expensive and impractical for clients

Pros

I'm happy that it sits within a single Microsoft product ecosystem keeping everything integrated under one roof

Cons

Because users are required to buy a license to gain access, track progress and provide feedback, I notice that it becomes expensive and in practice quite impractical when I need to set this up for every single client.

Great features, steep learning curve

Pros

Microsoft Project is packed with great features. Everything from project planning and resource management to powerful reporting is available. I also really appreciate how smoothly it connects with other Microsoft programs and its user-friendly interface is amazing which simplifies project tasks.

Cons

Honestly I think the program is complex and not easy to pick up. As it has a pretty steep learning curve for me. I have also seen limits in customization options and in how it integrates with non-Microsoft tools.

Familiar excel-like layout and flexible frameworks

Pros

This tool lets me manage projects using different frameworks like Scrum, Kanban or any custom approach I prefer. Also the layout feels a lot like MS Excel which makes getting up to speed pretty easy.

Cons

One thing I notice is MS Project lacks a quick way to leave short notes tied to a specific team member. I think adding that feature would speed up communication and cut down on wasted time.

Comprehensive feature set with centralized visibility

Pros

The most valuable part of Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management is its comprehensive project management feature set which allows organizations to plan, track and guide projects from start to finish with confidence. It also provides centralized visibility across enterprises which in my experience improves collaboration and keeps different projects aligned with broader strategy. This visibility supports smarter resource distribution, faster decision-making and higher project success rates, ultimately helping improve organizational productivity and meet business goals.

Cons

One of the biggest drawbacks is its complexity and steep learning curve which makes it hard for teams to fully understand and use its capabilities effectively. Another issue I have noticed is limited customization and a certain complexity that can make adapting workflows hard and it can be difficult to integrate smoothly with other systems. These limitations can disrupt what would otherwise be seamless project management and prevent projects from aligning neatly with strategic objectives.

User-friendly interface, custom dashboards

Pros

Microsoft PPM has a user-friendly interface that I appreciate. As it makes getting around the app and finding features simple even if you don't have a deep technical background. Moving between screens and using tools feels almost effortless. Plus being able to customize dashboards and reports exactly to my needs has noticeably improved my productivity and helped me make smarter, faster decisions.

Cons

When I use it for smaller projects, the tool feels like it's built for large, complex programs rather than simple jobs. So trying to scale it down or tailor it to a lightweight workflow can be frustrating and at times it seems overloaded with features I don't need. In my experience, fitting Microsoft PPM to the needs of small projects can be awkward and ends up creating unnecessary complexity.

Handles complex data, simple interface

Pros

It can handle complex data while keeping the interface simple enough that anyone familiar with the MS Office suite can pick it up and use it without much hassle.

Cons

I still think it has not gained sufficient market penetration in India.

good but resource allocation is confusing

Pros

The tool is easy to use and creating a plan was really simple. Overall it genuinely helps me organize and manage my various project workflows.

Cons

When it comes to resource allocation I am not a fan as it's not set up the way I expect and it is a bit hard to figure out which person is assigned to which task.

makes everything simple

Pros

I find it really good to set up and oversee projects, assign tasks, establish timelines and monitor progress. Allocating resources is also simple for me. Plus I can manage multiple projects and portfolios from one centralized place. It even supports team collaboration and communication and provides strong reporting and analytics. I can track project health and identify risks, plus it integrates well with other Microsoft tools and scales for larger project management needs.

Cons

The biggest downside is how overwhelming it can feel for newcomers as it requires a fair amount of learning and adjustment which takes time. Also the user interface does not feel very user friendly or visually appealing to me. Cost is also a real concern for small organizations and I've seen limits when trying to integrate certain third-party apps. Still these seem like relatively minor issues compared with the overall value Microsoft PPM provides.

Amazing for timelines, auto-generates gantt

Pros

This tool is really amazing for building project timelines and handling resource allocation across each phase. I also like that I can enter both labor and material costs per resource which lets me see the total project expenditure instantly. It even auto-generates a Gantt chart from our timeline so I can quickly put together visuals for presentations to the leadership team and clearly walk them through the schedule and resource plan.

Cons

From my experience, the pricing for both project and portfolio capabilities is noticeably higher than many other project management tools. They provide three cloud plans and three on-premises plans and I was surprised and disappointed to learn this isn't covered by an Office 365 license.

Good for planning and ranking priorities

Pros

The tool is good for planning and ranking project priorities. Also it is flexible enough to deliver the solutions I nee and I can organize plans around individual projects, reporting requirements and the team's available resources.

Cons

Well the project management features still need work to match today's market expectations. I also feel it comes across as expensive, has limited integration options and several functions seem unfinished.

helpful tracking, simple and clear

Pros

As an assistant design engineer, I pretty much liked its tracking capability for certain projects in my day to day work. Also the features are simple to use, clear and genuinely easy to pick up.

Cons

I found the learning curve for this tool to be quite steep and on top of that, the pricing feels rather high for what it offers.

Designed around teamwork and co-authoring

Pros

I am impressed by how it's designed around teamwork. As it supports co-authoring so entire project teams can collaborate in real time. I also find it simple to monitor project progress and task dependencies.

Cons

It is fairly pricey. The visualizations is lacking, the interface isn't user friendly and I struggled when I first started as a beginner.

Very systematic and easy to follow

Pros

The program is very systematic and easy to follow so even someone starting out like me can understand the core concepts and tie them directly to the work I do. So I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a better shot at advancing in the industry.

Cons

Personally I don't see many flaws and I believe it's well worth attending.

Convinced by gantt, dashboards, reporting

Pros

As per me the most convincing features for me are the Gantt charts, dashboards, shared calendars, project groups and dynamic reporting. It also makes collaborating with remote teams and managing resources much easier.

Cons

The biggest downside is how expensive it is to own and maintain.

User-friendly layout, end-to-end management

Pros

I like the user-friendly layout and the wide range of options and tools which let me handle project management end-to-end from initial planning through ongoing upkeep. I also like the smart prompts and tips that help me plan the important path.

Cons

Some parts of the software slow me down when I am trying to complete tasks. Also I find there are too many unnecessary fields attached to every task and the setup wizards and templates need more variety especially more Agile-focused options.

Flexible, well integrated with microsoft

Pros

Microsoft Project is quite flexible and well integrated with the rest of the Microsoft ecosystem which makes it easy to use, helps us develop cost estimates competitively and lets us spot variances quickly. Since our day to day workflow revolves around Microsoft tools like Microsoft 365 and Dynamics, the integration really boosts collaboration and overall productivity.

Cons

We have noticed the suite still needs to evolve to better meet the specific needs of the EPCI sector. Also it would benefit from adding a risk matrix similar to Primavera and other costing solutions so budgets can be represented more accurately.

User-friendly, plenty of tools

Pros

Using it was not a problem as the interface is user friendly and it has plenty of tools to make project planning run smoothly. I also enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely recommend it to all my teammates.

Cons

Overall my experience with the product has been very positive. So I could not find anything significant to criticize. But I did notice a few minor glitches but I think they were likely caused by network issues.
