Impressed with it

Pros

This is one of the most widely used source control platforms and it plays an essential role in managing source code, tracking versions and helping teams collaborate on projects effectively. It lets us create as many separate projects as needed for different clients which is very convenient. The interface is fairly user-friendly for checking code in and out and if needed, the same tasks can also be handled through Git commands in the CLI. For any project, I would definitely recommend using it to manage source code.

Cons

At times, there are performance delays when trying to check in code. Other than that, I have not run into any major problems with this product.

fantastic for version control

Pros

It has been my go-to for managing the version control of my final year project. Because my source code is stored there, I can reach it anytime and from anywhere. It also makes teamwork much better since I can invite my teammates to collaborate directly on the project. One thing that really helps is the flexibility to create a branching strategy that fits exactly what we need. After finishing the project, Github is also an excellent place to showcase it to a broader audience, where others can rate it and even contribute improvements. I also appreciate being able to explore open-source projects, review unfamiliar code and fork repositories to contribute back. Also, its integration with platforms such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks adds a lot of value.

Cons

Getting started can be a bit challenging especially for beginners trying to understand version control and source code management as a whole. It definitely took me a while to fully grasp how it works and what all of its features are meant for. That said once the learning curve is out of the way, it becomes one of the best tools a developer can have.

impressive collaboration

Pros

Working with it has been really helpful for collaborating across multiple teams and it also does a good job with version control. It offers more integrations and support than a lot of other products as well.

Cons

Up to this point, I haven't come across anything I dislike about it.

code organization is simple now

Pros

The interface does a strong job of keeping code organized, helping manage issues and bugs and it's been very reliable overall.

Cons

There's honestly not much to complain about. The only thing that might be useful is a local client with a UI similar to the web version although we've managed just fine without it.

polished and in control

Pros

Everything about it feels polished and comfortable to use. It gives you a strong sense of control, almost like being at home while still being connected to a whole world of code and tools.

Cons

One thing I'd still like is a better way to communicate directly with developers when visiting their repositories. That said privacy is clearly a priority here and I suppose that tradeoff comes at a reasonable cost.

accurate history tracking

Pros

I really appreciate how accurately it lets me view the history. That part works very well and makes it much easier to keep track of changes over time.

Cons

An issue I've noticed is that it doesn't handle binary files, such as Excel documents, very well.

Awesome version control features

Pros

Working on separate tracks and bringing them together later is really useful. The merge conflict feature helps prevent anything from getting lost during merges which gives a lot more confidence while collaborating. It's also very convenient to check any version of the project without using much storage space.

Cons

Can be difficult for beginners to get used to it. The interface also doesn't look very appealing and it takes a fair amount of practice before the overall process starts to feel natural.

Its metrics are fantastic

Pros

Everything around it feels very simple to use and understand from the site itself to the tools it offers. The metrics and graph features are especially helpful because they make it easier to spot where a merge is going wrong or where a feature may have been overwritten.

Cons

I honestly do not have any complaints about the tool. Whenever they expand features for OpenSource projects and continue the README initiative where they highlight shared OpenSource work, it just makes the platform even more impressive so I really cannot point to any downsides with it.

Keeps our code aligned

Pros

It has been really valuable for our team because it makes it much easier to track even the smallest code changes. It also helps everyone stay on top of the most up-to-date version and current state of the project.

Cons

At times, getting it set up in the environment can be difficult especially for people who are just starting to learn it.

Pros

GitHub brings software developers from all over the world into one place to work together. To me, the biggest advantage is that collaboration aspect and the strong community around it.

had a positive experience

Pros

When it comes to source code management, this tool is practically a household name. It hosts millions of open-source projects and has grown a very strong community around it. There are a lot of features in it that I really appreciate especially the ability to keep the projects I build stored there. That matters to me because without a backup, there is always the risk of losing my work. Once my projects are uploaded to GitHub, I can access them anytime, 24/7. It also lets me commit changes whenever I update my projects which makes version tracking much more manageable. Also, several people can collaborate on the same project through this setup. GitHub Enterprise is also a strong choice for teams that want extra functionality and stronger security which adds even more value to what GitHub already offers.

Cons

Interface could definitely use some refinement. At the beginning, it can feel confusing for beginners and first-time users may struggle to understand how everything works. That said once you get familiar with it, navigating and using the platform becomes much less of a problem.

collaborate from anywhere

Pros

Using this software has been a really positive experience because it's simple to navigate and doesn't take much effort to learn. It makes teamwork much more convenient since several people can contribute to the same project without needing to be in the same place or even working at the same time. It also works really well for global collaboration, allowing people from different parts of the world to work together on one project simultaneously.

Cons

Haven't come across anything to dislike about this software. Out of everything I've used, this has easily been the best option.

simple to use

Pros

Having an online place for code backup, team collaboration and version control makes it really valuable. Features such as branching, pull requests and diff checking are especially helpful in enterprise environments where code reviews and strict approval steps are required before anything gets merged into the main project.

Cons

GitHub desktop app still feels like it could offer more built-in features that are unique to it itself to make it more convincing. A lot of people I know still prefer working with Git through the command line instead.
