Fantastic

Pros

It is an excellent platform for programming work. It makes sharing code and collaborating on coding problems really convenient. Handling multiple projects at the same time is also very manageable and the website interface feels simple to use.

Cons

It is powerful and has a simple layout but its rich feature set can make initial navigation and advanced learning challenging for new users.

Dependable tool

Pros

With more than 73 million users, Git has become a go-to platform for software development and version control on the internet. It offers strong collaboration features such as access control, task management, repository hosting and team administration. Contributing to open-source projects through it is incredibly useful and practical. It also helps a lot when putting together high-quality documentation. The platform supports storing source code projects in many programming languages while keeping track of every change made over time. If you're a developer hoping to connect with new recruits, this is one of the most reliable tools available for that as well.

Cons

This tool recommends keeping source repositories under 1 GB and it would be much better if that storage limit were increased.

Central hub

Pros

It has been really useful for tracking code changes and pushing out new versions for testing. It also does a nice job of keeping our documents organized and hosted in one place on GitHub.

Cons

At the beginning, it felt pretty overwhelming and wasn't especially user-friendly. After spending a few days with it though, using it started to feel completely natural.

essential for team code collaboration

Pros

Love that this software is something our team genuinely relies on every day. It's a core part of how we manage source code across a larger group and I can't imagine working without it. Open source also wouldn't be what it is today without Github playing such a huge role.

Cons

One area that could still use work is the code diff viewer. When it comes to reviewing larger pull requests, it's still a noticeably better experience in an IDE like WebStorm or VS Code.

Its a good tool overall

Pros

Working on projects as a team is one of the strongest parts of this software and it really helps keep collaboration organized.

Cons

A downside is that since the application runs online, updating work is not always convenient when the internet connection is unstable.

fast updates

Pros

Pushing changes is quick and simple. Also, being able to define changes clearly and manage versions so well makes it a really strong product.

Cons

Getting started with it can take time and the huge number of options especially when working from code, can make it confusing for beginners to know where to begin.

packed with integrations

Pros

Right away, the wide range of integrations stood out especially with CI/CD tools and GitHub hooks. Collaborative editing is also really useful and there are plenty of other handy features included. Also, the free tier gives access to a surprisingly large set of features which makes it even more appealing.

Cons

The CI/CD integrations are definitely available but they still don't feel as complete as GitLab's overall ecosystem. GitLab is pushing more toward an all-in-one platform where you can handle issues, repositories and CI/CD pipelines all in one place.

versatile project and git workflow

Pros

Managing projects with it is very simple and handling pull and push requests is just as simple. It's incredibly useful across all kinds of projects, no matter which programming language you're working with.

Cons

Getting started with git can be a bit challenging for someone completely new to programming but the GitHub interface does a good job of making that learning curve easier to deal with.

deployment and version control win

Pros

Version control and the simple deployment process were both really important and added a lot of value.

Cons

The Git UI could be made more user-friendly and improving that would take the experience to a whole other level.

favorite platform with constant upgrades

Pros

It has easily become my favorite source control platform and the fact that it works this well while being free makes it even better. It keeps improving with excellent updates and new features that consistently go beyond what I expect.

Cons

there's not much I dislike about it. The only thing worth mentioning is that getting started can feel a bit challenging for new programmers.

collaboration that really delivers

Pros

One of the best parts of this software is how it brings people together in a community where they can collaborate, share ideas, support one another and contribute to building something collectively.

Cons

Getting started can feel very difficult for beginners especially during a first project. It would help if the support team or future updates included a more beginner-friendly version or pathway that lets new users start from the basics and build their skills step by step. I used this software for a project while studying web programming and computer science and although it pushed me to create an application or executable program, GitHub helped me a lot in developing organizing and finishing all of my code.

fantastic for open source work

Pros

Excellent platform for open source development. It comes with a massive community, plenty of features built specifically for open source developers and it feels very adaptive to use day to day. It's also really nice that most of the core features are available for free.

Cons

When it comes to the overall feature set, GitLab still seems a bit more advanced than GitHub. Still, this one has the advantage in day-to-day usability.

fast and secure

Pros

The interface looks really good, it runs quickly without feeling dated and figuring out how to use it doesn't take much effort. It also gives me confidence from a security standpoint.

Cons

There have been times recently when the service goes down and interrupts whatever I'm working on. This has only been happening over the last few months though.

Pros

Having access to open-source projects from developers around the world is a big plus and the fact that the repository is completely free makes it even better. It's also simple to access and connect with other tools.
