top-notch security

Pros

Having a Git repository that lets teams share source code across different locations and at different times is incredibly useful. It also helps the organization cut down on hardware costs and the security features are truly top notch.

Cons

A downside is that it still isn't very friendly for people who don't code.

best source control for students

Pros

I've been using it for over five years and it's been a really strong option the whole time. The free plan is a big plus especially with the many benefits it offers students. At this point, it feels like the best solution available for source control management.

Cons

It would be even better if the platform were translated into more local languages.

open-source time saver

Pros

Being open source is a big plus because there usually isn't much you need to pay for. If you do need help, the authors' contact details are often available which is really helpful. It's also a huge time-saver since a lot of the code may already be written and debugged for you. Also, you can come across tools or snippets you didn't even realize you needed.

Cons

Since it's open source, you kind of get what you pay for and sometimes that means not much. There are cases where someone uploads outdated code, never properly debugs it and then disappears from the platform. Still, there really isn't a lot bad to say overall.

Pros

Writing code and staying on top of tasks feels very smooth with this tool.

Cons

It can be a little hard to grasp at the beginning but after some time and a bit of help from the developers, it starts to make sense.

fun to explore and learn

Pros

For us it's been fun being able to experiment with the program. I'm still getting used to everything but it's been really impressive to look through and work with.

Cons

At times I get stuck on certain parts but once I look up how to do it, everything works out fine.

private repos now free

Pros

A big plus is that private repositories have been free for a few years now and that has been really valuable.

Cons

GitHub Desktop still needs some bug fixes and it would also help to add a few more features for pipes.

Made collaboration easy

Pros

Working on website projects with friends feels very secure on it and I can collaborate from anywhere without issues. It offers a lot of useful features and options which makes it a really strong platform for users.

Cons

it feels somewhat complicated at first. Most beginners will probably need some technical help or someone to guide them on how to use it properly.

top choice for code projects

Pros

Among the platforms I've used for organizing projects, this is easily one of the strongest. It gives me a dependable place to keep everything moving and GitHub Actions makes project distribution feel simple. It's also one of the best environments for working with code and committing changes efficiently.

Cons

Still doesn't support hosting server-side apps like Python, Node.js and similar technologies. Beyond that, there really aren't many major drawbacks. That said the UX and overall performance could use a bit of refinement and the full Git workflow can still feel somewhat confusing for beginners.

A complete tool

Pros

Using it has been very simple and it feels secure while still being engaging. The Learning Lab has been incredibly helpful for clearing up questions time and time again and the Open Source Guides have rescued several of my software projects.

Cons

One issue I run into quite a bit is that many topics aren't available in Spanish and most software development content is still in English. It would be a smart improvement to expand topics and solutions into other languages as well.

top-tier developer workflow

Pros

Take a look at the Git UI developers actually prefer for their own work, most of them end up using GitHub. That says a lot especially since it has clearly put major effort into the developer experience. On top of the strong feature set they already provide, the overall experience for developers is simply the best.

Cons

I'd love to see is a dedicated feature for onboarding and offboarding team members. Using groups works really well as it is but having a built-in option for this would be a big help for git masters.

excellent collaboration and ci/cd

Pros

With GitHub Enterprise, our 700-person company can collaborate much more effectively while keeping our micro-frontend services under control. Its CI/CD capabilities have also made our day-to-day workflow a lot more manageable.

Cons

there's very little to complain about. It's one of the few platforms that offers fully featured version control along with CI/CD and in my view, it's the best option out there.

version control is flexibile

Pros

One of the most valuable parts of this software is being able to switch back and forth between versions. That kind of flexibility makes it much easier for users to work with the version they prefer.

Cons

I do not have anything negative to point out because everything has been excellent. The only thing that could make it even better is adding beginner-friendly video tutorials to help new users learn the software.

best place for open source

Pros

When it comes to storing open source code, it is hands down the best option in my view. I really don't have any doubts about it.

Cons

It is an excellent choice for hosting open-source code. While its competitors offer free private repos, GitHub's paid plans are justifiable for its ecosystem and industry-standard tooling

Loved using it

Pros

It works the way Git should in its purest form, while also offering a full set of tools that guide and support each step of the software engineering process.

Cons

There are only very occasional timeouts or minor stability issues and they don't really impact the overall quality of the software.
