Dream to work with and powerful

Pros

Workday is a user friendly and powerful tool. Compared to every other system I have used over the years, it's honestly been a dream to work with.

Cons

the compensation module lacks the flexibility I sometimes need for custom setups. Even though the platform provides a lot of functionality, when my organization has more complex workflows or legacy requirements, I often find it hard to configure the compensation module to handle every scenario.

Centralized place for all needs

Pros

I like that I can book vacations, view paystubs and manage medical benefits all from one centralized place.

Cons

For me the app needs a clearer way to check current vacation balances and see how much time I'll have left by year-end.

Excellent software

Pros

It feels genuinely simple because it matches a lot of the day to day workflow people already know from other cloud platforms like Google or Amazon. When new hires come in, they tend to get up to speed quickly and understand how the system works without a huge learning curve. It also helps managers stay on top of progress, feedback can be left for employees during the year through ongoing check ins and goal conversations, rather than having to wait until year end.

Cons

There are a lot of features and that can make things feel a bit repetitive at times. Some sections overlap in purpose with only small differences, for example, Talent and Career both connect to each other so it's not always clear why both are separate.

Clear understanding of team setup

Pros

Using it helps me understand my team's setup much more clearly and I find the interface very user-friendly.

Cons

It took me a while to get used to and now I notice that certain tasks require extra steps compared to how I used to complete them before.

handles new-hire process well

Pros

It is very user-friendly and capable of handling new-hire processing, plus it delivers the best overall functionality.

Cons

However I notice it doesn't automatically separate area codes from phone numbers which slows down our hiring workflow.

Multiple workflows with great interface

Pros

What I really value is that the platform offers multiple workflows that link to other systems, along with a built-in approval process and company-wide automation. I also enjoy how the interface presents different modules as tiles so I can quickly glance at each area. Plus I find the various search tools helpful and can effortlessly locate our employees in the system's database.

Cons

Because of those workflow integrations, I am noticing the system can be pretty inflexible when it comes to making edits or sweeping changes across modules. Many items feel siloed and there are so many separate tabs for tasks that navigating becomes confusing. On top of that, I struggle to extract or build tailored reports which makes reporting a real pain.

This one is the most user-friendly application I have ever used. As navigating everything is incredibly easy for both staff and managers.

Cons

Cons

I do notice that its features are fairly basic yet it still covers the essential needs that most companies typically require.

Takes too much of my time

Pros

It pings me every single day of the week to complete tasks, even though I have already marked myself as off work or on vacation in the system and all my details reflect that.

Cons

Now I am stuck putting in several extra hours every single week to handle HR-related tasks that should be their responsibility, instead of HR acting as a support arm of the organization. It ends up adding more work, paperwork and obstacles that slow me down from doing my actual job.

Good dashboard

Pros

Overall, it feels pretty adaptive and the dashboard makes it simple to locate what you're looking for. For example, the recruiting dashboard tile takes you directly to all of your open and assigned requisitions. Once you're in there, the navigation works well based on how your organization has configured the options.. you can quickly get to personal details, performance reviews, time off and even start creating new requisitions without hunting around.

Cons

Downside is that it takes way too many clicks and the reporting tools feel both limited and unnecessarily complicated. The workflow itself is also overly complex, with too many steps for what should be simple actions, for instance, creating a new requisition or transferring a colleague to another manager can turn into a confusing process for someone who just wants to get things done.

Cloud platform allows graphical analysis

Pros

one of the major benefits of Workday HCM is how effortlessly it ties into the primary Workday platform. Because it runs in the cloud, it brings consistency and is reliably available. Workday handles routine operations, while Workday HCM empowers HR to perform visual, graphical analyses over time and makes it simple to slice and dice data for deeper insights.

Cons

I like how easy the interface is to use but sometimes it feels too simple and does not have the depth I need for complex data. When I try to do deeper analysis as a power user some features are not as easy as I'd like. I am not asking for a redesign but I'd just like better documentation, a stronger knowledge base and smarter search that works with natural language. If a search does not find anything, it would be great to post questions directly to a community forum or the development team. I know some of that may already exist but it's important to keep improving. Also please include real users in testing as getting feedback from people like us would make updates much more practical.

Easy employee lookups for demographics

Pros

For me Workday makes it simple to look up employees and see their work alignments which helps when I am creating targeted distro lists and demographic breakdowns.

Cons

I wish Workday made it simpler for employees to dive into particular management chains and to export that data more easily.

Overwhelming at first becomes easy

Pros

Workday is one of the best HR systems out there. Learning it has opened up many job opportunities for me. At first, it felt overwhelming but after one training course and about a month of practice, it became surprisingly easy to use. It is also essential because it supports other key parts of Workday, like security and business processes.

Cons

From my experience it is definitely a pricey solution that tends to be adopted only by larger organizations. I rarely see small or medium-sized businesses using it which means if I leave a job at a company that uses Workday and want to move to something similar, I generally have to look for another large employer. The training for Workday can be costly too, plus it's usually delivered as group classes rather than one on one coaching. While the support is technically competent, in my case issues sometimes take a while to be resolved and they don't offer live chat help. The part I struggle with most is Workday Learning that's been the biggest problem area for my company.

Basic tracking saves scheduling time

Pros

One of the features I find most helpful is the tracking as it's pretty basic. Also I am impressed at how user-friendly the interface is and being able to compare my working hours with those of coworkers has saved me a surprising amount of time. Overall the program has made scheduling my work far easier than jotting everything into my calendar.

Cons

At first it can feel overwhelming trying to figure out all of the features. There are so many different parts to the program that I needed a bit more time to learn how to use some of them and that learning curve made using it take longer for me than I expected.

Easy routine tasks with reviews

Pros

Using Workday has made it incredibly easy for everyone at our company to handle routine admin stuff like requesting time off, entering goals and career development items and browsing internal job openings. What I really appreciate is the layout they use for performance and development reviews. While many dread those quarterly check-ins, I have found it makes it quick and simple for our group to add and track their goals.

Cons

The migration from our legacy system over to Workday stretched out over several months and had to be rolled out in phases. I get that everyone needs time to adjust but it was frustrating because those of us who eagerly wanted to use the new platform early on couldn't access some features that hadn't been migrated yet which limited what we could actually do.

Good for goals hierarchy details

Pros

This tool is pretty good for checking our team's goals and overall performance. It also stores the hierarchy details that I need to make sense of reporting lines which is handy in large companies.

Cons

For me there's really nothing about this app that I dislike. It's simple to navigate and I can quickly send messages and notifications to colleagues without any fuss.
