“cloud accounting that saves time”
Pros
During my internship, I was moved through different challenge-based tasks at the company and for a period I supported the accounting and finance team. That is when I saw Xero being used and a few strengths became very clear right away. First, having the accounting tools in the cloud made our financial work much simpler inside the company. Another feature that really stood out was the automatic reconciliation since it cut down a lot of the time and effort the team would normally spend on those tasks. On top of that the real-time collaboration worked very well for staying efficient with both the internal accounting staff and the external advisors we worked with.
Cons
Even though I was not the person mainly responsible for running the system, the more experienced coworkers on the team mentioned a couple of frustrations with it. The biggest one was the limited customization available in some financial reports which at first made it harder to adjust the reports to the company's specific requirements. I also heard about occasional bank account synchronization issues and those sometimes caused discrepancies that needed extra follow-up and attention to sort out.

“simple setup and clear branch tracking”
Pros
It is easy to use and it didn't take long to learn. Being able to assign nominal codes for each depot has been really useful especially when setting up a new branch and checking performance across locations.
Cons
One frustrating part is that once invoices have been created, they're very hard to cancel or amend if something needs correcting.

“powerful reporting insights”
Pros
One of the best parts of Xero is how much it offers for reporting and financial analysis. There's a strong variety of report types and the financial reports can be customized to fit different business needs. It's especially useful for pulling detailed insights from profit and loss statements, cash flow reports and balance sheets which makes it much easier to understand the overall financial condition of a business.
Cons
A downside is that third party integrations can feel a bit limited depending on the tools you use. Although it does connect with a range of external apps some niche platforms or industry-specific software still don't have direct integration support. In those cases, you may have to rely on manual data entry, data transfers or workarounds using other solutions.

“clean dashboard and handy integrations”
Pros
Xero felt easy to use thanks to its clear layout and user friendly design. Moving between different accounting features was simple and did not take much effort to learn. The dashboard gave a clear snapshot of finances and pulling up key details like invoices, expenses and bank transactions was quick. I also liked the wide range of integrations with other business tools which helped keep data flowing smoothly and supported more automation. The mobile apps also made it easy to stay on top of finances while away from the desk. Overall, it delivered an easy to use experience that made daily accounting much more manageable.
Cons
One thing that felt limiting was the lack of flexibility in some reports and templates. While it includes the standard financial reports and template options, adjusting them for more specific business needs or adding extra data fields often takes technical know-how or help from a professional. It would be much more useful for businesses with unique reporting needs if there were more options to customize reports and templates to match individual preferences.

“Provide remote access”
Pros
Xero fit into our business processes and daily workflow very well. The standard reports are genuinely helpful and creating custom reports or doing deeper analysis is fairly easy. The cloud-based setup is also a big plus as it lets us access everything remotely from almost anywhere.
Cons
There really aren't many downsides overall but a wider range of integrations with transitional apps would make it even better. It would be useful to connect with apps that track mileage, handle POS activity like sales, credits and refunds and pull invoices automatically from regular suppliers or vendors such as utility providers.

“time-saving billing and invoicing”
Pros
Using Xero has helped me cut down a lot of time and effort by removing manual accounting work especially with recurring billing and invoicing handled automatically.
Cons
The mobile app on my iOS 14 device doesn't include all the features that are available in the cloud version. Another downside is that the software doesn't offer offline access which I don't like.

“user friendly fit for small business”
Pros
Being an off the shelf solution, it was quick to get up and running. It's very user friendly and includes pretty much everything needed to manage a small business.
Cons
A few features feel a bit too basic and could use more depth. As the company expands, the limited functionality becomes more noticeable and less suitable for a larger business.

“handy time tracking for projects”
Pros
Recording time entries is really useful and it makes it simple to see exactly how many hours were spent on each project so those hours can be billed properly.
Cons
One annoying part is that when logging in to enter time, it doesn't open directly to the current week. Instead it seems to land on a random date such as mine keeps showing December 21.

“excellent integrations for planning”
Pros
One of Xero's biggest strengths is how well it connects with a wide range of third-party apps. I use it alongside Fathom for client forecasting and forward planning and that integration has been a real advantage.
Cons
The initial setup seems a bit complex and confusing and it could definitely be made more user friendly. The payroll feature for handling advance leave also isn't very easy.
