“handy ledger and integrations”
Pros
Using it for the accounting ledger has been very easy and it integrates well with the other software our team already uses.
Cons
That said it doesn't perform as well as our other software when it comes to broader accounting tasks and payroll.

“Powerful cash coding standout”
Pros
Compared with MYOB Account Right, Xero clearly seems like the stronger option in this space. I used MYOB for another client and while it does have a few benefits, it doesn't come across as nearly as good when it comes to functionality. Xero especially stands out in bank reconciliation and the cash coding feature makes a big difference.
Cons
The biggest downside is the cost since it is fairly expensive. It also becomes tricky to manage when you have multiple businesses with different ABNs under one holding company because they cannot be integrated together. You need to create a separate file for each company which means you miss out on having one complete, holistic view of the overall business.

“quick to pick up”
Pros
Even though I only use a small part of what Xero offers, getting started was very easy and I needed very little help. It seems like an accounting tool that almost anyone can figure out without much instruction.
Cons
One part I couldn't get to work the way I needed was the budgeting feature.

“powerful reports and reconciliation”
Pros
Xero is very user friendly, affordable and still packed with powerful features. The reconciliation tools are excellent and there's a huge range of reports available which I really value.
Cons
The inventory side really needs stronger stock management. It doesn't handle multi-depot setups or different stock locations and that was a major downside for us.

“live data and mobile invoicing”
Pros
Using this has been really easy. Having access to live financial data is a big plus, bank reconciliation is much simpler with the bank feeds and being able to create invoices while on the go is incredibly convenient.
Cons
Only thing I'd really want is telephone support instead of just online support. Aside from that, I don't have any complaints about it.

“Easy access, better layout needed”
Pros
Xero was simple enough and felt very easy to use. Plus I could access whatever I needed without much trouble.
Cons
There wasn't really anything specific I disliked although the layout could maybe be improved a bit.

“fantastic third-party integrations”
Pros
One of the best parts is how well it connects with third-party platforms. It integrates nicely with things like booking engines, payment gateways, timesheets and more.
Cons
One thing I still cannot figure out is how to adjust the invoice margin layout. The company details I set to appear in the top right corner of the invoice always end up looking messy and I haven't been able to find any guidance on how to fix the margins to make it look neat and tidy.

“flexible reports and helpful support”
Pros
Running Ops and Finance for a startup without an accounting background, I was still able to configure Xero around how our business works and keep it updated well enough to produce useful monthly reports and send customer invoices. Whenever I needed to figure something new out, the knowledge base and helpdesk were genuinely very helpful.
Cons
The expenses side was confusing when I tried to use it.

“secure and simple payroll”
Pros
This is very easy to use. I never ran into any issues and everything could be done with just a few mouse clicks. Overall was simple enough that I didn't need any training to figure it out.
Cons
I honestly didn't have anything to complain about. It felt secure and easy to use for everything from checking my pay to booking time off for leave.

“ideal fit for small teams”
Pros
Even without an accounting background, Xero is simple and easy to work with. The day to day tasks follow clear processes like paying suppliers and receiving incoming money which makes it very practical. For a business of that size, it's the best option. It's a reliable way to keep track of company finances and it's software I end up using all the time.
Cons
Since it's built with small businesses in mind, there are some basic limitations, such as journal approval restrictions. Once a company's billing activity grows beyond a certain point, one instance is no longer enough and multiple instances have to be run in parallel to handle the full volume of bills.

Pros
Getting this into the business was easy and using it day to day is very hassle free. The layout is clean, simple and well organized and overall I have been really satisfied with what the product delivers.
Cons
Having used it over the past few years, I honestly haven't come across anything I'd want to change or mention as a negative.

“modern accounting that delivers”
Pros
After using other accounting platforms before, it's refreshing to have something like Xero that makes everyday invoicing, banking and reporting seem so simple. It really is like accounting software updated for how people work today.
Cons
I don't see any real downsides. It's a very simple accounting tool that keeps everything clear and uncomplicated.

“powerful invoicing and integrations”
Pros
Across both my main company and my personal consultancy work, Xero has been a reliable accounting tool to use regularly. The invoicing process is very simple and the related insights and analytics are especially useful. It also connects well with other systems we use, such as payroll software which means payroll entries are posted to the ledger automatically. The bank feeds work well too and reconciling transactions is quick to get through. On top of that there's a strong library of help articles available when needed.
Cons
Like a lot of accounting software it can still feel complex and it's not always immediately clear how to complete certain tasks. The interface could be more user friendly too because there are times when I end up clicking around to work out where something is. It doesn't remove every reason you might still need an accountant but overall it remains a very decent product.

“fantastic reporting and simple design”
Pros
Since switching to Xero in 2015 it has completely changed how I handle company accounting. It walks you through each step in a very simple manner and the design stays simple while still delivering really strong reporting. It's an excellent system overall.
Cons
The only thing I'd like to see improved is the project management side, even though that isn't really its core purpose. It would be better if delivery connected more directly with invoicing but that's something that will probably improve over time.

Pros
Being cloud-based is a huge plus with Xero. I can get to my financial information from anywhere as long as I have an internet connection which makes managing things much more convenient.
