“feature packed accounting powerhouse”
Pros
Running a small business with Xero has been a really positive experience because it covers just about everything needed to manage finances in one place. The interface is clear and user friendly so it doesn't take much effort to understand how things work. Another big plus is how well it connects with other accounting programs and it keeps getting updated with new features and improvements which makes it feel like the product is always moving forward.
Cons
The biggest downside is the price since it can feel expensive compared with other accounting software options. Support has also been hit or miss and there have been times when it wasn't as helpful as expected. On top of that I have run into a few glitches that ended up causing issues when I was trying to complete tasks.

“Simple accounting tool with live insights”
Pros
Using Xero has been a real plus thanks to its user friendly interface and the way it integrates with a wide range of third-party apps. I also really value the real-time updates on my company's finances and cash flow because they make it much simpler to make informed decisions when needed.
Cons
Even though it's generally user friendly, there is still a fairly steep learning curve for people who are just getting started with accounting.

“misleading setup and weak support”
Pros
The sales and marketing pitch gave us the wrong impression which has really damaged our trust. We need a provider that offers dependable support and systems that actually feel competent.
Cons
They failed to disclose important facts upfront. For example, it does not work with Handelsbanken or Metro Bank, there is very little support available and there is no proper option for second-party authorisation, even through the verification app.

“clean bank feeds and collaboration”
Pros
After using QuickBooks which offered very limited cloud functionality, moving to Xero felt like a big upgrade. Our remote team can work together much more easily thanks to the clean design and simple layout. Reconciling transactions and syncing bank feeds is really simple and the rules feature is especially helpful because it lets me assign the right chart of accounts for regular transactions automatically. The interface is very business-focused without being complicated and that simplicity gives it a really appealing place in the market. From a business owner's perspective, it actually makes accounting feel pretty enjoyable.
Cons
The projects module still has a few weak spots. Having to rely on tracking categories there feels like a necessary workaround rather than a proper solution. It would also be much better if the projects section connected with other apps like Expensify and having multiple rate cards available in projects would make that area a lot more useful.

“User friendly dashboard is my fav”
Pros
Xero Blue keeps getting better, with new integrations being added all the time like the recently announced Karbon contact sync. The dashboard is very user friendly and gives a current snapshot of the business as soon as you log in. Report creation is especially valuable and the newer reporting update brings a more modern interface along with useful features like budgets for P&L statements. The range of integrations is also a big plus and continues to grow.
Cons
Some included features like HubDoc look like they have been left behind and have not seen meaningful updates in years. Compared with competitors such as DEXT, it falls short on both functionality and usability. The invoicing side is also quite basic, with no direct debit payment option, no engagement letter support and no built-in document management which means separate tools like SuiteFiles are still needed. There is also no direct document management integration in the way Karbon offers. Its connection with Xero Green (XPM) is fairly limited and XPM itself feels overdue for a major overhaul to stay competitive. On top of that the pricing is on the premium side when compared with alternatives like Software Assistant.

“powerful invoicing and bank feeds”
Pros
A few of the most valuable features in Xero are online invoicing, bank reconciliation, automatic bank feeds and inventory management. It's also very user friendly and simple to work with.
Cons
There are still a few areas where this tool could do better especially the user interface, customer support, integration with third-party apps and the functionality of the mobile app.

“Pretty confusing interface”
Pros
Because it's such a widely used platform, it integrates with a huge range of other tools. It gives us a decent basic overview of our business and is fairly affordable so if you're only just getting started, it may be all you need. It also covers plenty of core features, including bank reconciliations, expense tracking, reporting and invoicing.
Cons
At the same time there seems to be very little effort to actually improve the product or make it more user friendly. It looks like something that was built 15 years ago and barely updated since. Suggestions for product improvements don't seem to lead anywhere which really reflects that mindset. Overall it is very confusing and offers almost no customization.

“clean features and helpful integrations”
Pros
Running my business with Xero felt clean and easy from the start. It covers many features for most needs but keeps things simple enough for anyone to use from small business owners and beyond. The integrations are especially useful especially open banking and the option to give accountants access. That makes managing finances much easier and helps avoid those time-consuming mistakes at the end of the tax year.
Cons
After using it for many years there is very little about the system that I dislike. Sole traders might feel limited by the 20 invoice per month cap but that only applies to the Starter plan. The pricing on the higher tiers is reasonable enough to justify upgrading especially since that removes the invoice limit. Every now and then, bank feed issues can happen which may leave you wondering why your balances do not match. It is also not immediately obvious when the problem is with the feed from your specific bank although you can confirm it by clicking through to the Why is this different page. In my view that is really the only downside and even then it is fairly minor.

“powerful accounting automation”
Pros
One thing that really helps with Xero is how it automates a lot of the manual finance and accounting work, from the general ledger to accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Cons
The only minor downside is that it doesn't offer offline functionality and that's something the vendor should improve.

“powerful features and integrations”
Pros
After a few months of using Xero to track all the money coming in and going out of my freelance business, I can say it offers one of the broadest feature sets I have seen. Compared with other platforms, it covers a wide range of business needs regardless of company size. The bank and online banking integrations are excellent and I also really appreciate the flexible customization for invoices, quotes, automated emails and similar tasks.
Cons
That said it doesn't seem very user friendly for freelancers or small businesses. It can be unnecessarily complex for someone like me who doesn't have accountants or staff helping manage everything. In that area, FreeAgent does a much better job of keeping things simple for solo business owners. If it added a choice between a basic mode and an expert mode, it would be an outstanding platform.

“well-priced and user friendly”
Pros
It's very easy to use and priced well which makes it a really good fit for smaller businesses that don't have a dedicated accounting or finance team or only have limited support in that area.
Cons
A few of the less important features still feel a bit rough and can give confusing results especially things like search and reconciliation. Also it isn't the best choice for more complex organizations and pulling together statements across multiple companies or holdings doesn't work very well.

“Worked the best for our business”
Pros
Switching to Xero has completely changed how I handle my business finances. It's a cloud-based accounting platform that is very user friendly and easy to use so tracking income and expenses, reconciling accounts and pulling financial reports takes much less effort. That said it does have a couple of drawbacks. The cost can feel a bit high for small businesses especially when you're just getting started and there are still some features you might find in competing accounting tools that Xero doesn't include, like inventory management.
Cons
Overall my time using it has been very positive. It's dependable, user friendly and has made it much easier to stay on top of my finances while keeping the business running well. Even though it's more expensive than some alternatives, the product quality and customer support make it feel worth the price.

Pros
Even the entry-level plan offers a strong amount of customization which really helps when putting together an accurate picture of financial results and overall business performance.

“cloud collaboration that delivers”
Pros
Working with others is much more convenient in Xero because multiple users can collaborate on the same project. Since it's cloud-based, I can access it from different locations without any hassle. It also connects well with a wide range of third-party apps and services which makes it even more useful.
Cons
It's not the best fit for businesses that handle more complex accounting processes, mainly because the feature set feels somewhat limited for advanced needs.

Pros
Keeping accounts in this software is very user friendly and it makes understanding business finances much simpler. Each section also comes with its own tutorial which is really helpful when learning how to use the different features.
