helpful expense tracking

Pros

Every week, I use Xero to submit my expenses and it also lets me keep an eye on receivables and payments. It's been extremely useful and I no longer need to jot everything down in a diary the way I did before.

Cons

The thing I am not happy about is the starter plan only allows me to create 20 invoices especially since the pricing isn't that cheap to begin with.

pretty disappointing overall

Pros

I honestly didn't come across any real strengths with this software.

Cons

fast VAT reporting and shared access

Pros

Using Xero has been very easy. It's especially helpful that my accountant can log in and view my records whenever needed. Creating a VAT report is quick and I can submit and pay it within minutes.

Cons

The pricing feels a bit high and there's hardly any meaningful discount for running a second business aside from a small 5% reduction. On top of that the customer service is terrible.

Simple invoicing that gets paid

Pros

Getting invoices set up in Xero is pretty easy, even for someone new to it, as long as your Xero admin has already entered the right internal product details. On the customer side we haven't run into any payment problems after invoices are sent out by email.

Cons

Customer email notifications go out directly from its servers. Most of the time that's fine because their servers seem to have a good reputation and delivery is dependable but a few customers have questioned them since it isn't always obvious the invoice actually came from our company and the message can come across as a bit spammy. It would be much better if it supported full SPF/DNS integration with our company domain so outgoing emails could be properly spoofed and branded.

handy rollout

Pros

It was easy to roll out to the whole team, was easy to use and it integrates well with our accountant's system which makes collaboration much more convenient.

Cons

It does take several apps to get everything working properly and switching between being a user and an admin can be confusing because it's not always clear which app or feature I am supposed to use.

bank integration that just works

Pros

Integrating it with major banks was incredibly easy, only took a few minutes to set up and everything has worked really well since.

Cons

At times the reconciliation tool seems a little confusing because it can create duplicate lines though it's usually a quick fix by deleting the extra entry.

bank sync failure wrecked our books

Pros

At one point Xero was a fully cloud-based accounting platform. Sadly, it has declined so much that it no longer handles even the most basic tasks.

Cons

Our bank integration with it stopped working completely. It's been months with no real fix and almost no communication from them. As a result our bookkeeping is a mess and we still cannot close the year or file our taxes. We'll probably end up spending a few thousand dollars to manually fix work that this tool used to do for us automatically.

powerful accounting and finance tools

Pros

The accounting and finance features have been the biggest highlight for me. Everything I need is included and the overall feature set does a really strong job of supporting day to day financial management.

Cons

The only downside I have noticed is that customer support can sometimes take a while to respond.

Simplifies finance tracking

Pros

Using Xero has made managing my finances much more simple. I can keep track of income and expenses without any hassle and the interface is simple and user friendly enough to stay organized. The reporting tools are really useful and being able to link my bank accounts is a major advantage.

Cons

A drawback is that the pricing can feel a little high for small businesses. It also misses some of the more advanced features you'd get with higher-priced accounting software.

cloud reporting that delivers

Pros

Being cloud-based is a big plus and the live reporting is really useful. It also integrates with a wide range of banks and credit cards which makes things much more convenient.

Cons

If you don't have an accounting background, there's definitely a learning curve but that's pretty normal with accounting software. It takes a little time to get comfortable with how everything works though once you do, the automated reports are a real benefit.

smart AI and excellent support

Pros

Right away the AI features feel genuinely useful in day to day work because the software adapts the experience to each user instead of feeling generic. Xero's support is also outstanding whenever an issue comes up, with helpful guidance that is relevant to the exact situation. Customer records are laid out clearly and are simple to review and the analytics tools make the information much more organized, manageable and easier to understand.

Cons

Getting used to the interface at the beginning is not very easy although it does become more manageable over time. It's also a bit confusing that any time entry has to be connected to a project first which makes logging time outside of that setup less easy.

reliable and user friendly design

Pros

Its interface is modern, well thought out and genuinely user friendly. We tried a few other accounting tools before this and they were fairly buggy but Xero has felt much more stable and dependable. It comes across as powerful and reliable and it's especially helpful for people who don't have formal accounting training since it guides you through tasks that would otherwise be pretty confusing.

Cons

If I had to point to one limitation, it would be the lack of a little more flexibility to customize certain reports exactly the way a user might want.

Pros

reliable accounting with bank sync

Pros

After more than two years of using Xero, it's been a very user friendly accounting tool that handles everything really well. My bookkeepers are able to integrate our bank statements without any hassle which keeps our accounting accurate and precise.

Cons

I honestly don't have any complaints at this point. I am very happy with the software as it is and think it works excellently in its current form.
