excellent branching and code reviews

Pros

A top choice !!and the most widely used platform for software development and source code management. It comes with plenty of strong features especially the ability to create separate branches for a codebase very quickly. You can also open pull requests and assign reviewers to your code which is really helpful for keeping everything organized, improving code cleanliness and maintaining overall code quality.

Cons

I'm not a fan of GitHub's 100MB file upload limit. That said it's usually not a major problem. If you need to upload bigger files, the Git LFS extension can be used as a workaround.

reliable backup

Pros

Being able to push and pull on it means I can reach my code from anywhere even when I do not have my computer with me. It also works as a strong backup option. Also, it helps a lot with debugging and makes deploying a website much more convenient.

Cons

A downside is that it is not very beginner-friendly especially when it comes to using the CLI.

Worked well for us

Pros

Version control and issue tracking have completely transformed the way we work as developers and for the better by a long shot. At this point, the success of our work depends heavily on GitHub and we have no plans to move to another tool anytime soon.

Cons

What could be better is the adaptiveness. The interface does feel a bit dated compared to newer tools even though it's worth remembering that many of those tools were originally inspired by it.

super helpful for daily work

Pros

It's very simple to use and has been really helpful in my day-to-day work.

Cons

A graphical interface isn't built in so you need third-party plugins to get that functionality.

helpful for team projects

Pros

Working on projects with a team feels much more manageable with this software. It makes it simple to present the project you created for the company and it has been a big help for me overall.

Cons

At times, a few features run into technical problems. There are moments when certain buttons won't click properly or errors pop up because of unexpected bugs.

secure code backup and versioning

Pros

Keeping source code organized and protected is one of the best things about GitHub. It does a really good job with version control so tracking and monitoring changes is simple to manage. Code backup is also a very important feature and private repositories add another layer of security for storing dumps safely. Also, having a free trial available is definitely a plus.

Cons

One thing that feels inconvenient is deleting a folder in it. It's much harder than deleting a file and that process should really be made more simple.

flexible repo handling

Pros

Merging code and pulling changes whenever needed works really well. I can make edits either through the terminal or straight from the GUI which is a big plus. There are tons of features and options available to explore although most of my work is centered around repositories.

Cons

There really aren't any major downsides in it but the structure could be improved. Once you're dealing with a lot of repositories and forked repositories, it can sometimes become a bit confusing to navigate and understand.

useful and simple tool

Pros

This program is pretty simple overall and it's both interesting and useful. It's fairly understandable once you spend a little time with it and it can definitely come in handy when you need it.

Cons

One downside is that some of the codes can be a little difficult to figure out especially if you're new to that kind of thing.

well-organized workflow and clean ui

Pros

The way the code is structured is handled really well and there are plenty of different implementation options to work with. It also keeps the workflow nicely organized since the interface is very simple to navigate.

Cons

Security is still a bit of a concern. Since it's a smaller company, there's always some ongoing worry about potential breaches and it doesn't offer much on the security side which means we have to rely on other tools for that.

Pros

Keeping track of bugs was a breeze with this and it also gave me a clear view of what everyone on the team was working on.

Cons

I honestly don't see any real downsides though people who are new to GitHub Desktop might need a little time to get comfortable with it.

Built by developers with developers in mind, this tool packs in tons of quality-of-life features, with even more available to automate tasks or make things simpler. It connects with pretty much anything you'd need in the software development ecosystem. Whether it's a small personal project or a massive enterprise setup, it handles both really well.
