repositories so for smaller personal projects I usually turn to other Git services instead.

reliable team source control

Pros

It does a strong job of organizing development work across the team. The software includes everything needed for source control, such as branching, tagging, version comparison and plenty of other useful features.

Cons

Oftentimes, version merge reports as successful when it really isn't. I've also noticed a few glitches with branch comparison.

Pros

Whenever something comes up during the process, the support team is there and does a good job resolving it. It's also beneficial for our students and even the free version sets a strong example of what the platform can offer.

Cons

I haven't run into any issues while using it.
