Dependable!

Pros

What really works well for the way I use this software is being able to write clear, polished markdown instructions that other people can follow without confusion. It's also very helpful that ownership can be transferred and items can be shared with others so easily.

Cons

On the downside, I wasn't able to get much value from the project management features.

a nuanced tool

Pros

Working in the developer environment on it has been an outstanding experience for me. Being able to share projects with people across the world and troubleshoot source code issues using helpful reference points from experienced developers has been the most valuable part of using it.

Cons

I haven't run into any real problems with it. I've enjoyed all of the resources it offers and every feature has felt clear and well-guided to me.

Great experience

Pros

GitHub has been the most powerful platform for storing and sharing a product. Working with other people on it is very convenient and the collaboration features make teamwork much better. The README is also one of its most valuable features because it helps present your product clearly to the world.

Cons

One thing that could be improved is the bio section on the profile since it would be better to have more space there.

Bit of a learning curve

Pros

Working with this software has improved collaboration across my team and made it easier for everyone to stay aligned.

Cons

It wasn't very simple to get used to it though and the tutorials didn't make the learning process as simple as it should have been.

Made work easy

Pros

Getting started with it has been really useful for me. It's simple to work with and being able to upload code to one place means all my files are stored there instead of sitting only on my computer. It also makes collaborating with other developers much better since everyone can work on projects in the same place and it's clear to see what needs updating and what has already been changed.

Cons

A downside with this tool is that learning how to use it well can be pretty challenging. It takes a lot of time, practice and patience before you really feel like you've mastered it.

awesome community support

Pros

The live community support has been fantastic and I've come across a lot of really helpful threads there.

Cons

There's not much to complain about. I'd just like to see some new features added to the platform.

fast code sharing and control

Pros

Sharing source code is quick and simple and it handles issue tracking and version control really well. The user permissions are strong too and it's helpful to have clear tracking of any modifications made.

Cons

The learning curve can feel a little steep for freshers especially since a clear and accessible learning manual isn't that easy to find.

Incredible results

Pros

Really stands out to me for the way it connects people and helps the world work together. Whether it's open-source projects or the online student activities I do for e-learning, it brings different parts of the internet together in a unique way. I end up using GitHub for small game modifications, picking up new Java techniques, staying involved in project community updates and as part of my advanced Java learning program. That variety is what I enjoy most about the software.

Cons

Something I would like to see is a more user-friendly guide that clearly explains the different ways to connect and use the platform. It also feels odd that this has a feature that seems to let students code online but for some reason that option still doesn't actually work even though it remains available and active.

active GitHub community support

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is how active the GitHub community is. Whenever you run into a problem, there always seems to be an answer or helpful guidance available.

Cons

Getting started took a bit of effort because of how large the platform is and the interface feels somewhat complicated to work with at first. After that initial learning curve though, the experience has been good.

Liked it!

Pros

Using GitHub Actions for CI/CD has been a big plus for me. I mostly rely on it to deploy my code to external hosting platforms such as Heroku, Vercel and Netlify. One thing I really appreciate is being able to track the progress of each action right from the interface and instantly see whether it passed or failed.

Cons

One improvement I'd suggest for it is the explore feature. It would be helpful if they emailed users about trending repositories they could contribute to.

tons of software options

Pros

There's a really wide range of software you can use the hacks and other tools with which was definitely one of the best parts for me.

Cons

I didnt like how all the information was packed onto a single page which made it feel pretty cramped.

collaborative progress tracking

Pros

It has been really useful for keeping track of how my development projects are progressing. I use it together with my manager and the rest of the team and it makes it simple for all of us to see where everyone is in their work. That visibility helps us give feedback, support each other and stay aligned. It's also helpful for monitoring bugs and other issues that come up along the way.

Cons

A downside is that the UX/UI isn't very friendly for people who are not part of the development world. It can feel a bit bland and overly simple at times. Even with that, a lot of us still rely on it because it doesn't really get in the way of getting the work done.

helpful project visibility

Pros

Our dev team has been on it for more than four years and it's the platform we rely on to work with them. Whenever we need a new feature added to our websites or spot a bug, that's where the conversation happens. I really appreciate being able to follow the progress of the projects I've requested and created. It shows who is assigned to each task, what has already been completed and it also lets you leave comments and stay involved throughout the process.

Cons

At first the platform felt pretty complicated to navigate. The onboarding training included a video walkthrough though and that helped me understand how to use it better and become more independent in my work.

a godsend for developers

Pros

Having this available for free feels like an absolute blessing for coding. It gives developers the chance to build and create amazing things without needing to pay anything at all.

Cons

Some parts could really use tutorials though. I haven't come across any official ones from it yet.

clean UI

Pros

The interface is clean, it's simple to work with, the roles and team permissions are well handled and it connects nicely with CI/CD tools.

Cons

One thing worth mentioning is that the cost tends to rise as your organization expands. I wouldn't call it expensive outright but it can definitely start to feel pricey as the company gets bigger.

affordable and user-friendly

Pros

It's simple to use and costs less than many other options. Just need to be a bit careful when working with the public SCM setup.

Cons

Would be better if continuous integration worked more closely with screens or forms needed for the user interface.

branch history is excellent

Pros

Every time I push to a branch, it creates a fresh copy and each push keeps its own history which makes it really helpful to review earlier versions of the code.

Cons

At times third-party GUI applications run into problems and they can be a bit difficult to manage.

reliable version control and teamwork

Pros

Version control is easily the most valuable part here. We can check in and commit code changes to it every day so there's no need to keep everything stored on a local machine. Anyone with access to the branch can pull the code and continue working on it which makes team collaboration much better. That shared access, along with the version control itself, is what makes Git so useful. The code also stays secure because people without permission to the branches cannot see it. Another big advantage is how well GitHub integrates with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitLab and Jenkins through source code management. These platforms connect to GitHub without much trouble and can run the code that is stored there.

Cons

One limitation is that it does not really provide a proper way to manage or secure test data such as user IDs and passwords inside the code. Because of that, sensitive information generally should not be checked into it.
